Chris, I have both in my auto-X'd 1380 Bugeye. In addition, it has LSD, a good E-brake, modern seals and berrings, and hardened axles. It's in the form of a modified RX7 diff. that can be less expensive to do than any SINGLE modification on the Bugeye diff. and does not alter the car. It leaves the stock diff. for re-installation at any time. It is does require some professional intervention to accomplish. I will be making more of this information avail. as the documentation proceeds. John Carey San Jose, Ca. 95136 PH. 408-264-9256 E-mail: Jcarey4NGs@... Auto Web Sites... MORE
Hello Cliff, I live in South Louisiana and have not been reading the posts lately. We had a "little" bad weather come through here the last two weeks and I have been distracted. I live in the New Orleans area and drive a Viper Red '59 with red/black interior. Look for it - my car is on the road as much as possible - except during hurricanes!! Under the front longitudinal frame rails there are predrilled bolt holes. I have so rarely seem a Bugeye with a front bumper I was wondering what these were for. What I have seen is front rollbar/swaybars attached here. What gives? If Bugeyes did not come from the factory with swaybars, what are the holes for? Was it an option? It's been a slow day,-I have to wonder about something! Bob C in Kansas bcah@... 5040... MORE
Hello, Just joined the list last night. I have been a member of the Spridget list off and on for a while, and am looking forward to a list of bugeye owners. I have a white 1959 bug with red interior (AN5L23843). I'm working on getting it back on the road so I can enjoy the mild Spring and Winter months down here in Louisiana. No replies = no interest! After doing this stuff (Bugeye) for more years than I want to remember. I sure would have thought that some folks other than me would be interested in collecting any/all Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite memorabilia that has hit the marketplace lately. Guess that I was wrong again. (Sure am getting tired of that, I feel that I am the only one in the universe that gets off on finding a BE Toy in obscure towns in TN or SD.) Not too worry, I am getting older everyday and someone else will be getting all... MORE

That's close, Tim: Actually the real explanation is somewhat more simple. In order for iron (yr bodyshell) to form iron oxide (yr rust) it must be oxidized (ie, become a positively charged ion). Connecting the positive terminal of the battery to it only helps that process along. Of course there must also be water present (which is the reason cars in Arizona don't) and, of course the chloride from salt is catalytic to iron oxidation, so if you park your positive ground car in the ocean, you can probably watch chemistry at work as the sheet metal fizzes away...... Pete, As a guess, I'd say you plain plate was sanded down at some point. You could remove the paint from it and see if there is any evidence of identification. The ID plate is soldered on. After reading Steve's (an5l9717 ) gauge addition to his car to make it more enjoyable, I was driving last weekend and thinking of things I've revised/added to my LBC's over the past 37 years that this group might find interesting/helpful. I'll write them up and put one in when the discussions allow. I'd love to see other owners do the same thing. I have always wanted my cars to remain as original as possible. Anything I add can always be removed and returned to "original". One change I made early was with the windshield wipers. In Southern Louisiana you... MORE
