Sorry for extreemly slow response, my Hard disc FAILED!!!!, I have had to re-build my PC!!! I believe the highway code makes it clear the legality or otherwise of head light wattages. Regards Paul paul@... 1035... MORE

Folks: I am having no luck replacing the 'pesky ring' that holds the two pieces of the plungers in the master cylinder together. I checked with a local parts supplier and they have an OEM new replacement, but indicated the same unit fits from 67 to 79 MG Midget (inclusive). These guys have been wrong before (ie stated I needed 1 carb kit for both carbs ... but were surprised when I told them I only have one side draft original carb). Is their interchangeability information correct ? Roger Siemens 75 MG Midget Saskatchewan, Canada rnsiemens@... 1033... MORE

I've got 2 sets of the Sebring Sprite 1959-19?? 8-inch x 1.5-inch rear brakes. All new components with new drums also. Massive increase in surface area. Not cheap since the parts give effectively an entirely new rear end. Still, cheaper than ruining a complete set of front panels on a tyre wall !!! This is the exact same set as shown in Terry Horlers book on the Sprite. JPEG photos available. "rob thomas" 961... MORE

Bob My 60 was an original right hand drive, and from my restoration it appears that all of the holes are in the firewall and the master cylinder can be moved as well. you may run into a problem with the steering rack and you may need to swap your lever arm shocks as the travel distance is different. You need a RHD steering rack. This is the same as a LHD Morris Minor Rack they tell me. Yes, the pedal box is a straightforward move, though the high beam switch will need extension wires IIRC... You'll need to make up new clutch and brake lines of course.... Mike "Mike & Kerry Gigante" 952... MORE

I thought that before finishing my interior restoration on my bugeye that it would be a good idea to lube the driveshaft u-joints before I put the carpet over the access hole. I am able to see the lube nipple, but with the lube gun that I have there is now way that I can lube it. My grease gun has a straight portion of about 2" at the end of the flexible hose, and the nipple goes off at about a 45 degree angle in the other direction. Is there a special tool that I need to get... MORE

Hallo outthere, I've got a frogeye that I would like to use for racing sometime in the future and for that reason I would like to upgrade my brakes. I know that it's possible to fit the front disk brakes from the later spritgets, but are there any other improvments that are worth while looking at? Thanx in advance, Jens jens_of_copenhagen@... 950... MORE

Hi, Having just completed a full carpet and panel refurb, i can offer some first hand advice. For the throttle pedal I found that with a bit of care all you need do is make a single cut in the carpet, so that the leading edge of the pedal sits flush to the cut edge. Then with a lot of knuckle scraping you will be able to push the carpet fully home around the rear of the pedal making for a tight and almost seamless fit. It does look good but you have to get the cut right FIRST... MORE

I was wondering on how easy it is to convert one of my bugeyes from a left hand drive to a right hand drive (a bugeye to a frog eye)? I know you need a new dash, but can you just move over the pedals and can you just flip over the steering? I am sure someone out there has done the swap. Any one? Thanks, Bob in San Diego "Robert D. I'm putting new carpet in my bugeye, and have a couple of more questions. 1) The carpet that was in the car was cut out around the gas pedal. I was considering making holes for the bolts and installing the gas pedal on top of the carpet. Has anyone tried it this way? 2) Do the seat belt anchors go on top of the carpet - mine had someone way and some the other way. I can see advantages both ways? 3) I'm putting an insulating mat under the carpet. Under the drivers seat, will the seat still slide... MORE

I've been converting a Minor release arm to use on my wife's car when it gets the hydraulic clutch. Problem is that I have since found a different Midget-type arm that is the same length as the one I took off my Sprite but has the pivot drilling at a different position, thus giving a different length between the pivot and the point where the pushrod pin sits. Obviously this also means there is a different length between the pivot and the centre of the carbon release bearing. Any ideas which one is correct and what the other one... MORE

Ahoy Spridgeteers, I have been led to belive that the '63 Sprite with disc brakes had a 3/4 inch bore Master cylinder (shared resevoir), as opposed to the 7/8 inch bore for drum brakes. My question is, can anyone tell me what length push rod goes in the 3/4 inch bore master cylinder? I've seen short ones and it appears that someone has brazed an extension onto one of the rods that came on my car. I want to order new ones if they need to be short, but I can't seem to determine what length goes in the... MORE

Folks: My MG Midget's master cylinder stopped pushing brake fluid to the rear right wheel cylinder. This dual line master cylinder contains a two part piston setup ... separate, but connected using a long, narrow metal loop. Upon removal and disassembly I found that the metal loop holding the front plunger to the back plunger (with a roll pin through each plunger to hold the loop in place) has broken. I need a replacement part ... and this piece doesn't come with a master cylinder re-build kit. Does anyone know where I could obtain this piece (the cylinder is... MORE

