Like a kid in a candy store, I completed my trip this past weekend to DC to get various parts for my midget. Specifically, a 1500 engine, two trannys, and other peripherals that will keep me busy for a while. Curious to hear from 1500 owners who have opted to mount 1500 engines on engine stands for overhaul. My engine stand is the type with max weight capacity of 750lbs and 4 studs to hold the engine. Weight is certainly not the issue, but how to mount it to the stand is my question. What is the best way... MORE

OK listers, here's an unusual one. I am in need of a back plate for a 1275. After pulling the motor today to chase down a bad throwout bearing, I noticed a hairline crack near a back plate bolt. Removing the flywheel confirmed my suspicions, a crack clear across the back plate. I don't have a history with this motor, having received it in a parts car. It runs great and is in fine shape otherwise, but I think the motor may have been dropped at some point. Anyway, are there any suppliers that would stock a back plate?... MORE

Does anyone have any tricks that they have used for installing the dust seals and retaining ring for the disc brake caliper pistons. The instructions that came with the kit suggested using a special tool that doesn't seem to be available. Thanks Bob Irwin rlirwin@... 6904... MORE

Yes it is for 1275 and it looks in reasonable nick to me I paid 45 secondhand but then got another when bought new engine. I would be happpy to send it to you if you pay postage etc and then you could decied whether it is what you want and make me a fair offer Peter "Peter Whittle" 6875... MORE

Ah, but has anyone installed an A-series and ribcase 'box into a Miata... I might just do it to annoy the Mazda boys.. :-P "Grant Bowyer" 6870... MORE

Hi All, I have a question for those of you who are running after-market electric fuel pumps. Does an electric fuel pump need to have an internal or external pressure relief/sense cut-off switch, or is it ok that it runs non- stop as long as the engine is also? About the only thing I know of these pumps is that some are more expensive than others and the cheaper ones don't suck as well=85 so they should be located closer to the tank. Thanks, -Drew "drewminator2" 6865... MORE

Hey group,I need a non sleeved 1275 block and bearing caps for my project I've got 2 of the sleeved ones but I guess you can't do more than a 20 thou overbore and I want to build a 60 over motor. Can anybody help me out?I'm in Washington state in the USA.Thanks Steve "sharts5321" 6851... MORE

Maybe I dont ask to the list questions frecuently, maybe Im shy about my poor english language........but I read every single one of the questions and answers posted...and they are really helpful for me, actually many of them, same as the ones I could ask for...... But besides all, list, and listers are good companions for me during the hard days here.......... Tks to all of you !!!!! Keep LBC running all worldwide !!!!!! God and Queen save LBC!!!!!!! All I can say is "IT'S ALIVE, IT'S ALIVE!!!!" After fighting the oil leak I am finally driving my car. Mind you I am still keeping an eye on it though. There is no smoke and only one little drop of oil under the car in the morning which I attribute to it just being British, no offense. I believe it was a combination of things, but mainly the bad head job (take that any way you want to) I had a year ago. In checking the crankcase pressure I noticed hardly any at all, in fact, I could... MORE

"I am looking at replacing my exhaust manifold............" Sizing is important here, Jason. Too large a bore for the engine's state of tune will reduce rather than enhance performance. The LCB seems best all around for the daily driver street machine spending the majority of it's time below 5,000rpm. May I recommend advice in the foregoing respect and the "right" part from Advance Performance Technology (aptfast). Their prices are reasonable and they can have the header "coated" for long life and increased flow (for additional $$, of course). They also have a "large port" manifold gasket as well and... MORE

Hello to All I am looking at replacing my exhaust manifold with a performance exhaust header. My old manifold has seen better days so I think that it would be good to replace it with a nice header. The one I am looking at is in MOSS and it is part number 452-065 at 229.95. Now my 2 questions are 1 Is this a good header to go with? 2. Is do I have to pick up a special gasket or does this use the same as if it was the original manifold? Thanks for the help Jason "Jason... MORE

