Steve, Putting a new windshield in a new rubber seal is a bitch! It is frought with the real possibility of cracks in the glass. I did mine on the padded living room floor and used a variety of wedge tools to cajole the puppy home. It took many hours. If any members have a hint, it would be great. It's possible that a light coat of liquid soap would "grease the skids", but I've not tried it nor do I know how the end results would be. If you want a polished aluminium frame, you have to remove... MORE

Mike, I will try to get the full details worked up on the Mazda rear end swap by the tech meet on the third of February. In general, it is the solid axel with disk brakes (about 1985/6) and requires shortening (depending on your wheel offsets), resplining of the axels, welding on brackets that are like a Bugeye, redo of the brake and emer. brake setups, and the drive line adaption. Sounds bad, but it is much more cost effective than all the mods that I did for the Bugeye rear end. As to the front big brake conversion,... MORE

Looking at the bearings and the boxes, the following should be the correct numbers for Taper Roller bearings. They are both NTN bearings, 4T-30205 and 4T-30303 The Seals are 1.375 2.125 0.375 (inner, outer and thickness i assume) This is listed as a kit from CBC bearings (my local supplier) and is called: Heavy duty tapered roller bearing for Leyland, Austin, Morris, and MG front wheel kit M110 The kit is listed as a replacement for M109 (roller bearing type) and contains two bearings, seal ad split pin for one side.. I dont know if this kit number is... MORE

Mike, Sometimes the spindle is a little different from side to side. I always check the berring for "slide factor" on the spindle B4 putting it into the hub. If necessary, a little emery paper may help "touch up" the surface so that future maint. is done with out the need for a wheel puller. If the fit is currently good, IE: they roll and don't slop, then the next maint. cycle is the time to touch up the fit. I hear you. Unique ends as soon as you put on disc brakes, or some other mod that did not come with the car. Everybody is different. I had mine for 30 years and had it stock to what you saw, and everthing in between. I drove it almost every day and enjoyed it more the more I did. The only rule I had was to keep the appearance as near as possible to the original. Only outward difference you could see was the wheels and tires. How many bugeye's have the original tires and wheels, damn few anyway.... MORE

Hey guys, this is a quick hello from the west coast of australia Just joined the list this morning, have a 1961/2 bugeye that has been in the family since 1968. Dad bought and fixed it up back then (respray and re-ring, replaced halfshaft, cost of $276 including the car!!!) and gave it to my mum as a wedding present, and it was driven for 3-4 years until the cost of rego became too much, (and i was born). once i reached 16-17 years old, i found the car in the shed, and started playing, 2 years later, it...
