Hello, Arnold-
Unless I miss my guess, you about already have the "right" needle, if
you
got the HIF44 off a turbo Metro.
Wouldn't happen to be a "BDD", would
it?
I know this because I am going the same
way on my application as well and so is
Mike MacLean (maybe, in his case, he's
considering a 1275 with 5 speed now, not
sure about the blower part) and have been
doing the necessary research to get "basic" profiles sorted. Thanx to
Mike
MacLean, acquired fabricated manifold
to place between HIF44 and Judson
intake manifold.
When I found myself unable to locate the
"RG(A)" needle for our applications as
recommended in Dan Stapleton's excellent book on powertuning Spridgets,
I mentioned this to another lister who, as
it amazingly turned out, knew Dan and was kind enough to contact him on
my
behalf. No names mentioned here out of
respect for the privacy of each of these
gentlemen.
The RG(A) is not available and Dan (logically?) recommended the Series
A turbo Metro needle as a basic startng
point with dyno "dial in" recommended,
of course (BDD). So ordered HIF44
with BDD, .100 jet and "red" spring.
BDK is one step "richer" according to
charts, so ordered one of those, also,
as assume this "progression" on dyno,
though it might be the "other way", of
course.
As for head gasket, Rivergate (Bill Perry of Datsun 5 speed fame)
recommended
for the engine he built for me "tailored"
for Judson application according to my
specs., the turbo Metro head gasket.
Both Dan Stapleton's needle and Bill
Perry's head gasket recommendations
I have accepted as perfectly logical for
our applications and am going with them
accordingly.
I have not forgotten to forward to you
the curve for my Aldon "tailored" dizzy.
It had to go back (wrong item) and be
replaced, then the replacement had no
advance curve map. Finally got that then
the PerTronix failed in Bill's shop and had
to go back to PerTronix! New replacement
on the way. We'll get there, eventually!!
Rivergate 8.3-11293 with alum. head, 1.5
rollers, Cooper "S" cam and EN40B
crank and "new" rebuilt 5 speed "in the
mail", finally, and should arrive this week.
Will break it in on stock SU's for first 3K
miles then install blower with "stock" Judson pulley (4psi) before going
to 6psi
"original" blower curve with smaller pulley.
by which time hopefully, our intelligent
software engineer (Dean H.) will have
perfected his water injection kit.
Incidentally, I am going over to the SU
not only because of difficulty in setting up
the Holley's progression for street use
but also because I drive this car in
winter temperatures which also involve
a fair amount of humidity wherein the Holley has some serious
carburettor ice
issue which make the application basically
undriveable under these circumstances.
As to compression ratio, do whatever you
can of course to lower it toward 8.0-1 with
the cast iron head, including staying away
from "thin" head gaskets if at all possible,
as every little bit will help!
I will get the Aldon advance curve to you just as soon as we get the
PerTonix matter straightened away and I've got the dizzy along with the
map in my hot little hands. I am very sorry about this.
The "map" is too faint to copy clearly;
we already tried on several machines and
had no luck (rats!!). So the map has to stay with Bill Perry at
Rivergate until we
get the replacement PerTronix installed
and he has had a chance to check the
advance curve to make sure we got the
proper distributor this time around.
Regards.