Need to bleed the hydraulics on my 1960 sprite and was wondering if bleeding the clutch from inside the passenger footwell is really the best/easiest way to do it? Also, since I'm replacing all of the hydraulic fluid, do you do the clutch or the brakes first? Thanks rlirwin@... 877... MORE

Hi everyone, I was able to use advice from the list and George Merryweather at Classic Restorations to lower the idle from 4500 down to 2500. Evidently the choke linkage was to tight on the choke cable so was always pulled(the cable probably needs to be replaced or at least lubed, as is hard to actuate) so I completely disconnected it. Now I believe it to be just a synch problem, what do you think? Plus need to adjust mixture still, have experimented but I think I need to go over the manual on that still. It was not... MORE

Anyone help me on this one? The car is a 1972 1275 RWA midget. It has 165x13 tyres on wheels that are marked GM and 5J13 with the letters AZ stamped in them. They have a date code of 1978. The wheels have a hole in the centre of 58mm into which is snapped a chrome wheel centre with an MG badge on it. Whilst similar to the Rostyle they are silver all over. What are they? I need some more wheel centres, will the MGB ones fit this wheel? Whilst on wheel centres I have two types one... MORE

Still restoring my 66 midget. Looks like I will be able to give it the "blue hood" and carpets Heritage Trust says it had (Riviera Blue). Thanks to all who provided info and leads over the last 8 months. NOW, I need some more help from the experts. I have replaced all new brake lines and fittings (Moss). I also had the (twin) master cylinder refurbished (Apple Hydraulics). The problem now is that I have a leak at the junction of the brake line and the cylinder. No problem on the clutch side. I have tried bending the brake... MORE

Can anyone get for me the part number of the rear cylinders for the frogeye? I think I am looking at a cylinder with a 3/4 inch internal bore (against the Minor 13/16 or 7/8). I have some with Lockheed 84946c, or similar, cast into them and am wondering if they are frogeye ones. I need some with a 3/4 bore for the 8-inch rear brake kits and have not been able to locate the source of the only 3/4 i've got. Any Lockheed 90323 ones would be great as they also have a bleed niple cast into them.... MORE

Got photos of the 8-inch rear and 9 inch front brakes for the spridget, if anyone is in an 'anorak' mood. 9-inch front JUST fits inside an early (frogeye etc) wheel rim. Need to find an A35/Frog stubaxle etc to trial fit it. Anyone near Cardiff? Rear brakes are already on a spare Midget casing, ready to swop over on my '72 when I change the axle to get a lower diff ratio. Not so messy to change the entire axle and less chance of getting oil leaks. "rob thomas" 728... MORE

Jim My personal preference would be to go the 5-speed route. that's what I did and after two seasons have never regretted it. A 5-speed will simply make your car more driveable. And quieter. It won't make other parts seem poorer in comparison. Since you already have disc up front you're in good shape for braking. Sticking with the 4-speed will have your Bugeye sounding like a bezerk sewing machine at 70mph. Should you decide to stick with the 4-speed, I don't think you'd be looking at 2-3 year periodic rebuilds. clearly the Gold Seal box will be worth... MORE

Jim Your thinking is about right the rib case box you have should be fine for now but any aggressive use with a good 1380 engine can break them, the five speed option gives a strong reliable set up and gives an overdrive top gear of .82 : 1 this equates to a drop in revs of just under 20% in top compared with the old rib case, as for strength we are now running cars with around 200bhp and not breaking them. As for suspension and brake upgrades if you are going to do a lot of miles... MORE

Jim It really depends on the spec of your engine. I do suspect however that you will end up breaking your 1275 gearbox - they aren't designed to put up with the torque of a 1380... I can't advise on which 5 speed to run as I have no experience with that type of conversion however your gearing will depend on what the 5th gear ratio is. Most 5 speed boxes have a 1:1 4th gear and an 'overdrive' 5th. This means that you will probably be overgearing your car (and thereby losing performance) with a 3.7 - suggest... MORE

I'm redoing the interior on my bugeye and would like to reduce the noise if possible. I had planned to put a 3/8 inch felt pad with a foil backing under the carpets, but don't know what to use under the vinyl panels. Any suggestions? Also, I had planned to use snaps wherever I can on the new carpet (under the seats, footwells, and gearbox tunnel). I guess I'll have to glue the small pieces on the exposed portions of the frame. Has anyone tried anything else that worked well? I'm looking at a complete restoration when I have... MORE

Once again I am looking for the collective wisdom of the List. In other words I can't make up my mind (once again) - What type of trans(gearbox) should I put into my rebuilt 59 Bugeye. Currently I have a Gold Seal ribcase (by Unipart -1983) that has never been installed (or out of its original crate) - everything inside the case is brand new (NOS?), including to packing grease. So the gearbox should work as well as any new ribcase can. BUT because I plan on doing so much freeway driving in So Cal (70mph in slow lane),... MORE
