I think you "might" have better luck in kitting a Moose. As I understand it, the legs and longer, holding the body higher allowing the possiability of saving the windshield, But you had better have one of the Bugeye flimisy bumpers. An X friend of mine, didn't return from his 2-3 tour in V.N., said that the worst animal to hit, especialy at 70, was a pig. It goes under the car, taking engine, transmission, and rear end with it. He totaled a new P/U. I seem to live under a bright star. I remember driving across the Idaho... MORE
Yeh, really Hamondale!! You'd have to hit the deer hard enough in the legs to send 'em "vertically ballistic" as you went under him!! Lottsa luck on this one, eh? Matter of "timing", old chap. John, we've got deer getting killed on the New England Thruway! That's Route 95 which goes through the SOUTHERN portion of towns situated on Westchester County/Connecticut's Long Island Sound shoreline. The "woods" are to the NORTH of these towns! Years ago, when I used to "rat race" my MGA with other brothers of the sport having Healey's, TR3's, SAAB 96's, Porsche's and Jags (at... MORE

FWIW - I had a pair of spacers made a couple years ago that were 1/4" thick. (That's all I needed for clearance.) I did a simple drawing in AutoCAD and e-mailed it to a shop that had a laser cutter. They uploaded the drawing file into the laser machine and cut me a pair out of aluminum (probably 2024 or 6061) for $20. The catch is, I have a Vega rearend, so my studs are 7/16" and the axle flange step is 2.42". My drawing calls for holes of 0.440 +0.005 -0.002 on a 4" bolt circle and... MORE
I see the Moss catalog, part number 159-600, is called the rubber body. Would this be the rubber gasket I think I need for the lens? If so, it looks like it would be easier to just replace the whole assembly. I would still like to stick with the clear lenses. Tim C. "Tim L. Creger" 11343... MORE
I just recieved a sale catalog from Mini Mania, and there are some wheel spacers in it on sale for $29.95. They come with extended studs. I suppose you can look on their website. The ones they have are slotted also. If the spacers fit reasonably well on the studs, it shouldn't cause a balance problem. If you could mike up the ID and the OD I might be able to make a set, but I can't make a completion date promise, as this would be a government job at work. Will '60BE "wchess2" 11339... MORE
The ones on ebay just sold, How thick do you want??? The 1/4" have several slotes, but are evenly spaced so they are still in balance. The 3/4" that I have, also have 1/4", do not have the extra holes and come/came with extended studs to fit. Bob, Troutdale, OR "Robert Webb" 11326... MORE
Hi Bob, I'm in the Allentown area. I'm restoring a 60 BE too but I found this one thru a friend. Its got a 1275 with a 286 cam and 1.5" SUs on it. Its a lot of fun. I only ever had 948 engines before and the bigger engine is really enjoyable. Phil That's true. I live in rural southeastern PA. Anything that spooks the deer, and other critters away from the road is a good thing. My new BE is loud too...but not too loud. Phil "Phil Nase" 11309... MORE
Group, yesterday I drove my bugeye for the first time in almost 5 years (my smile was as broad as the bugeye's...) The 948 engine is completely overhauled and adapted for unleaded fuel, still running in castrol 20W20 running in oil and has good oil pressure and is beautifully quiet (no tappet noises) BUT the exhaust is LOUD, very LOUD, especially when accellerating it sounds like a Harley or a prewar Bentley (I know cos I've driven one) There are absolutely no leaks in the system, every mounting is in place Exhaust system used is a new Bell stainless... Reid, I read your appeal for a person to follow Sprites. I don't think that is me but I do have this article I would submit for consideration. See attached: Cheers & Motor On!! In a correctly wired up positive earth car, current passes: 1.. from the fuse box through the front wiring loom to the gauge 2.. then from the gauge through the wiring loom to the bundle of connectors above your passenger's right knee (could be under the dash, or could be inside the engine bay) 3.. then into the rear wiring loom through to the tank unit 4.. where it earths by the screws holding the unit to the tank. There is a variable resistor in the tank unit which, for some bizarre BMC logic, works the opposite to what... MORE
You can also see a variety of shots by looking at the cars for sale on e-bay. I have a number of photos of the engine bay and other areas taken from the Sprites that are up for auction. Nelson 62 Mk 2 Sprite under reconstruction "Nelson Wittstock" 11287... MORE
I thought some of you folks would be interested. I installed a set of Green Stuff brake pads onto my wifes '73 RWA. I like these pads ! I will install them onto my Bugeye next. Lots of braking power for much less pedal effort. Not grabby. No telling how long they will last...who cares. I will not go back to cheap generic pads. This weekend is the Colorado British motoring conclave. (Arvada CO., Sat and Sun) ~ 500 British cars and Motor Bikes. I'll give the pads a good work out on Saturdays rally. What??? Very confusing. The tire sits in the wheel well. The brackets go "inside" the engine compartment "outside" (if you will) the wheel well. The screws/bolts, whatever, that "hold" the above go through the well well "walls". Wish I had a shot of my engine compartment to forward but even if I did, it's got non-stock locations. 1. My fuel gauge is not working so I want to remove and check the sender which I'm told is probably the issue. How do I go about this? I'm guessing it is in the top of the tank requiring removal of the tank. Do I need to drain the tank? Disconnect the fuel lines? My plan is to take the sender and the gauge to my local gauge repairer to view both and overhaul as necessary. 2. I am looking for a repair manual that will help me avoid pestering the list with this type of basic question.... MORE
Barrett, All I know so far is that the engine was totally rebuilt few years ago. By whom? No idea. I will find that out shortly. As far as I know, it has not been started yet. Will let you or the list know once I have a closer look at it. Phil Aurora, Ontario, Canada "Phil" 11275... MORE

