Geez, I don't know how much you guys want to be bored about more radiator discussions, but I'll add .02. Bottom line will probably be stuff you pretty much already knew or could make an educated guess at. So hitting Next now is ok. Basically, a car radiator is a cross-flow liquid-to-air heat exchanger. The amount of waste engine heat Q, in (BTU, calories, whatever) it can dump into the air, in extremely simplified form, is Q = U x A x delta T. "Delta T", extremely simplified, is an average temperature difference between your coolant and the air.... MORE
Brad Pace asks, "What about Bob"?? (This List replies, "Who cares"!!:) Hilarious, man!! Good one! But, actually, already had mine for tonight along with great dinner with friends and fireworks to boot. Now......peace, quiet, air conditioning and cat curled up by my side (as God intended and as it should be!) Tomorrow: wash '67 Spridget top (with frame) and carb in preparation for shipping to fellow listers and thorough cleaning of favourite mode of vehicular surface transport (Mother's California Gold Clay Bar!!) cooled by many beers with good buddies followed by dinner and drinks at local favourite establishment. Life... MORE
Sure enough as Gary said, The Jeep fan fits almost perfectly in the space in the bonnet in front of the radiator. With some minor Mcguiver work I'll have it installed with no problems. I'm going to drill some big air holes in the shroud to aid the air movement at speed to the radiator. Cool! Chris A58BugEyE AN5L 4431 "a58bugeye" 4241... MORE
John, I really did not know it until I added the brakes back in '74. Before I did the change over, no problems. Afterwards, the same tires started rubbing on the bonnet. Only happened when I hit a good bump, but was a problem. Upgrading to ~350# springs and chucking the 271# stockers just about fixed that problem. Changing to alloy wheels and a larger front sway (roll) bar also was a positive remedy. Take care-Steve "an5l9717" 4235... MORE
Greetings Healey-ists ! This is a repost of my Sprite that I have for sale. It is a 1960 and is currently yellow. It appears to originally have been tan. It has black seats. I just bought it from the second owner, who bought it in 1982 from the original owner. The car has spent almost it's entire life in the high desert of california. The only rust is a small bit on the right side pillar behind the hood and in front of the door. The engine is original and the trans was replaced with a rebuilt one... MORE
Bob, Check around, but I've heard AH Spares has the best rubber seal replacements for the outside edge of the frame. I need some myself, but haven't gotten to that point yet. Gerard "gerardchateau" 4205... MORE
HEY, GUYS (AND GALS). I NEED SOME HELP. WITH THE PAST 4 BUGEYES THAT WE BUILT (MANY YEARS AGO), WE USED STOCK WHEELS. THE ONE WE'RE BUILDING NOW WILL HAVE WHEELS WITH A 5" WIDTH. WHAT SIZE TIRES CAN I USE WITHOUT BLASTING HOLES IN THE BODY TO MAKE THEM FIT. I'M ASSIMING THE 195/70 WILL BE TOO TALL. I'M THINKING 175 OR 185/60 FOR A LOWER PROFILE. WHAT HAVE YOU FOLKS BEEN USING? THANKS - RICK J. "bugeyebum" 4198... MORE
Has anyone restored a set of side curtains and how do you do it? Mine need everything done. The frames are rough and need polishing, etc. The glass needs replaced and I don't know how to get the front pane out of the frame, crimped somewhere. If I had the glass out, I could have some new ones made out of non-fogging plexiglass. I see that rubber and felt is avilable from V.B. Bob, Portland, OR "rw97060" 4191... MORE
I chose method 2 because if it failed, I could go to method 1 where as I didn't feel that method 1 could be reversed back to method # 2. My old pin had splines on one end so it would only come out one way. After making a real nice grade 8 allen head pin, I found that the allen head blocked the other allen head bolt that would hold the body half to the body. I couldn't find a button head allen bolt so I changed to a standard grade 5 bolt. I cut the head off... MORE

I am selling a decent Bugeye Bonnet and Rear Clip for $250 and $150 each. There is a little damage/rust on the bonnet near the front turn signal. The rear clip has a few dings and rust in the usual fender areas. As usual, shipping is the purchaser's responsibility. Yep. I've done them two ways - the elegant way and the cheap way. Both work. The pin is press fit in the door half, so the wear is on the pin ends and the two ears on the body half. Method 1: Press out the pin, bore the door half oversize, press in bushings, and reassemble by pressing in a new pin. About $35 at a machine shop. Method two: press out the pin. Drill the door half and one ear of the body half 5/16". Thread the other ear of the body half 5/16-18. Reassemble by passing... MORE
I took My passenger door off so I could have cracks welded and have found that the upper hinge is worn. Spare door "hinges" also worn, (still has cracks in this one). It looks like I could punch out the old pin and replace the pin or drill the whole thing a bigger size and drive a new pin in. Has anyone done this, will it work, suggestions? Moss wants $84.70 for a new hinge. Bob, Portland, OR Update: Starts, Runs, 70 lbs oil pressure (with 5-30 oil), needs tuning a little,(rebuilt in 84 + cam & 1 1/2"... MORE

Listers and Lurkers, I never thought this day would come and definitely not so quickly. But I must sell my Bugeye. Due to financial problems that are beyond my control it must go. So I am offering it to this group first. It is a 1958 Bugeye AN5L698. It is mostly complete. The seats are shot but some of the seat frames are still there. The floor pans are rusted as is typical. There is some rust in all the typical areas. The car has sat for some 40 years. Fortunately inside a dry barn. I have the original... MORE
List, Well I'm about to start turning some wrenches in order to get a better look at my timing chain/engine knock problem. I plan to do this without pulling the engine/tranny. I just wanted to see if my plan of attacke sounded good to you guys before I start. I basically am going to pull the intake/exhaust manifold off (so I can jack up the engine without the pipe hitting the from on the underside of the car.) Then I need to move my radiator and fan out of the way. I'm then going to remove the engine mount... MORE
On my Frogeye(1958 but with later door latch levers). I have to pull them up to open the door, but I drove in someone else's Frogeye today and I had to push them down to open the door. Hi Jon! They say timing is everything....... You are one lucky guy!!!! Ajax, Ontario you say? Well I live just north of you Aurora, Ontario about 50 miles. Just yesterday I went and bought another Bug Eye Sprite...Boy is my wife all excited about that. I think its a 1958 not too sure though. I bought it for parts for my car, but I cant see myself taking another Bug Eye off the road...would feel real bad about that. I will pick it up in about 1 or 2 weeks, so give me shout through E- mail and maybe... MORE
Hi Don, Someone here was offering their Bugeye for sale just a few days ago. It is located in southern Ca. I don't know any more about it than that, but you will probably get a reply from the seller soon. I also know of a very decent MKI Midget for sale in the Watsonville area. I have inspected the car personally and can tell you more about it offline if you have any interest. As you know, this is the identical car except for the fender styling. It can be purchased for much less than a Bugeye in... MORE

Ryan- Can't give you any advice about 948's since my experience is with tuned 1275's (with the exception of one stock 1098 which is one of the smoothest Series A units I have ever driven...like "silk"!) however, both Aldon in the UK and Anglo Parts in Belgium (www.angloparts.com) have original advance curves (in rebuilt distributors) available. You might try fitting NAPA's "copy" of the Cooper "S" mechanical dizzy which goes under their part number 48-400. for normally aspirated operation. It's 15 degree (30 @ the crank) total advance will give you a little more than what you want with... MORE
Hi All I am the newest member of the bugeye owners I traveled from Racine Wi. (home) to Winnipeg Manitoba to pick up my little darlin, I took the drive in 3 days.
