all.. i'm happy to report that i managed to track down the root cause
of the power problem in my newly rebuilt engine.... after ticking off
the pain points, one by one, i came to the finding that my
distributor was shot. and i didn't even know it.
seems it has several problems: (1) the rotor arm tube was gummed up
and sticking to the dizzyshaft so it would not smoothly rotate thru
its travel arc. and (2) one of the advance weight springs was broken
and the other was stretched. so proper advance was nill. so what i
thought was 5 deg BTDC at idle was really 10 or 15 deg inside the
dizzy. and then i'd get some advance at about 1500 revs and then
that's all she had to give.
so now i'm off to rebuild it from some spares, or maybe i'll just get
AH Spares to send me a new one over from the UK. feels good to know
at least what the issue was.
i'd also upload some pixs of my little beauty, but the picture system
doesn't seem to be working.