Hello list/members. Need some advice or guidance on a rebuilt 1275 engine. I am going to have a look at this engine that is for sale locally in about a week or so. This is the info that I have so far: Totally rebuilt 1275 c/w cyl head and brand new carbs (1.25") It also comes with Jenspeed (sp) header (not familiar with this brand) and lightened flywheel. Set up for road use=85 The engine was all done up few years ago. It was owned by a doctor that was planning to install it in his Morris, but passed... MORE
In process of a restoration of my MK1 bugeye. Need to put a wiring harness in (the other one is gone). Friend of mine gave me a A - Series motor Alternator. I guess you have to put a different bracket in it. This part right? http://mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx? PlateIndexID=39078&SortOrder=1 How different of a wiring harness would be used? Should I make my own? Should I order a stock one? With the alternator I won't use a regulator right? "Mike Aarset" 11252... MORE

Hello all I just bought a 100-4 and want to complete my collection with a bug eye. I would like to trade my 1960 Goggomobil ES400 European coupe for a "NICE" bug eye. Hello all I just bought a 100-4 and want to complete it with a bug eye. I have a very nice Goggomobil ES400 European Coupe. I would say it's worth is around $9,000.00 or more, as it is a very rare floor shift with the 400 engine, all rebuilt. I would be interested in trading for a 'NICE' bug eye. Any takers? G'day guys. After the last post, I realised that the seat bases we make here in Oz are actually Mk II or Mk III Sprite. They are identical in shape, size etc to the Bugeye, but the Bugeye base has a large rectangular perforated steel sheet welded into the bottom for breathing. If it's something to sit on you need, these are perfect, but for a concourse restoration they aren't the right ones. Sorry about that, I should know better! avagoodday Colin "Colin@SpriteParts" 11215... MORE
Seth, On each side, I bored a hole through the "frame" (box section) into the fenderwell in this area. Put a short piece of 1/2" Sch 40 (I think) steel pipe in the hole and welded it in at both ends. My 7/16" bolt goes through the inside of the pipe, and the nut is in the fenderwell. Overkill? Maybe. But it's not going to pull out. H "hamondale" 11206... MORE
