Brake pedal does not 'return' when applied. Brakes firm - no sponge and does not sink to the floor. No evidence of fluild leakage at master cylinder, down pedal bracket or on the outside or inside of the wheels. Large resovoir fluid is clear. Smaller one is muddy. :~( Austin 1974 MG Midget - England 1977 MG B Roadster - Florida http://photos.yahoo. com/pete rene austin Midget1974MG@... 11486... MORE

Right on! I'll have to "second" the note by Jeremy Cogman on rollbars, though I dislike aesthetically what it does to the "lines" of the Frogeye. My Frog came with a bar welded in place and it serves the triple purpose of not only protecting the upper body "in the event", but torsionally strengthens the body (anti-flex) and allows me to attach a "windblocker" (rainblocker, if you will) which allows for more top down fun in less extreme weather conditions. It also allows for easy pushing of the car without using the windshield posts (soley) for this purpose while... MORE

I've just acquired some lovely NOS AH stamped hubcaps for my mk2 Sprite. The ratty ones on there at the moment are, I belive the originals and the AH stampings are filled in with body colour (ish) paint. The new ones are unsurprising not, so you can fill them in with the colour of your car...I thought. I had a quick look in Horler to check that they should be painted and as far as I can tell every picture that shows them, shows them unpainted. Is this as original, or because all the cars show are 'concours' and... MORE

The Haynes manual is very good as is the factory manual. Factory manuals come up quite often on ebay for not much money. Where are you Virginia, in the US the Robert Bentley Manual is also spoken of very highly but I've never seen it myself. It is available in the UK, I think I've seen it in Foyles. Water pump change is not difficult only fiddly insofar as you have to remove the radiator to get access. Hardest part is probably relocating the four rad mounting bolts which requires a bit of patience. Jeremy '63 Sprite Hampshire "Jeremy... MORE

Out of the twelve times I've been its rain (I mean RAINED) about 50% , so always pack the water proofs and a good hat. Golf umbrellas look crap (its motorsport, not golf) and you can't move in the crowd/ stands/ woods/ campsite etc. PLUS a good cover for the frog as the sidescreens don't cut it when its windy !! Reminds me of the occasion late one night with someone hard on my tail when, on exiting a roundabout (at high speed of course) and flooring the throttle, the engine died on me. A fairly long flame shot out of the exhaust, lit up the car and the worried face of the guy behind as I watched in my rear view mirror in case he hadn't twigged I was in a spot of bother and rammed me up the backside! I needn't have worried as I think it might have been obvious. It turned out the distributor had jumped... MORE

How to give Cat/Dog a pill... CATS: 1. Pick up cat and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow. 2. Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process. 3. Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away. 4. Take new pill from foil wrap,... MORE

Dear listers, Last week, I mentioned a catalogue that had a Monty Python articulated action figure listed. I loved all the STUFF in the catalogue and figured there are enough "twisted" minds on the list that might also enjoy it. I have no interest in it (Usual disclaimers). It is called, "Things you Never Knew Existed.....And other items you can't possible live without." Here is a short list of some of the things listed. Magnetic Flames to put on the fender of your LBC for a special impact that come off. Also works well on family station wagons. A... MORE

Check the archives for many debates on this subject but basically: Silicone: Lasts longer, doesn't damage paintwork Ordinary: Better brake pedal feel, cheaper, easier to bleed. If you want opinions then I'm for a firmer break pedal and easier bleeding any day of the week. The advantages of silicone are easily replicated with glycol by being careful and changing fluid yearly. "Jeremy Cogman" 10666... MORE

all.. have rebuilt my entire braking system and am now faced with the choice of silcone or regular brake fluid. advantages of the newer fluid are obvious (e.g., no water absorption), but i've heard that the internal rubber parts don't like it much. true? advice needed. thanks ken horner "pblock4x4" 10643... Yes, Alan E-J- Churchill said, "Never have so many owed so much to so few". Well, of course this is true however, it is the public at large who were also the heroes, "unsung" as their stories they may have been!! "My people" should take this page from history and "recall" the gutsy average Englishman (woman) when the proverbial "sh-t hit the fan" in your country so terribly some 50 years or so ago. Cap'n. For those of you who are into narrowboats as well as cars, this week-end. (May Bank Holiday) we should have quite a few of them in our village. The River Slea runs past the bottom of our garden, and just recently the water authorities have been allowing the water level to rise, which is usually an indication that they will be here!! Hi all, I am just about to replace a rear hub on my Mk 1 Midget and need a bit of advice; one of the wheel studs came loose and gouged the rear brake cylinder and I have to replace it too. Hi, Paul- Don't think we are talking the same problem here, Paul. The DVG engine application "problem" is a flat spot in acceleration, from just "off idle" to entry of the "main system"; in other words, it's a "progression" problem. Is this the problem you are experiencing with the boat? Or, is your's a steady state "surging" (which could be a lean "upper" idle jetting fault needing a smaller air corrector for the upper idle range or maybe just a larger idle fuel jet by .05?). The DVG set-up sits a bit further from the exhaust manifold on the... MORE

Doug- Ahhh; that's better!! You jetted "up" after removing the manifold water heating. Now it all makes sense! Obviously, you did the right thing. And, your mileage is still good. Excellent!! :) Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 10489... MORE

Doug77- Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention I had a similiar experience as you describe with my '77 Fiat X1/9 using (I believe) a 28/36 DATRA. (Removing water heating from application from "stock" set-up for greater power potential of cooler induction air.) This also came with a water-heated intake manifold. Then again, come to think of it, removing the water heating was part of an Al Consentino "upgrade" wherein jets were supplied in a kit wherein the carb was jetted "up" (richer and "more") to be compatible with the resulting "colder" induction air. The end result was... MORE