Graham True, the o-rings don't come with the rebuild kit - I didn't have a problem ordering them a couple of years ago. Try asking (in the UK at least) for o-rings for the 12" wheel Mini - the calipers are identical to Midget ones other than the mounting bolt holes... The pads are the same too so if you can't get uprated Midget ones order Mini (1980 onwards) pads. James "jamesbilsland" 6827... MORE

I was in awe when the list (Rick Fisk, thank you!!) came to my aid in finding the vacuum diagram for my GTO. I was talking to an old friend today about computers, he doesn't know how to turn one on, and their informational benefits. When I told him the story of the GTO and vacuum diagrams, he asked if I could find a wiring schematic for a 79 Trans Am wiper system with the intermittent wipers. So I am throwing my question into the ring. Rick, et al, could you help again please?? TIA, Brad Brad Fornal 6829... MORE

I think that it's probably a good idea to replace the front rotors and start with a good working system on my bugeye. The next question is how to get the front hub off the car. The book mentions a hub extractor and possibly the need for a bearing extractor if the back race stays on the spindle when removed. Are these actual tools that you can buy at an auto parts store, or will a rubber mallet work as well. Also, the book says that I need to torque the nuts that hold the hub on properly. Sounds... Bob, If the disk is worn, grooved or thinner than normal from being turned before, you should replace them. They're cheap enough that turning is probably not worthwhile. You can probably get them from your local auto supply like Kragen's, Pep Boys, etc., but if you have problems, I can get you a source. Since you'll have the hubs off to do this, it is a good time to inspect wheel bearings. Clean and repack them if they are good or get new ones if you're in doubt. Definately replace the grease seals. Gerard "gerardchateau" 6800... MORE

Bob, I completely agree with Gerard-REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE HOSES! These things typically rot from the inside out. Lots of us have had similiar problems, and found out later that the rubber inside the hose had rotted out, and left the debris in the hose-restricting the flow of brake fluid. Also, while you are doing this, get all new seals for all of the hydraulics-master, calipers, wheel cylinders, and do the entire system. Flush out the lines, and your brakes will be back to as new again. I consider brakes on our LBC's the most important safety feature, since... MORE

OK listers I need a bit of advice. The 69 MGC GT I bought a few months ago came with a spare engine. The engine currently in the car has spun a rod bearing so I'm not driving it right now now. As an added bonus it is the original motor :) so I want to rebuilt it to factory specs. I started tearing down the spare yesterday. This is where the advice part comes in: The DPO has never actually seen the motor run. I have completely dissassembled the head and cleaned the carbon deposits. I opened the... MORE

Bob, Well that's good. Remove the nut and see if you can draw up the adjuster enough to clear the pushrod. The adjuster won't come out through the top, so you'll need to see if you can clear the pushrod and screw it out the bottom. I've never tried this, so I'm not sure it's possible. crank the engine to the lowest part of the cam on that valve. Good luck. Gerard "gerardchateau" 6778... MORE

Hi folks, I've just come back from seven days away at my sisters to find out that the gas has run out brrrrr. Anyway, to the question. Not ideal to remove the valve gear without doing a head gasket but I've done it before and got away with it. "Jeremy Cogman" 6776... MORE

Bob, Depends on what's stripped. Is it the thread on the tappet adjustment screw, the nut or in the rocker itself? You should see if you can determine which it is. Which valve? Gerard "gerardchateau" 6775... MORE

While performing my first tune-up on my bugeye (1098 engine) I discovered that the valve adjustment nut and the adjuster underneath had been stripped, and the prior owner just left it. Is there any way to fix this without pulling the whole rocker arm assembly. My assumption is that if I take off the rocker arm assembly, thus loosening the head bolts, I will need to remove the head and replace the head gasket. I really hadn't planned to do this much when trying to do a simple tune-up. Thanks Bob Irwin rlirwin@... 6774... MORE
