There is nothing quite so sweet as that low resonance sound of a spridget
when running well. I had neglected the MK1 for several weeks because of bad
weather but yesterday started it up to take it out for a run around the
block. Did not expect much in the way of engine performance. It has been
constant cleaning, adjusting and tinkering to get it to run well after its
previous owner had let it sit in a garage for 16 years without starting it.
The moment it kicked over yesterday there was no doubt everything had fallen
into place, it ran beautifully. Amazing how much better I felt after taking
it out for a spin. That gave me the psychological boost needed to tackle
replacing the rear 1/4 elliptic springs. Slowly getting there. It was built
in late 62, a 40th birthday present is in order. What to get a Spridget for
its 40th birthday? Polyurethane bushings perhaps. I could use some too.
Particularly after laying 69 MK III yesterday on my back, chest just
clearing the engine pan while removing that dreaded clutch slave cylinder
mounting bolt that hits the frame about 1/64 of an inch before of allowing
the cylinder to come off easily. I'm going to file an eight of an inch off
it before replacing it . . . and jack the car up another inch.
