I used grease for many, many years for
the exact same reason: the damn thing
had a grease nipple on it so I "greased"
it!! Logical? Of course. Same with my
MGB's, etc. Never had a worn rack or
steering rack problem, ever.
So I absolutely agree with your thinking
on this 'cause it works!! And your thinking
as to a "sump" for oil I agree with also,
but that's exactly why you "fill" the boots.
On the other hand:

Sway bars were not standard on all cars. My 65 Midget did not come with one , yet the mounts were there. Perhaps it was in 75 that they became standard issue. As high as those rubber nosed atrocities sit, they need 'em!! FLAME SUIT ON!!! Grin firmly planted!!! Brad

I am planning a trip to the UK from the !4th September to 24th September. My
wife & I will be staying in Basingstoke for a few days then moving on to
Epping. We will then travel north to County Durham and return to Epping. It
is my intention to visit the Midget & Sprite day at Brooklands on the 23rd
September. I would love to make contact with fellow enthusiasts if at all
possible. Is there a "shouldn't be missed" museum, display, swap meet,etc
worth adding to our travels? Love to hear from anybody. I have a '63 GAN2

You should have seen all of the dust I knocked out of there with an air hose when I got home. If those things had been made out of asbestos the EPA would have shut me down as an environmental hazard. I 've got the cleanest drums in town. Jack
