Hello to All I am looking at replacing my exhaust manifold with a performance exhaust header. My old manifold has seen better days so I think that it would be good to replace it with a nice header. The one I am looking at is in MOSS and it is part number 452-065 at 229.95. Now my 2 questions are 1 Is this a good header to go with? 2. Is do I have to pick up a special gasket or does this use the same as if it was the original manifold? Thanks for the help Jason "Jason... MORE


I am probably giving you more information than you need, but on my 1973 Midget, the bolts holding the hand brake in place have nuts welded to the inside of the tranny tunnel with the screws installed from the cockpit side. You could get the correct size screws and nuts, then weld the nuts to the inside of the tunnel with either a TIG or MIG welder. Hello all My 1971 MG Midget has a lose hand brake. It looks like with out taking out the driver side seat that a bolt has worked it's way lose, and has disappeared. I have tried to stick my arm up the tunnel from under the car but with no success to reach were the bolt once was. Is there a way to fix this or am I just going to have to live with it? Spot on looks as though the engine vaccum was sucking open the butterflies against the internal carb spring. Now I have adjusted the limkage to make sure that the throttle springs are under tension at closed all is well with regards this. Problems now seem to be centered on leaking exhaust ( pulled apart for the second time) and the rev counter a new one (elliott 10k) which seems to be over reading and undamped. Since I last wrote, the 'madness' has subsided; I didn't buy a MG Metro Turbo and have given up the idea of a spridget turbo, it seems quite complex, and other more worthy folk have done it and been there already. Two things tonight: 1) I keep seeing someone using my subject in their title (Rick's '73 Midget (As the Midget Dribbles). This doesn't upset, bother me, etc, but it does confuse me when I try reading the messages looking for replies to my postings. Well I did the cylinder leak check tonight with a tester I made from instructions on the internet.(www.xs11.com/tips/misc/misc3.shtml) These are the results I obtained with the gauge set at 85 psi before plugging it into the cylinder. The reading I got while hooked up is below for each cylinder. It seems my poor old compressor just ain't compressn' the way it use to! Ok, I have finally come to my senses and will try to locate to problem and fix that rather than treat the symptoms. Several individuals have mentioned basically said the same thing, so I am going to perform a leak check and compression check. I will pass this results on once I get them. I ran a mild steel single-box exhaust on my 72 for a while (well, till it rotted out, actually). Sounded great: when the car was cold, it would even set off the alarms of parked cars as you accelerated past. I'm with beckers on this one. It sounds like the rings haven't bedded in at all *or* you have a breathing problem. A few questions for you: a) do you have a venting oil filler cap? b) does your rocker cover have a vent pipe? c) does the timing cover have a breather? If the answer to either a) or b) is no, then I'd definitely start there. If the answer to c) is no, then that would also help. Mind you, that timing cover breathers are often blocked and that would be consistent with your problem. I think... MORE


Hello everyone Now this might sound a little silly but I have question about exhaust. I would like to make my 1971 MG Midget sound better. I would like to have that sporty sound. I am running right now the eagle stainless steel exhaust. Is there a way to modify this to make a more raspier sound. On my 1500 the rocker cover vents into the inlet manifold and I assume that it is assisted by a vacuum from said manifold, would venting this to a container/atmosphere be detrimental in anyway? Would like to vent to a container for neatness sake. AW "Andrew Worley @ Mi-King" 6117... MORE

Well so far, so good. I am still trying to get the right balance of crankcase vacuum to manifold pressure to stop the oil leak. At this time, it drips about 4 good drops when parked and I think I am getting it to be less. As a last resort I will pull the engine and re-seal the rear seal. A question I would like to ask is if anyone has modified their cars to use tube shocks. I see there are kits for this modification, but I want some good first hand advice before spending that kind of... MORE


I drove my Midget for over 45 miles today and enjoyed every bit of it. Well at least until my oil pressure gauge dropped to ZERO while zipping along at 50 mph. The problem was not too bad as the line from the block to the gauge split an it was squirting oil everywhere. After pinching off the line, I was able to get the auto parts store and purchase a kit and fix it. The oil pressure does pretty good as it idles at 55 psi cold and 35 psi hot with it being at 45 psi at... MORE

Hi, Jens- Cooper S was street performance version of 1275 incorporating "longer" cam timing (slightly higher lift, I think, as well?) and "big valve" 10 stud, one bolt (forward by thermostadt) head. Intake valve went to 1.48 which was as much as could be squeezed in; probably too much as area between valves frequently cracked. Better off with 1,4 intake and slightly larger than stock exhaust valve, but this is another issue. Compression ratio was about 9.5 rather than 8.8-1, if memory serves me well. Hello everyone. I recently bought a rebuilt bodyshell, where the transmission tunnel area is the only original metal. Everything else uses new, Heritage panels, and all appears well. The doors hang nicely with even gaps, and sitting there in the garage the shell appears to be good and straight. But how can I check this? There doesn't seem to be too much point in doing any work at all until I've confimed the shell to be true. All advice gratefully received. I saw a fellow at a Mini Mania swap meet in Milpitas 2 years ago who had a 2.0L Ford in a 72 or 73 Midget setup with a side pipe exhaust system, mid cam and a set of Webers. He did I real nice conversion... didn't cut any corners. And I can tell you from first hand experience that the 2.0L will walk all over the 2.3L anyday, I drove both. Dual HS6's on a 1500 are way big! You'll have a rough time keeping the FA velocity high enough for proper burn. Do you mean HS4's (1.5" throats) HS6's are 1.75" throats. Two 1.75" throats will feed a 6 cyl nicely. Yes...the mount pattern of the HS6 is a square mount not an oval on it's side like a HS4 or HS2. So you'd need an adapter to fit them to a 1500 manifold.
