Ken, If you don't come up with one of these, you should be able to get a flexible line that will fit in any auto parts store that carries aftermarket gauges. If you don't like the flexible line, you should be able to find copper tubing to substitute (probably at a plumbing supply). The ends use compression fittings with the connections for the block and gauge. Gerard "gerardchateau" 11779... MORE

all see if any of you have this in your spares pile. i need the copper oil pressure line that goes from the engine to the rubber hose coupler. or the other end that comes from the gauge. either one will do. can't make the guage work with only 1/2 of the link. thanks.. Nope... and even if you could by means of adapter plates and whatever else you'd need, not worth the trouble, in my opinion because you'd still have a 4 speeed. C'mon, I mean how much do you need 1st gear for anyway. If you want to do a swap in an A-series car, go for the Datsun. Everything has been sorted out for you already. It's full synchro, 5 speed, the trans is inexpensive and much nicer than the 1500 gearbox. I put one in my '72 Midget last year and it's a real pleasure to drive, especially on... MORE

I have been pleased with the FACET electric fuel pump I installed on my 1959 Bugeye 1275 . I did add a pressure regulator between the pump and the carbs. CFickmour@... 11778... MORE

Home re-bushing for SU throttle shafts Some while ago I copied this from a web site - but cannot remember where. Apologies to the Authors, if they feel agrieved by my circulating it here. The original has some colour photos to illustrate the technique. Anyone interested, I can send off-list as an attachment and include the photos . Havn't tried it yet myself but it sounds good to me! I was wondering if anybody knew if you could swap a Transmission from a 79 1500 Midget with Synchro 1st and put it into a 72' 1275 Midget.. Just a thought, any Ideas or Comments? J "jrhaberern" 11746... MORE

"J"- The later engine/gearbox is a Triumph Spitfire deal and thus, basically not compatible. Of course, with enough money anything can be done and "be made" to work!! For far less in money and labor, why not consider a Datsun 5 speed? Then, "match" same with a regular 4.22 (for "quick") or 3.9 (for "normal" city/highway compromise) for less "go" and "easier" highway cruise, or even a 3.7 for the "tuned" 1275+ engines which are cammed for low/mid-range torque? "Blown" 1275's could go with a 3.55 and the Datsun box, assuming cammed for low/mid-range "grunt" (torque), The Datsun 5... MORE

Bound to be people here with knowledge way beyond mine..my 2 cents would be probably not. seems teeth count alone differs within the 1275's and would seem to be more than just a gear swap. However..been wrong more than once. Wait for the folks that know for sure. Sound good.. wish it would work. chuck n tx croche 11747... MORE

First of all, isn't the starter on the opposite side? The 1500 engine has the starter on the driver's side.... while the 1275 has it on the passenger's side???... that is why the kit's to put a Datsun 5 speed in a 1275 midget are not available for the 1500. -Brett "Brett LaCroix" 11748... MORE

When I retrieved the mail today, I found the following letter in the stack. The vehicle in question is my '72 RWA Midget with a fresh 1275 (about 900 miles) and a Datsun 5 Speed. I think I may have 'mis'-described the object. It had the hose that would go into the heater..going in (of course) to this water/anti-freeze/coolant holding container, that looked like a large overflow tank similar to those found on newer autos,..and a return hose out of it and back to the engine. whereas now I have hose out-back in, just eliminated the heater. The "idea" of having that extra bit of fluid (whatever the container holds) available and running thru the engine..that's my point or question. Waste of time? Or possible benefit? chuck n tx croche 11639... MORE

Bob, That't he engine number. There is no direct correlation to the chassis number, but it could be traced by that number through BMIHT if you really wanted to know and it is in fact the original engine. Gerard Can anyone add any info about the number in question "gerardchateau" 11598... MORE

Dowels are used for location and positional timing, they should be soft not hardened or they can snap like a carrot, The drive is actually transmitted from the friction between the crank palm and flywheel caused by torquing up the bolts , even though in theory there is clearance between the shanks of the bolts and the flywheel , but little or no clearance between the dowel hole and flywheel, Positional accuracy of the dowels is in the order of 0.001" (one 'thou.) I'm not sure if its the same for your motors but there were timing marks on... MORE

Mark Not sure there are too many bargains to be had in the UK, I suspect that most things are cheaper in the US (all to do with exchange rates) although recent posts indicate engine rebuilds are a bit pricey in the US ( but engines are hardly hand luggage). I am in Cambridgeshire, not too far (45 miles north from MK} and maybe could meet up with you (in the Sprite) depending on when you are in the UK since I like to drive the Sprite in France a bit in the Summer. Ted, I had a similar problem with a VW bug. I'd get the engine as hot as I could with a long highway drive, adjust the carburetor (lean) to where it would just run, arrive at the emissions testing station when they weren't busy so I wouldn't be waiting in line idling. It passed every time. Kevin '59 "Kevin Lewis" 11522... MORE

I need some help here folks. I have a 1974 Midget that has failed the Illinois emmissions test. The car tested high on hydrocarbons which is unburnt fuel. The legal limit is 800 PPM, the car tested at 1325 PPM.
