but just to stir the mud a bit more, don't forget American pipe threads (NPT) are different from BSP.......... "David Jacobs" 16890... MORE

Bill B says it is a 1/8 inch pipe thread and is available as a shiny steel plug. Fits. Hurray. Little bit of Teflon tape to assure the fit and ease of future disassembly and I am back in business. Ah the old BSP thread trick eh? (refer to my previous Email) 0.383" O'DIA and 0.357" PITCH (28 TPI) metric conversion = 9.728 mm O'DIA. So how did the experts come with 11 mm ? I just can't find any info on 11mm threads at all and I've been designing stuff in metric for the last 20 years or... MORE

What's all this talk of "desmogging?" I've been reading the past posts, but cant seem to put two and two together. I gather you're discussing plugging the spot on the intake manifold that, on my car, has a small rubber tube that goes off to someplace i haven't traced. Why? I dunno, Bree... It's all very strange!! }:(-< I "tune in" today and review the mails (er, males?) and I find about a zillion (ok, 10) about Larry Macy's move and what to get him as a gift....which boils down to a large phallic symbol to be mounted in his driveway or front yard and if this is not available, we get him a flesh colored condom hat (topped off with a stylish French Tip, no less!), which even I admit will go very well with his scarf. A pipe, filled with the latest and greatest from Colombia (or... MORE

BSB is that similar to BSP British Standard Pipe thread.? Also used with BSPT, the tapered version . Probably only seen on oil coolers. Regards Alan "Jones, Alan" 16808... MORE

Guy, I've done that before also. It is easy. Only drawback is doing on a car that has 40 years of accumulated gunk in the tunnel. Mot a problem for me as by the time I get to that stage, there isn't any debris in there anymore. A plastic bag as a sleeve over the arm will make the rest of the job less messy. Hi Chaps! Took the Midget out on the road for a test drive today after a year- long mechanical rebuild (rebore, pistons, etc ). All seems to work OK, although I really shouldn't have painted the exhaust manifold! Drove proudly around for a couple of miles getting used to the new single-box exhaust note with the bonnet (hood) removed to let the remainder of the paint burn off the manifold. Felt a bit less proud when a little lad said to his mum, 'Oh, what a poor car'. Anyway, one peculiarity I'd welcome some help on. Having checked the... MORE

Well, Jorge- Now I get the picture...so much for a hung up or sticking throttle cable I have never had an engine wherein I kept the emissions systems. These came (same as your's, most likely) on my PO'd '74 and I removed them entirely, replaced the oil and fuel caps with vented ones, cut the restrictors on the carbs, and vented the crankcase to atmosphere through K&N filters from valve cover and timing case flame arrestor. Of course, the air pump on the exhaust side went also along with the charcoal element cannister for fuel vapors and engine crankcase... MORE

Ryan, You're one up one me! I only have a chiltons import manual dated 1976. Unfortunately my car is a 78. LOL! Look in your moss motors catlaog at the ZS auto choke unit (page 88 part #20) and see if it looks similiar to the choke on your car. that should tell you if it's origional or not. Mine has been converted to manual choke, but still has this part of the auto choke. This was the source of all kinds of headaches for me. If it doesn't look similar, check your float level! does the tail pipe... MORE

black, black smoke most of the time. I just put a whole new exhaust system on, and within days it had a think coating of black soot on the inside. I suspected the carb "ryanmill1" 16506... MORE

Bradster- Capitol idea on Williams behalf ( spridgets@... ). While he knows about the ZS carb., I think DLancer has got a DVG currently on his 1500. He's also got a 1.5SU set-up and manifold for it but has not done the conversion yet. Larry Macy may also have done the double SU conversion and should know a bit about the ZS as well. Bela was the last one on the yahoo midgetsprite list to have a ZS problem I think which included an apparent vacuum leak along with the proverbial stuck (on) autochoke. Cap'n. Bob (Ret'd) '60 Frog... Right on the money Bob! I want a daily driver that will be able to jump on the interstate and cruise flawlessly, or run down to the parts house to fetch parts for the truck, or whatever. I'm not interested in a racer right now. The last one I built was just too damn scary! For a driver that is... So I' interested mainly in low end and mid-range performance. The ZS on my 1500 is the 150 I think. The throat meaures 1 3/8". Which I believe is the 38 mm carb. It uses the smaller diaphragm in... MORE

