I have a 1959 for sale. The car is in excellent driving condition with only a couple very minor body blemishes that can be fixed very easily. The top and tuneau are in perfect condition and the engine has been restored a few years ago. I recently replaced the starter, generator, and put on a spin on oil filter adaptor in the past 2 years. It has very low origional miles on it and is good as a daily driver and close to concours condition. I can give more specifics to anyone interested. The sale is due to an... MORE

Sorry Colin, Our kids only go to school 8 1/2 months a year on this side of the pond and a most of it is in being "Politically Correct", "non sexual discrimination", "Pro Teachers Union", "A Kennedy can do no wrong," etc, etc, etc. Reading, writing, and 'rithmatic are extra critical activities. The fact that a US Gallon is 4 quarts and an Imperial (as in United Kingdom) Gallon is 4 liters, and since they are teaching everything else, nobody can read when they grab the quart oil can that says it is only .9.... Liters. It's a good... MORE

Well all, My daughter has a Miata and I looked it over a few months ago thinking about putting that entire drive train and suspension in my Bugeye. I decided to go ahead and use the A-Series and 5-speed, and update the suspension with air bags. I didn't want to have to buy the Miata and see what I can do. Well, to all you Fathers out there, last night I just got the call all Fathers dred. Yep, Mr. Hahs, this is Sargent Phelps from La Mirada Police Department. You daughter has been involved in an accident, and... MORE

You really take tools, parts and towbar with your LBC when you travel? You don't get to work on my car.......... (HHH) 15 MPG is pretty bad, need a tune up? I have driven my BE from Vancouver, BC to Ensenada, BC ( Mexico ) , never took so much as a screwdriver and got 47 MPG. My Mother used to regularly get 54 in hers. BTW, your brake pipe is off and on my desk, I will get it posted soon. It is "as bent" originally and you get the OE " British Undercoating " too! BC******************** "British... MORE

Does anybody have a picture of the way that the brake pipe from the union to the right front brake is routed? How about a description of the route if no one has a picture? I need to see where it goes before I start bending. It looks like it goes around the back of the shock but the pipe I have does not look to be long enough for that. I'm using one of the kits as sold by Moss and VB. "Larry & Sandi Miller" 14748... MORE

Hi Jim, Look very closely at the fuel line. I had a dodge that exhibited a similar lack of power when the throttle was depressed. I looked at everything and could not figure it out. After trying to do a fast run around the neiborhood I got the car up on stands and there was a tiny wet area near the fuel line. It turned out the line was rotting from the inside out and there was a TINY pinhole that did not seep when the car was sitting, but was creating a vacuum leak or air lock when... MORE

Having a little problem with bugeye right that I can't get back to until next weekend, so I thought I would see if the lists have any suggestions beyond what I've done so far. Car was running perfectly at beginning of week. Drove it to work on Monday - ran great. Started out Tuesday morning, but turned back to house after a mile. Ran okay through neighborhood, seemed a little "off" but I just thought engine was still cold. But on highway I tried to accelerate hard, car ran up to about 2500-3000rpms, and would "stutter" - no power... MORE

Nah, those are easy. Put the Datsun 5 speed transmission in, which has the slave cylinder on the other side, low. No hole, the slave cylinder bleeder is between the frame rail and the transmission. You can't get to it from below, and above you only have the engine, exhaust, carbs, fuel lines, etc. Seeing the bleeder is hard, much less getting a wrench, scocket, pliers on it to open and close it. It's too close to the frame for a bleeder hose...... and like the A.H. slave, you end up doing it 3 times before it gets all... MORE

Peter C. says to give the list a shot at this. I hope you guys can help. My new 59 Bugeye has nothing behind the bonnet grill to accomodate the latching bars. All parts are available new ... except the actual rectangular sheet metal structure that acts as ducting for the radiator, guides for the hood latch and holder of the two little goodies that seat into the two frame rails in front, as well as the round metal guide for the air/heater intake hose. Having said all that: I think what I need is to find an old... MORE

Hey Guys, guess what? I just cut up a good bonnet so I could take the radiator ducting out for my fiberglass hood. I had two of them, so cutting up one was OK. What do ya think of that? :) I own it, and I cut it up! Just messing with you guys. But I did cut it up. But I think I can glass it into the Speedwell bonnet and use the front pivoting hinges I made. I would post some pics, but the last time I checked, the photo section still wasn't working. Is that going... MORE

