Geri-
Thanx for filling me in on the rootes-type
blower you are using, Geri.
I am using 1.5 rollers with a Cooper S
cam in my "new" Rivergate engine. What
problems have you been hearing about with this arrangement? I experience
none.
A flowed head, say with 1.4+ intakes and
1.215 or so exhausts sounds like a plan,
Geri. Should make quite a difference.
MiniMania also has the aluminum variety
with 1.4 intakes but stock size exhaust valves. I am happy with mine.
The alum.
head IS flowed in that it's ports and comb.
chambers have been resdesigned so it
flows substantially better than the stock
head. They also centered the spark plug
(12mm) in the combustion chamber for
a more uniform and "complete" burn.
The Judson application IS problematic
considering the garbage unleaded octanes
readily available today and racing gas,
while available to me, is just too expensive to use in a daily driver.
That and the fact it must be overdriven to give
the larger 1275 engine the 6psi boost curve the application gave the
original
948 for which the application was orginally designed (more heat). Also,
tests have proven the blower operates at about
160F whether it's producing boost or not
due to simple compression heating of
the mixture which is a negative characteristic of vane type blowers.
The vane-type application is a natural for
water injection accordingly but, you'd
need a system that could inject water not
only under boost but also out of boost for
cruising at highway speeds in summer
weather. Delrin vanes would also be a
real plus considering this material is to
some extent "self-lubricating" which would
call for less oil having to be used for this
purpose and thus, less dilution of octanes
in the combustion process.
So there is no doubt that the rootes type
blower is a better bet in these respects.
I may just drop the Judson idea totally
and just go normally aspirated with the
HIF44 I bought for the Judson, on a
suitable APT manifold. I may give this
a try before using the Judson and it I
am happy with the increase in performance over the stock twin SU
1.25's, I just may stay with this and sell
the Judson as too problematic to be
worth all the trouble in getting it to work
on anything but the 948cc engine it was
originally designed to work with.
Gerard will be getting his application up
and running before I get my new engine
broken-in normally aspirated; we'll see
what luck he has and my final decision
may very well be based upon his success
or lack thereof. He knows his stuff so if
anyone can get this application to work on
the bigger motors, he can. And if he can't
I sure as hell won't be able to, either, as
this fellow knows more than I by a long
shot!! We'll see.
Nice "talkin' atcha"!! :)
