I have a '66 midget, currently having a new floor, boot floor and back panel welded in. I also have a new bonnet to go on. Its currently red, but since it needs a respray I want to have it done in dark-BRG. I can do some of the preparation myself (removing fittings, bumpers, screen, door-handles, etc.), but I'm not going to be any use sanding down or spraying and-so-on. I will also clean-up and paint underneath: remove old underseal, wire-brush axle and paint, etc. beforehand. I can also fit everything back on afterwards (although this sounds very scary... MORE
for one thing the 'copper wire' was not a wire. It's a hollow tube that 'use to be' pressurized. You temp gauge is now useless. :-) It WAS a mechanical gauge not electrical. Paul Tegler ptegler@... www.teglerizer.com Paul Tegler 3494... MORE
This was exactly the same problem I had but mine was in a newly rebuilt engine so I don't think that sludge build-up could be the cause unless FM Sportscars did a bad job which I 've no reason to believe they did.See following re my solution. On a different note I need some bodywork repairs doing and as I don't have the use of a garage I am looking for a reliable trustworthy bodyshop in the Northwest,I live in Wigan so if there is anyone out there with experience of rebuilders in the Wigan,Bolton,Preston and surrounding area please... A couple of Aggies in rural Texas are out in the woods when one of them falls to the ground. He doesn't seem to be breathing, his eyes are rolled back in his head. The other Aggie whips out his cell phone and calls 911. He gasps to the operator, "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator, in a calm soothing voice says, "Just take it easy. I can help. First, lets make sure he's dead." ...There is a silence, then a shot is heard. The Aggie's voice comes back on the line. He says, "OK,... MORE
Hi list, Here're some simple questions concerning my GAN3 (MKII Midget, 1965) resto-project (remember the car is in bits and pieces, engine and gearbox are out). I think most questions are related to "some advice wanted" from experienced people: - Should I replace the spigot bush? How to determine if it's necessary? - How to see if the spring-boxes need attention? Should I open the rear bulk-head to see if the spring-boxes need attention? - How to prevend rust forming between two spot welded pannels? (for example floor to sill seams) - How to prevend rust at the edges... MORE
Might as well put in my two pennies If switching on some equipment makes the taco behave itself, it could be that this is lowering the voltage slightly or reducing the AC component coming out of the dynamo or alternator. The taco will take very little power and hence place almost no load on the dynamo or alternator. To lower the voltage try feeding the taco power through a light bulb, a 5w side light should be OK. To reduce the AC try a capacitor from the taco power feed to earth, not the wire from the distributor. These... MORE
Dear listers in the UK, After the rave reviews I got from the UK group after I mentioned I say Eddie Izzard on TV recently, I thought I would ask for some of your opinions of one of my favorite shows over here....... Junk Yard Wars. I just love that show. Is it on TV over there on a regular schedule? o Over here is only on cable and there seems to only be about 10 shows and they keep repeating them over and over. When are they going to try and build (here comes the Sprite content) a... MORE
Hello everyone When driving my car the tach shows an idle at 1500 and it sounds like 1500. Now I know that it is not that it is out of tune because I just had it colored tuned this last spring and it was done right. It seams to me that the throatly cable is sticking, I can go under the bonnet and with a screw drive push on the metal wing that is against the heat shield in the middle of the carbonators, and the idle goes from 1500 to 1000 and smooths right out. How can I... MORE

OK thanks for the info I know this may sound funny and elementary but have you removed and then replace your spark plug wires lately. I made the mistake once and put one of the wires on the wrong plug and I got the same kind of response from my motor like you are having. Jason "Jason Gross" 3035... MORE

Keep adding the 2 cents worth .... here's my two penn'orth .... For your information (but not to annoy), what was (but is not any more) the largest fleet of 'privately' owned Range Rovers (32 of) in the UK hasn't used anti-seize on spark plugs from 1971 to date, neither did I when I owned mine. When I sold that (no 48 from production line with limited slip centre diff), it was 22 years old with the original engine and heads - but it did have new unlubricated plugs that were changed at service intervals. It did not have... MORE
Hi all, Many thanks to Cpt'n Bob and all of you for the helpful replies to my misfi re problem. The coil has been replaced twice (I had guessed a crack in the coil winding could be opening up when hot). The Carbs are oversize SU's, with a special inlet manifold, and a stainless heat sheild. The fuel lines are well back from the exhaust too. My favorite is the Distributor. I will try to get this bench tested - anyon e know a place in the south (UK) that can do this for me? Thanks again. I would agree - except that David says he replaced the coil... Did it misfire prior to the coil replacement? possible I guess that the new coil is also faulty... (Lucas PoD etc etc...) Electrical connections/HT leads also worth checking... James "James Bilsland" 2999... MORE
David- IMHO I think you have more than one problem here, maybe! The stalling in hot weather seems related to fuel getting hot (vapor problems), which I have never had, even in highly tuned 1275 (100hp+) street engines; so why would your fuel get hotter than mine under similiar circumstances? Hmmm! Are you running a normal "heat shield"? Could you be more specific on the cold weather starting problem? It's cranking OK but not firing at all, or just on some plugs 'til it warms up? Is humidity a factor like it happens in dry cold weather as well... MORE
Sometimes it can be related to the springs in the distributor get hot and stretched out. Have the dist. bench tested. "Paul M McCalib" 2993... MORE
Hi all, My 1967 early Mk 4 sprite features a misfire when it gets warm, especially sat in traffic. I THINK it may be related to the non vacuum advance distrib utor. Has anyone else had a similar problem? It seems to go away when the e ngine cools. The motor is 1275cc, stage 2 head, and I think the distributor was modified for race (not my doing!). I get a very bad problem cold starting the vehic le which seems to improve when I replace the plugs and the rotor arm - but then gradually gets worse again... MORE
To All- Coming late on this "thread" as away on company "trip" for the last four days (and survived!! Again!! Amazing!!) I believe completely in RR sessions for "tuned" engines, as long as dyno operator is also a skilled engine tuner. There are dyno operators who know how to run a dyno, who are NOT tuners!! Beware the dyno operator who cannot seem to figure out why your mixture "drys out" under load/high rpm when fuel jets are known to definitely be in the "ball park"; such is a dead giveaway to a dyno operator who is NOT a... I think we got it liked tonight (I am having the last laugh now). Just for grins and giggles we installed the old control box on the car to see what would happen and the light flickered after the car started and stayed on until the car reached about 3000 rpm then it went out. we took the car for a quick (about 10 mins) and the light would go out at about 2500 rpm. Right now i figure that the battery needs to be charged and the contacts cleaned on the control box. Will charge the battery tomorrow... MORE
Hi there! Sounds like you have the same problem that I have had intermittently for so me years now with Ava, my Mk 3 Midget. (Some of you may remember my cries for help a few months back) Several reputable garages looked at my little Ava to try and locate the problem, but all said there was nothing they could do unless things went wrong while they were testing it. Finally, on the way home from the annual Classics on the Common at the beginning of July, everything went! And I mea n everything!! Everything, that is, except the... MORE

Both wires tested for good continuety fron the generator to the voltage regulator. tetsted the voltage regulator as best as i could (the haynes manual is not very good on the instructions as it dosent tell you what to do if the voltage regultor is it even close to the output they are looking for) we (my roommate was working with me) triped the 2nd relay and the...
