Group, I just joined this group a couple of weeks ago and my doctor gave me some bad news yesterday. I can't get in the bugeye with my bum pelvis and hip I injured in my head on collision. I guess it's got to go! It's rust free and runs like a bear. I have two extra engines complete from clutch to fan. Two extra trannys and a set of racing carbs. I have to digest the news and maybe think of some way of entering the car without messing up my future hip and pelvic transplant. It may... MORE

Hello Gang! Working on a BE that has a Judson supercharger installed, using stock carb.that came with the kit,the fuel pump is a electric Purlator [4 to 7 psi.],the problem is that the gas runs out the overflow of the carb.,do we need a fuel reg. or is there something wrong with the carb. float?????? Thank You Chris [Lebanon,Pa.] "chrischrisah" 14888... MORE
...Check the needle/seat in the lid of the carb bowl and replace if necessary....I was fighting an overflow problem recently and replacing them fixed that problem... Doug in Santa Clara dpecchenino@... 14889... MORE
I just replaced my BE seats and foam kits from Victoria British. Blue on Blue Bugeye standard. Woops, just means last August. I don't know what their price is now!! The kit went on pretty well for an novice upholstery guy. the best way to get excellent gass millage is to lie about it!!!! Gas story - I drove from Corvallis, OR to LaGrande, OR a distance of 350 miles. Wanting adventure I stayed off the freeway I5/I84 and crossed the mountains over to Prineville. I filled up in Prinville and As I was leaving town I checked my... MORE
FWIW, I am running a 1275 W/HS-4's. The PO had installed #6 needles and I was getting about 15 MPG. BC convinced me to switch to NG's and I think I am getting about 35 MPG before switching to the 5 speed. The plugs don't come out heavy black carbon any more either. Bob, Troutdale, OR P.S. Hmmm...apparently, I got lucky, The PO installed a "shaft/bearing" on the accelerator rod so the pedal rests upon the moveable bearing... Cap'n Bob Smooothly accelerating Frog "Robert E. Shlafer" 14798... MORE
Larry- You didn't like the angle of the brake pedal so you just removed it? You removed the gas pedal I assume (?) and left the bare gas throttle rod.... Doug in Santa Clara dpecchenino@... 14772... MORE
Hi Jim, Look very closely at the fuel line. I had a dodge that exhibited a similar lack of power when the throttle was depressed. I looked at everything and could not figure it out. After trying to do a fast run around the neiborhood I got the car up on stands and there was a tiny wet area near the fuel line. It turned out the line was rotting from the inside out and there was a TINY pinhole that did not seep when the car was sitting, but was creating a vacuum leak or air lock when... MORE
Having a little problem with bugeye right that I can't get back to until next weekend, so I thought I would see if the lists have any suggestions beyond what I've done so far. Car was running perfectly at beginning of week. Drove it to work on Monday - ran great. Started out Tuesday morning, but turned back to house after a mile. Ran okay through neighborhood, seemed a little "off" but I just thought engine was still cold. But on highway I tried to accelerate hard, car ran up to about 2500-3000rpms, and would "stutter" - no power... MORE
Nah, those are easy. Put the Datsun 5 speed transmission in, which has the slave cylinder on the other side, low. No hole, the slave cylinder bleeder is between the frame rail and the transmission. You can't get to it from below, and above you only have the engine, exhaust, carbs, fuel lines, etc. Seeing the bleeder is hard, much less getting a wrench, scocket, pliers on it to open and close it. It's too close to the frame for a bleeder hose...... and like the A.H. slave, you end up doing it 3 times before it gets all... MORE
Tim... It's not working fine on the table but not in the car with your settings. There is something "different" between the t wo but I don't know what it is!! But......6.5 psi at the carb?? Whoa, whoa. Pump capacity and pressure at the carb are two different animals. Try less than 3psi at the carb via a pressure regulator and see if that doesn't solve the problem. Until recently, I had a similar problem. What seems to have fixed it for mine, is installing a S.U. Electric fuel pump. I am running a 1275 w/HS-4's, but once I have got it started once, It is good for a week. Before the S.U.'s, I had a generic electric fuel pump and a fuel pressure regulator. That combiniation made it very hard to start after standing a few days or more. I have 2 springs on the choke, and have adjusted the choke cable to where it is \ when full off. You are suppose to adjust the... MORE
My 60' bugeye has a 948 with a Judson Super Charger and a Holly carb. I can't get the floats to shut off the fuel, and it over flows through the vent at the top of the bowl. The fuel pressure is about 6.5 lbs. I bought it from Chicaco Carb. I brought it back to them, and watch it on their bench work just fine with my settings. Any Ideas? Tom Kashul Park Ridge, IL. Hello group, my clutch is slipping in 3rd and 4th gear when I open the throttle (too) much. I'm running a stock 948 (just overhauled last year) with HS1-SU's combined with a rebuilt ribcase box I think the springs in the clutch cover are tired as the plate was OK as I reinstalled the engine last year Q1: Can I change the clutch to plate and cover to 1275-spec ? I like that system with the diafragm springs better, also it should be able to cope better with te torque of the engine as it is designed for a... MORE
I think that you probably have the right gauge and sending unit, but you might check two possibibities. 1. Lucas electricial system, so 40+ year old electrial connections leave somethng to be desired. put some diaelectric grease in each of the plug-in connections. There is actually a little brass cleanning brush available. (I think a 22 cal brass cleanning brush will work too.) 2. I saved the best for last... I had that problem and it turned out to be the 40+ year old sending unit had been sitting, and the float was sticking. I had to drop the... MORE

Hi Daniel, you have been silent for a while now. Good to have you back. I want to avoid cutting the inner fender and footwell if at all possible, especially the footwell. I test fit the 2.5" K&N filter from my other Bugeye and it will fit BUT need to install the soft mount kits and then see if it will still fit. Now as a last resort I can get 2" filters and use a shorter stack. I made a run up to Gilroy today and talked to Pierce Manifolds and Mike volunteered to dial in the Weber's... MORE
Larry, I thought you went with the Webers for bonnet clearance? I'm still hoping to go with the EFI and ECU combination on my Swift Bugeye, hopefully just by setting the tilt on the block with the motor mounts to minimize engine height. In your opinion, do you think this is possible? How did you come up with a runner length for your DCOEs? The reason I ask is there's a carb manifold on ebay right now that I'm thinking of picking up: http://tinyurl.com/4xdu8 The runners are very short. Any comments from anyone regarding runner length choices vs carb... MORE

Okay, so I admit it. I spent way too many hours trying to get all the little springs and thingys to fit together on the right rear brake. The excuse I'm going with is that I'm following a repair guide that offers up the following for the rebuild: "reverse the steps followed in the teardown." Pithy, what? I've got to think I'm doing something in the wrong order, or missing some special tool marked with the necessary and utterly mysterious incantation of "MOWOG" cause that wasn't no walk through a sunny park. First I installed the new cylinder. Then... MORE