Hi Daniel, you have been silent for a while now. Good to have you back. I want to avoid cutting the inner fender and footwell if at all possible, especially the footwell. I test fit the 2.5" K&N filter from my other Bugeye and it will fit BUT need to install the soft mount kits and then see if it will still fit. Now as a last resort I can get 2" filters and use a shorter stack. I made a run up to Gilroy today and talked to Pierce Manifolds and Mike volunteered to dial in the Weber's... MORE

Well I bit the bullet and purchased an Edler 8 port cross flow head. It is off being finished and a custom set of (bunch o bananas) extractors built. When it is married to the block and dyno tested I will post the results for the group. Graham Russell, the demon tweaker that prepares and installs these heads for Ken has been getting solid 140HP+ and ~120 Ft/Lb in road prep and 160HP+ in race prep. BTW, a couple of weeks back someone ciculated Marcel's web link showing flow test results that were only so so for the Elder... MORE

Group of inquiring minds. 10 April 2004. I left my house to go pay the guy at the town dump the five bucks I owed him from earlier in the day. My other car is a 87 Volvo 240dl. Same road same speed most likely less. On my way back from the dump 45mph. no rollbar, standard lap belts. Approched a right hand turn. Entered the turn and a Rather large red truck was in my lane. He never moved. To be honest I don't think he saw me. I served to the right. Front right slip into a... MORE

Gerald.... The '67 was the last of pre-emissions engines, though it did come with a PC V valve mounted on the intake manifold. This worked together with the filtered plastic oil cap to provide regulation of crankcase flow-through to dump crankcase gases into the combustion process dependent upon the amount of crankcase depression at any given point in time. This valve is equipped with only one part to wear....it's rubber diaphragm. When it becomes porous, the motor will begin to smoke through the exhaust as the amount of crankcase gases entering the combustion process becomes "uncontrolled". To test for... MORE

G'day Jens The very first place after the oil pump where the oil exits the block is the large threaded hole on the right ride rear, sitting at approx 45 degree angle, where there will be a banjo bolt and an oil pipe down to the oil filter. If you have an oil cooler fitted, then you will have an oil line there that goes to the cooler. The oil then travels through the filter and back through the internal oil galleries, with cross-drillings that feed the camshaft and crankshaft bearings, before at last coming to the small hole... My BE has a '67 1275 with all of the air injection plumbing removed. It runs fine and is a joy to drive. Last year a new (engine)problem developed and I'm not sure what to do about it. Occasionally when taking off from a stop after idling a short while a big cloud of oily smelling smoke comes out of the exhaust. Everything will be fine and then after many stops/starts it will do it again. It's embarassing since I look like a world class polluter. I took the odd looking PCV valve apart and noticed a small amount... MORE

Redline for the 1275 is 6500 RPM, but that's for an engine up to factory specs. Why do you need to exceed 5000 anyway? Air pressure - to some extent is different strokes for different folks, but I'd start with about 26 front, 22 rear and see how I liked the ride and handling. A few pounds more if you drive hard. You can make your knobs shiny again by sanding with 600 grit wet paper and one or two coats of clear acrylic spray, but you'll have to refill the white lettering. "joe blxfstz" 14136... MORE

Aaahhhh, so that's why, Frog. I guess the rear disc brakes came free with the axle and LSD. I could never figure out why people fit discs to the back of Sprites, and then fit limiting valves to stop them working! You could fit a limiting valve from the rear of a Mini. However, these are pretty much on-off things. Minis are so front heavy, under heavy braking it is possible to get the rear wheels in the air. The last thing you want to happen is for the brakes to come on when you are braking hard into... MORE

I just happened to see this item advertised in the J. C. Whitney catalogue and it reminded me of a thread a few weeks ago. It is a magnet device that is attached to a big runner band that goes around your oil filter and it traps magnetic debris and is re useable. It is called a "Magna-Strap" part number SK7 10573 P. It sells for (you guessed it!) $19.95. Usual disclaimers, I have nothing to do with them etc. I just remember us talking abut finding magnets and JB welding them in plugs etc. Cheers, Bob in San...
