You were right ..Technically black is the absence of colour. I black object is something that does not reflect any part of the colour spectrum - so you seen no light waves coming from it. Something that reflects all the colours, which we call white. Now, I don't think I have a fav. Most cars I have owned have been white. Our bugeye is red. My other two cars, one is brown the other is blue-ish Don't think I could own a black car, Aussie summers are to hot and I rarely wash cars. Wally Wally 11742... MORE
Ten years ago when I restored my BE I was tempted to paint it in its orig inal colour : dark cherry red. But I didn=B4t feel that it would reflect th e spirit of the car. My car has had so many colours. Dark cherry red, british racing green, or ange, old english white and several red colours. I wanted a red colour, but there are so many red colours that would wrong . It is a balance between a red that is too dull and a red that is too chea p. I finally found a paint... MORE
My brother has been quoted as saying black is the only color that really looks good. He has had a black BMW SUV, and an older Porsche, and some others, but I've always disliked black. In fact white to me is preferable, altho I like a lot of diff colors. But my question goes back to style. I know Brits tend to be conservative, and maybe Americans who own British cars like to preserve that tendency, but I think it quite amazing that you never see any flames or creative multicolor paint jobs on many of the cars you... Hi, My Frogeye is currently a poorly sprayed black version ( dull in places , runs , orange peel, flaky in parts etc) It's original colour was Old English White. It will be re-sprayed (probably yellow BUT The photo of the black one at the front page of this site looks good. From experience of vintage motorcycles the colour shows up any marks and dust very easily. But when clean and polished they are the dog's b*ll*x, as we say. What are the listers views on black frogeyes, I can't ever recall seeing one. Alan EJ "Alan" 11725... MORE

Thanks for all the replies about conversion hubs. On another subject...a wh ile back I asked if anyone knew who was making a reproduction Tudor washer fluid bottle with the logo painted on the bottle. (SPRIDGET bottle not Buge ye). www.holden.co.uk in England can supply this bottle. They promptly sent me one. It looks great! The cap detail is not exact, but you would have to know what you were looking for and be closer than 12 inches to notice. Hol den also sells the Gunson Colortune for 21 pounds. Hi everyone Has anyone succesfully used 13x5inch wire wheels on a frogeye using conversion hubs? I am looking at converting - and would prefer to put 5 inch wide wheels on. Also, I don't have access to a wire wheel axle casing - hence the conversion hub. Regards Chris '58 Frogeye South Wales "howes" 11711... MORE

Unreal, BC.... but I love it when this stuff happens. In 1972 (or thereabouts), I and wife number 2 head out for the Algarve in Portugal. It's time to take a break, get the hell away from it all. We check in at a nice quiet, out of the way pensione, take a bath (very sexy bath!) and head downstairs for some great cocoa and a snack. We sit down next to a couple at an adjoing table and note they are talking in "American". We say "hi" and ask them where they're from. They are from Stamford, CT... MORE
Cap'n, Your reference to having a school mate with a certain name reminds me of a funny thing that happened a couple of weeks ago at the British Legends Weekend, on Cape Cod - Sunday car show. Had our 3 Bugeyes on display. Our names on the registration card. A guy walked by, saw my name, and asked if he could speak with the owner. As it turns out, this guy (a past high school friend) bought one of my Bugeyes back in 1967. And still has it. I'm trying to get it back from him now. It's tough... MORE
British classics guy. I never caught your name. Thanks for the advice. Where exactly would I find the "later 1275 ex. manifold"? And why do you prefer this to 1.75 inch medium bore headers with the LCB? Capn Bob, thanks also. I hope the memories I jogged are good ones! Do you share this dislike of Webers? Well, Leroy.... Rick Fisk has pretty much filled you in on this. Normally aspirated engines do not run at 100% when it comes to cylinder filling. Normally, it's no more than 80% considering all "losses" by design, and then, only at the "torque point" of the cam profile. Below or above this rpm "range", cylinder filling efficency drops off. (It is the above latter effect that "variable cam timing" systems thwart.) Supercharging solves this inherent inefficency of normal aspiration by "packing" the mixture into the cylinder by "compression". This is where the term "forced induction" comes from. Well, obviously,... MORE

G'Day Pat, I have been doing some checking for you in the land of OZ.........From my enquiries there is a product on the local market, used in the plumbing trade called "Bakers Soldering Fluid" - I have also seen it mentioned in regard to "Leadlight Windows" and Sheet Metal workers. In plumbing it was the "old fashion" method plumbers used before tha advent of the newer fluxes and silver solder (hard solder). It is used in conjunction with "soft solder" and lays down, when heated, a "tinned" surface. This tinned surface is what the solder adheres to when it... MORE
Easy there Ed! You almost scared the s*it out of me with that post. Right now it's not just the floors that I am worried about. I'm wiring my bugeye with a harness from Victoria British. The main harness is in, and I understand it. What I can't figure out is how to marry the harness from the rear to the main harness. There are five wires coming from the rear with metal nipples on each. There is only one connector available on the main harness, but it has red/white wires. I think the red wire from the rear goes there. What about the wires that are supposed to connect to the flasher switch or the ignition switch? Am I supposed to clip the wires... MORE
Ahh, yes, BTDT. Other than having the engine and Transmission in, that is where I started. It took me a year from that point to get third in the Portland ABFM. Other than the painting that I had the first coat done during, (Now on coat 5, will have stripped and sanded before next coat, probably before "Sprite Spree",) that year, I worked on it almost every night. You can see the progress in the photos section, Bob, PDX, or on ebay @ me for 60Bugi. It has been changed, but when finished with the "alterations", I will post... MORE
