G'day Michael Sprite and Midget clutches are notoriously difficult to bleed. Look here: www.spriteparts.com.au/bleeding/htm and see if it helps. avagoodday Colin (quiet at the moment as we are ceurrently on holidays in Cairo!) "Colin Dodds" 14553... MORE

Please help me remember, what is a safe size of tire that will fit (assuming standard wheel offset) without rubbing issues "inside or out" on a MKI sprite? I was thinking nothing past 165/60/13 was safe. I remember issues with this size of tire on the later cars. Is this correct? Thanks Doug W. "ah948cc" 14556... MORE

Actually, they were options on the cars sold everywhere. It's just that the book I read, questioned wheather the Tach option was really optional as they had never found a Bugeyes without the tach. Bob, Troutdale, OR "Robert Webb" 14551... MORE

Is it just me, or is that the only Bugeye in the world that was made without a tach? Bob, Troutdale, OR "Robert Webb" 14549... MORE

Good Morning; It seems it best to walk away from a confusing situation. This morning I walked out to the garage w/ coffee in hand. Step on the clutch pedal and heard a squirt from under the car. Refilled the MC and now pedal seems to be fine. Bugeye's you gotta love'm. Today drill holes in tub for rollbar. Michael (iver28) Rifton, NY. 61 BE "Iver28" 14547... MORE

Michael, I'm basically a rookie at this. Did my first brake bleed job just a couple of months ago using an ezibleed/one man setup. It worked great, but I did find that by going with the logic of doing the closest to the MC last I ran in to trouble. I interpreted that to mean the clutch slave cylinder as the last one. Know this: I can't say that what I'm suggesting is gospel. You decide after listening to what the veteran bugeye guys say. They're the real source here, not me. (By the way: At first I used... MORE

I have my diff apart for the BE, all except the Crown gear assembly which is in good shape so it is staying togeather. In my factory workshop manual it shows "#35 Bevel pinion shims" that sit between the "#34 Pinion bearing distance piece" and the "#36 Bevel pinion front bearing". The problem is that the MOSS exploded diagram is not "exploded" the same way as the diagram is in this Manual. I do not see these shims. Am I missing something? Can any one tell me what part number they are, or how many of what I need... MORE

Hi Larry, Try Colin's site at: http://spriteparts.com.au/ Look in the garage section for the car named "Noddy" - top right hand picture. Also look at the web page for the car itself: http://www4.tpgi.com.au/bigears/bugeye.html Page 2 of pictures again top right picture. Hope this is what you are looking for. Jeff Land down under. Just came through Minneapolis airport. As I was sitting at the gate waiting to leave ... browsing my road copy of Original Sprite and Midget by Terry Horler ... up walks a guy and says, "Hey. I have that same book. I'm an MG guy." We started talking and it turns out that he's had a bunch of british cars over the years and is thinking of getting a bugeye. I told him about this list and he got excited about it and asked me to email him the address, so I'm doing that. Just want to give you... MORE

My Memory is failing me, but I know I saw some great detail pictures on a red frogeye down under that had nice brackets holding the cooler between the chassis legs. I have a frogeye which is fitted with a Donald Healey disc brake conversion however the car has lost its original pedal box and master cylinders and front brake calipers. Knowing BMC etc I would suspect these items were the same as some other vehicle. Does anyone know? "titesprite" 14515... MORE

I have heard several different version of "how to properly tighten and shim the front stub axle nut" for use with 1275 drum brake equipped (upgraded stub axles for vintage racing) and timken tappered roller bearings with no center bearing spacer (I've also heard a modified spacer should be used - thoughts?). Okay, guys, I had the honor of being the last one to swallow this April fool's joke. But, while the last laugh may be on me, the last laugh in the bigger sense will be on all of us if we don't bring the younger generation into our fold. Remember those Model A and T Fords that brought big bucks 20 years ago? They're languishing now and going for a relative pittance. If our LBCs are to have any sort of future at all, the younger generation needs to be encouraged to embrace them like we did. That does... MORE

I stock them @ 10 deep for customers that purchase spindle and/or bearing kits. I just (normally) send all, you use what is needed, return rest, and then I invoice. Otherwise. I can get. Just tell me how many of each size, Keith. Ed "justbrits" 14506... MORE

I bought a complete car on ebay and had the guy ship me only the parts I wanted off of it. It still has the bonnet. I'm sure he would cut the front end off and send it to you. Call me if you want his name and email address. Greg "Greg Hahs" 14491... MORE

Curt, Had the same problems with my 1275. Was told it was a good engine. Used copper-cote on the first gasket. It leaked. Used Cat (as in heavy equipment) "green" head gasket sealer (supposed to be the best stuff around) on the second gasket. It leaked. Took the head to a machine shop. It was warped. Had it planed. Hasn't leaked since. Hope this helps. Dave 61 Bugeye 66 Sprite 60 BT7 Dave Gay 14492... MORE

Are you kidding Bob? I am an engineer and have a bridgeport in my garage. Luckily, I still have all my fingers! I had a friend wire EDM me a couple of front tilt kits like Speedwell sells, out of stainless steel. I hope to easily change my original bonnet with the fiberglass Speedwell one with just a couple of bolts and a plug. I didn't want to use the hinges Speedwell uses because I am grafting the radiator ducting from a doner bonnet and plan to use the same attaching points on the shrouds. As for locking down... MORE

Peter C. says to give the list a shot at this. I hope you guys can help. My new 59 Bugeye has nothing behind the bonnet grill to accomodate the latching bars. All parts are available new ... except the actual rectangular sheet metal structure that acts as ducting for the radiator, guides for the hood latch and holder of the two little goodies that seat into the two frame rails in front, as well as the round metal guide for the air/heater intake hose. Having said all that: I think what I need is to find an old... MORE

What???... so the only advice we can give is for him to hear what he wants to hear??? He asked for advice... that's what he's getting. Most of the advice is "don't do it". He doesn't have to listen, but by your same reasoning, we have the right to give our opinions especially since we were asked. Is it better that he go ahead blindly and potentially ruin another good car (if it is in fact a good car... and that is the basic premise of that advice) and then find out that the "encouragement" led him to a... Hey guys - ok i guess this has gone on long enough. I really thought that the notion of some semiliterate gen Y slacker posting about buying a bugeye and ricing it up, and just happening to put up his first post on April Fools day would arouse some suspicions. And who is Barz Cetane? What a name. I though that somebody would know that octane is to gasoline as cetane is... to diesel. As in Vin Diesel, star of the ricer classic The Fast and the Furious. And I thought some of you guys would go ballistic. Really... MORE