no, they're definitely NOT a metric flare nut. It's a UNF thread. (but still be careful when undoing them - they can seize so you end up twisting the end off the solid pipe) Regards David "David Jacobs" 16457... MORE

mark, I was wondering about doing that swap! I have had great success with Mikuni side draft carbs on my Honda 750's. Do you have any contact info for the manifold, or pics of the swap? I would love to know more about the Mikuni swap.... But until then... I had also toyed with the idea of a pair of Rochester Mono-jets. I have to find my Rochester book and see if I can dig up the CFM properties for them though... All in all I just want to be riz of the Zenith Headache! Beladona 78 MG Midget... MORE

Given the choice, i'm probably a "drive it guy," trying to enjoy the car while making it last. (heck i replaced the big heater air-duct under the hood with a piece of 4"clothes-dryer exhaust tubing, which works well, so i'm not really trying to get it to "factory specs") This little sliding pin in the "brake warning box"... does it also function as a shut-shut off when half the system goes out to prevent further fluid and braking loss, or is the "shutting off" i have experienced just a coincedental consequence? If it is made to shut-off half the... MORE

asuming the advance springs are anything like correct, something else must be restricting the motion of the points' rotating baseplate - the connecting wire maybe? With the cap off, can you move the baseplate by hand? Does yours still have vacuum advance as well? If so, that can be checked by the usual sucking on the pipe method! (I also have a 45D fitted to my 1380 A series - it came from Moss UK as a 'performance' item and as it is one of the later designs, it has the sliding points which are supposed to last better/wear... Actually, I was thinking of adding a rare specialty carb for a chevy. I just happen to have a couple lying around. It's a Holley, but it is built as a Quadrajet replacement. It has the float between the primary venturi instead of twin float bowls fore and aft. At 450 cfm it was meant to increase gas milage on small v-8s. I may have found a manifold that will accept the carb, but I'm not sure if 450cfm is too much. It can be jetted down, but there is little that can be done about the volume of... MORE

George Stronghilos writes: "After all this I may have to sell my Judson"! Well, George....maybe! But, I can only go by the experience of others along with my own and advise I was heavily into the Judson application and it's success. Without at least a water/ meth. delivery system, my experience (along with those of others) tells me it's an uphill battle on today's pump octanes. Racing fuel is a different matter. I even had an engine built for the Judson. I just installed my new Rivergate 1293 and it runs just beautifully. Very smooth and very strong even... MORE

LOL, Alan... Not a matter of leisure time at all. When I get interested in something, I really get interested and as a pilot, I know how to "focus", man!! :):) Super/turbo charging IS a project, Alan and it will pay to do your homework in this respect and know the whys and wherefores of what you are getting into before you go there! It did take some time to write it out on the screen but the thoughts took no time at all! They just came pouring out as a product of "BTDT" in terms of supercharging and... MORE

at a guess, I'd say it was sucking air in somewhere else, too - worn butterfly spindle/bushes, or poor seal at the manifold joints? or possibly the air valve piston thingy is sticking a bit and not dropping down fully. Regards David "David Jacobs" 16216... MORE

hmm, it depends when in '68 it's from, as it was during the year that the crankcase ventilation system changed from routing into the inlet manifold mounted valve, to the ventilated carburettor system, with the hose going to a 'Y' shaped fitting between the two carbs. Hmm- The local Volvo pre-owned lot had a 1959 restored Bugeye in Leaf Green (new Black Interior) for sale here last year. Car was totally restored, new paint and rust-free. Floors and undercarriage were solid. Had a retractable antenna in the trunk and new tires, new rubber and painted wire wheels in excellent condition. The windshield was new and frame in excellent used condition as was the grille and other chrome. The top and tonneau were new along with used side curtains in excellent condition. Everything was in excellent shape. The original engine was freshly rebuilt and ran strongly.... MORE
