Hi Colin, Must have been a "Running when parked" type of car! Just dust off the spark plugs get a battery jump and you can drive it home with the parking brake! I've done that before!!!!! Later, Paul A "Paul Asgeirsson" 14990... MORE
I have a 1959 for sale. The car is in excellent driving condition with only a couple very minor body blemishes that can be fixed very easily. The top and tuneau are in perfect condition and the engine has been restored a few years ago. I recently replaced the starter, generator, and put on a spin on oil filter adaptor in the past 2 years. It has very low origional miles on it and is good as a daily driver and close to concours condition. I can give more specifics to anyone interested. The sale is due to an... MORE
G'day all Why is it you Yanks have to have your own unique way of measuring stuff. Where did this idea of a "US gallon" come from anyway. I don't suppose you have a "US inch" or a "US second" do you? OK, I can understand the confusion, but this is a British car and has British components measured in British units. You should be aware that referring to components in other languages (and I do refer to American) or even daring to carry metric tools in the boot (no, not trunk) can cause your Bugeye to have a... And that would be why our oil drain plugs are now 15 mm, and every other nut and bolt in your new car is metric. Bob, Troutdale, OR "Robert Webb" 14937... MORE
FWIW, I am running a 1275 W/HS-4's. The PO had installed #6 needles and I was getting about 15 MPG. BC convinced me to switch to NG's and I think I am getting about 35 MPG before switching to the 5 speed. The plugs don't come out heavy black carbon any more either. Bob, Troutdale, OR P.S. Larry, Will see you at the ABFM, might even have my car there this year. "Robert Webb" 14802... MORE

Thanx for the info about the rebuilt dizzy. My little brother works at an advance parts store, I will check with him when I get that far. Right now, my thoughts are leaning toward Mallory distributor and PerTronix Rev Limiter. Gonna be a while before I get that far. The part with the one bolt holding it to the block is the piece about to enter jeopardy. I find them available for 1500, but not 948,1095, & 1275. I have several engines set back, including the 948 my current project was manufactured with. I hope I wont need to... MORE
OK Leroy! If you aren't a 97 lb weakling, just get it close. It's a little bitty engine. Now if it were a 454, that's a different story. Actually Leroy, I have mine on a stand right now, and if you are going to do to your engine, what I have done to mine, mounting it to the stand is the least of your worries. Try bolting on a new aluminum head, 1.50 roller rockers, adjustable belt drive, and find out that when each pushrod is off the cam lobe, it rubs up against the head!!!! AHHHH!!!!!!!! So all,... MORE
Having a little problem with bugeye right that I can't get back to until next weekend, so I thought I would see if the lists have any suggestions beyond what I've done so far. Car was running perfectly at beginning of week. Drove it to work on Monday - ran great. Started out Tuesday morning, but turned back to house after a mile. Ran okay through neighborhood, seemed a little "off" but I just thought engine was still cold. But on highway I tried to accelerate hard, car ran up to about 2500-3000rpms, and would "stutter" - no power... MORE
My bugeye has rust at the very fronts and backs of the outer sills (at the points where the wheel wells start.) The Moss sill patch panels cover the entire sill from front to back. Does anyone know of a source for just the fronts and backs of the outer sills? Bill Wilkman wilkmanracing@... 14582... MORE
Are you kidding Bob? I am an engineer and have a bridgeport in my garage. Luckily, I still have all my fingers! I had a friend wire EDM me a couple of front tilt kits like Speedwell sells, out of stainless steel. I hope to easily change my original bonnet with the fiberglass Speedwell one with just a couple of bolts and a plug. I didn't want to use the hinges Speedwell uses because I am grafting the radiator ducting from a doner bonnet and plan to use the same attaching points on the shrouds. As for locking down... MORE
I think that you probably have the right gauge and sending unit, but you might check two possibibities. 1. Lucas electricial system, so 40+ year old electrial connections leave somethng to be desired. put some diaelectric grease in each of the plug-in connections. There is actually a little brass cleanning brush available. (I think a 22 cal brass cleanning brush will work too.) 2. I saved the best for last... I had that problem and it turned out to be the 40+ year old sending unit had been sitting, and the float was sticking. I had to drop the... MORE
