Hello Gang! Working on a BE that has a Judson supercharger installed, using stock carb.that came with the kit,the fuel pump is a electric Purlator [4 to 7 psi.],the problem is that the gas runs out the overflow of the carb.,do we need a fuel reg. or is there something wrong with the carb. float?????? 1) sounds like the clutch cover is not engaging the driven plate fully. When warm, have someone watch the clutch lever at the trany and see if it is indeed moving properly as the pedal is depressed and released. 2) Low fluid? Check the brake fluid level and then try to bleed the slave cycl. or 3) with engine off put it in 1st and try to start it. warning if the clutch doesn't slip the care will move and try to leave. beready and be pointed away from anything hard!!! or soft either!! 4) while driving see if... Hi there, during my easter garage clearout I came across that old ALLARD supercharger fitting kit for the BMC A-series engine that I bought ages ago at an UK autojumble. It is a complete ALLARD kit minus the actual charger only (it would suit a SHORROCK C75), plus fitting/setup instructions for 948/998 an 1275cc engines. I won't fit it in my lifetime, so I intend to put it on Ebay.co.uk (though the kit is in Germany)in the near future, but give everyone in this group a chance to make me a sensible offer. Photos available via email, to serious... MORE
I stopped over at Bob's today to get a fuel guage. The bastard wouldn't sell me one. we didn't know which of the two he had would work. soooooo.... i got a SPEEDO, MGA ELECTRIC TACHO, and an OIL PRESS/WATER TEMP Guage instead. The other super kewl trick instrument he has....and he won't sell it to me(...until i get a turbo) is a dual Vacuum guage for the #3 and #4 engines off of a bomber info for the masses.... Bob still has 1 or 2 BE mechanical tachs and a good oil press / water temp guage contact... MORE
G'day Scott et al Yes, my ProdSports Midget has a MOWOG cross-flow, twin 45DCOE, 1460cc, nice camshaft, 12.5:1 compression, and puts out 155 bhp on a freshly calibrated dyno. More important is the 125 ft lbs of torque at 4,500 5,000 and 5,500 rpm. There are a couple more things we could have done to get more power (say to 165 bhp) but it would have been at the expense of mid range torque and engine reliability. With a long stroke crankshaft, I don't rev it past 6,500. Ken Elder's heads are a good basis for an engine build,... MORE
Ken Elder here in Sydney Australia makes an excellent crossflow head which is running in several minis which deliver around 160 odd BHP and loads a torque. I will set up for the road and have assembled by a demon tweaker who feels that 140-150 is well possible with plenty of tractability. Marcel ran a flow test comparison which did not show great numbers - the head was returned and found to be problematic - since Ken has recast the head and is getting strong flow - but its real strength is air speed. Colin Dodds is running an... MORE
You can see quite a few pictures of the "Airport Racer" on spritepot.com if you cant find the link, try a search of "spritespot" on google. Then look in the spritespot photos section. Oh, the Isetta has my own custom built supercharger on it. The only one in the world! I designed and built the whole thing myself using a roots type blower off of a 1975 Porsche 912 (the smog pump) Greg "Greg Hahs" 13503... MORE

People say things about things they don't know first hand because someone said and someone said.......AND SOMEONE SAID........ THEN it's the truth......NOT!!!!! "To fit a Metro turbo would be a big job on a Bugeye. It would take altering the hood and if you have never worked with a turbo it is not an easy job to get one working well. It takes a lot of different equipment adapted to your motor." NOT!!!!!!! YOU DO not know WHAT you are talking about! #1. You DO NOT HAVE TO "ALTER THE HOOD"! #2. IT IS NOT A LOT OF WORK!... MORE
Within one of the many posts regarding supercharging one of you mentioned the metro turbo. Could one of you explain to us newbies the details of adding a metro turbo to a Sprite A series engine? Is it a reasonable job to do and are parts readily available to us in the US? Are there any members who have done this who wouldn't mind contacting me offline on the subject? On the supercharge note I thought I read once upon a time someone who had adapted the Toyota MR2 supercharge to a A series engine. Any thoughts on this?... MORE
You're correct, Vigil.... The Metro turbocharger was spec'd for low/mid-range boost. One application actually had a static CR of 10.5-1 but all sorts of stuff on it to limit boost and ign. advance to keep it out of pre-ignition/ detonation. Worked very well I am told. Of course, if you know what you're doing, there's a helluvlot you can do with modern digital stuff including "trimming" the boost in real time. I did get to drive my stock '67 Sprite using an "overdriven" Judson giving the originally intended 6psi boost curve to the larger bore motor, teamed with a... MORE
Bob... "Torque" gets you there, "HP" keeps you there. The blower is more of a torque rather than HP producer but quite a lot depends upon the cam profile and "spec" of the particular motor. Fr'instance, a Judson (6psi boost curve) on a stock 948cc Frogeye almost (but not quite) "halved" the stock car's 0-60 time but did almost nothing for top speed. Cap'n Bob '60 Frog "Robert E. I have an A-35 4-door and an A-30 2-door. You must remember that they are the big brother to the Bugeye. When it went out of production DMH took the drivetrain and installed it into the Bugeye tub. Everything you can do to a Bugeye you could do to an A-35. Its good to see David beat Goliath. I wouldn't want to do that to my baby, though I do have a supercharger on one just for laughs. A great little town car and 40 mpg. Cheers, Rex "Rex Urban" 13045... MORE
Actually, you CAN put the transverse block in an inline application without MUCH machine work! And It's not on the rear of the block. This is what I had to do to do it! {using the BL A+ turbo block} #1. You have to tap out the oil uptake hole in the block to use the oil pickup for the inline engine and tap the holes for the main cap. {the Mini is a o-ring type} #2. Tap the holes for the rear main seal. {or use the new type of seal} #3. Use the crank and rods from... MORE

I have been trying to follow the progress at Moss for their supercharger kit. The one they have for MG's looks very good. I recently got this from moss: "We have the manifold mocked up in aluminum plate. Full speed ahead on getting the kit together by next summer. Check our web pages, when the project gets closer and looks like it will be viable and cost effective I'll put a web page up describing the progress. Kelvin." My Pierce head is ordered and my hands are healing, so soon I will be back turning wrenches. Leroy "Carol and... MORE
Yeah, Jacob at Moss told me all about a blower. He's the one who put the bug in my ear....so to speak. I think he feels that I do not donate enough of my money to him. I mentioned that I was thinking of puting a V-* into my MGB GT and he told me before I do that I need to go to Goleta and test drive an MGB with a supercharger, and I would change my mind. Don at Mini Mania has a supercharger on a frogeye in Nevada City that he said has over 140 HP....totally... MORE