When using a five point system where are your attachment points for the shoulder belts. Mine are attached to a welded in box behind the seats making them a little higher.(Courtesy of the PO) This box also is the base for the rollbar. This seems low to me as I have heard the belts should come forward on a level plane such as from a cross member of the rollbar. I ask because I'm installing Recaro seats in my BE and now the shoulder belt angle behind the seats is even more exaggerated. Phil Nase http://home.ptd.net/~nase "Phil Nase" 14380... MORE
Group of inquiring minds. 10 April 2004. I left my house to go pay the guy at the town dump the five bucks I owed him from earlier in the day. My other car is a 87 Volvo 240dl. Same road same speed most likely less. On my way back from the dump 45mph. no rollbar, standard lap belts. Approched a right hand turn. Entered the turn and a Rather large red truck was in my lane. He never moved. To be honest I don't think he saw me. I served to the right. Front right slip into a... MORE
Thanks everyone, since I was upside down last year in my previous bugeye, I want the protection of a Roll Bar. I will most likely bolt it in considering the thickness of the floor pan. I could then weld the base at the four points of contact? Michael iver28 61 BE "Iver28" 14343... MORE

My '59 and '61 Sprites had carpeting that was "snapped". The only part I don't like about the snaps is the sharp screw points under the car. The biggest advantage to using snaps is that it's easy to remove the carpeting for cleaning and to dry it out if it gets wet. Rick "Rick Fisk" 14290... MORE
G'day Jens The very first place after the oil pump where the oil exits the block is the large threaded hole on the right ride rear, sitting at approx 45 degree angle, where there will be a banjo bolt and an oil pipe down to the oil filter. If you have an oil cooler fitted, then you will have an oil line there that goes to the cooler. The oil then travels through the filter and back through the internal oil galleries, with cross-drillings that feed the camshaft and crankshaft bearings, before at last coming to the small hole... The A series oiling system is a pretty bullet proof design and very reliab le. Even a totally trashed engine will show some oil pressure at startup. I f you engine was fine when you put it into storage it should be okay now. H owever if you truly DO NOT have any OP now, I suspect you do have damaged engine bearings and the motor will need to come out. Was it making any ratt leing noises while running? I suggest that you remove the oil line fitting, at the block, make and in stall a temporary line... MORE
None, but you do have to push real hard to get the bolt through the floorpan with the carpet in place. One of the first things that I did to my Bugeye was to Olywax/Waxoly? the "common Bugeye rust areas" including the floorpans. (Paint first, that stuff is neat, but there isn't any painting or gluing after it's on.) I also found that there is a drain in the floorpan, something that I didn't know as I was driving home 25 years ago and the creek was going over the road. Caution, 5" of clearance and ???" to your... I just happened to see this item advertised in the J. C. Whitney catalogue and it reminded me of a thread a few weeks ago. It is a magnet device that is attached to a big runner band that goes around your oil filter and it traps magnetic debris and is re useable. It is called a "Magna-Strap" part number SK7 10573 P. It sells for (you guessed it!) $19.95. Usual disclaimers, I have nothing to do with them etc. I just remember us talking abut finding magnets and JB welding them in plugs etc. Cheers, Bob in San... I don't use FRAM filters, except in a pinch and maybe for initial engine start up where I will be changing it within an hour. Here is a link that will make you more infirmed on what filters are available and how they stack up to each. http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilterstudy.html I have a programmer friend who's job, in earlier times, was data entry on oil filter comparisons. He told me that WIX , by the numbers, makes the best filters on the market. I believe him as I used to be a WIX distributor in the past and had a lot... MORE
