Hi everyone. I have a '79 Midget 1500 which I have been working on getting roadworthy for many months. Car has orig. ZS150CD4T carb with water choke, first the history: Cleaned out tank All new rubber fuel hoses New mech fuel pump carb has had basic rebuild incl. gaskets, cleaning, new gross jet, choke made operational, new decel bypass valve(which did not work so now holes are taped off) manifold is tight, not to mention everything else, tune up, timing set, etc. Problem: Car starts ok, will idle fine, I have let it idle for a 1/2 hour at a time. Revs up ok.... MORE
I have found one in Ottawa for sale, but this is a long drive from SF, California (42 hours, no breakdowns). If anyone has experience buying a car across the country and getting it home perhaps that is worth a new thread. Hi steve I went to Winnipeg for my Bugeye, about 20 hours from Racine Wi. no mishaps or storys though. If you would like some giggles look up on the team thicko mailing list and read the "ass part 1-5" had me crying from laughing at points. http://www.team.net/archive/team- thicko. Wow, what a great crew! I especially appreciate visualizing velour seats and their lack of friction. I propose a new event at british car meets... The Clydesdale Crunch. All contestants must be over 200lb to participate, and the winner shall be the one who enters a spridget on the driver's side, moves to the passenger side within the confines of the car, and exits passenger side in the shortest time. All this with velour seats and a hardtop. Points deducted for broken bits of trim. At 6'1" and 150lb it sounds like I will not have any problem. Great!... MORE
You filled the gas tank? completely full or you have a half a tank? If you have a full tank, disconnect the line from the tank side of the fuel pump and see if you have gas. (Should have a fuel filter in this area to filter the fuel before it gets to the fuel pump.) If not, you have a ristriction/plug between the tank and the fuel pump. If you have gas to the fuel pump, connect fuel lint to the fuel pump and disconnect line between pump and carbs. Turn on fuel pump and check to see... MORE
A UK spec one will have the engine painted black. I think emission control spec engines might have had a different colour rocker cover, but that could just be 1500s. The ancillary components are mostly all black too. The unpainted ones include carbs, alternator, cooling fan, distributor (not 100% sure about the water pump) the gearbox on the wiper motor (this could either be natural or painted silver?) I forgot to mention that the turn-signal switch is a manual toggle switch located in the middle of the dash, just above the ingition switch (actually power switch because the starter is a seperate pull knob.) As you are driving down the road and see the green light above the steering column flashng at you, you wonder "how long has the turn signal been flashing." Bob, Portland, OR "Robert Webb" 19985... The outer fulcrum pin hole at the bottom of the swivel pin is worn a bit large and out of round otherwise the swivel pin and bushings are very good with no play in the swivel axel assembly. Is it possible/safe to ream out the fulcrum pin hole and use a shim bushing to bring the diameter back down to the fulcrum pin diameter rather than go to the expense of a new swivel pin set? The screwed end plug and lubricator nipple was missing as was the fulcrum cotter pin along with the two spacer rings/grease seals. I... MORE
Ah.... That explains your shipping question to UK listers...I perceive. My Aldon distributor from England took less than 10 days but let's see what UK listers think. Bill Perry would know this as would Dave Anton....but let's see what others have to say.. All this negative written stuff can be erased or amended by additonal comments I presume, after the fact? Mr. Holmes. First, I find your comment comparing me to your dog very offensive. Second , I stand by what I said. The ORIGINAL (my capitals) 1920's method w as to Copper plate, then Nickel plate, then Chrome plate. Third, I state that the "Final finish is dependant of the preparation". I consider better press tooling and probably the use of more malleable or duc tile steel is part of the preparation for massed produced parts. For one off restoration of corroded parts then I still insist that the fina l finish is dependant on the preparation Fourth, I... MORE
Nigel... Let me tell you something, I wish to hell it was possible to run a Judson on today's unleaded premiums. I worked my tail off for 2 years to get this to work as did a buddy of mine who lives in Holland. Have been a member of the Judson List for more than a few years now. Based upon the promise of Delrin vanes from the USA Judson rebuilder, I even had my new Rivergate engine "tailored" for this blower. That's how much I was into this application. I figured with self- lubricating vanes, 2 stroke synthetic... MORE
Yuchol If I understand you correctly - you're not replacing the inner/outer sill? Are these both so good that you don''t need to replace them? Well you can - just weld them up and grind them off flat - then drill, holes in the floor pan and plug weld them through. I've just finished welding in the drivers side - RH floor pan and whilst I did plug weld through the flange that meets the inner sill, I also stitch welded across the top face of the floor flange. The other alternative is, as others have suggested - use... MORE
Hi, Nigel... This Judson is the American counterpart to the British Shorrocks back in the days when 100+RON leaded gasolines were readily available at the corner pump at reasonable prices. Neither of these "low pressure" supercharger applications were designed for anything but "temporary" boost operation. They are "torque" rather than "HP" applications...."stoplight drags" rather than "track", "temporary" operation rather than "constant" operation. Both were designed as bolt on intallations involving no more than a change to colder spark plugs, the idea being to temporarily superimpose a 6 psi boost curve upon the stock ignition advance curve for a temporary... Got my Sprite back from the sandblaster and received replacement floor pans this week. Toay, I spent what seemed like an eternity drilling out spot weld points and there's no end in sight. How can there be so many weld spots??? Plus, a big chunk of drill shaving landed on my face, a very hot one, and got stuck between my face and the glasses and gave me a good burn. Now my face is permanently scarred... Urrrggghh... Anyway, right side is almost all drilled but have question. How should I undo the welds between the floor and the... MORE

Would someone be kind enough to go and measure the width of the body at its widest point for me? My Sprite is at a sandblaster and I ran across couple of engine stands cheap that might work as rotisserie stand. My head is from a standard Metro (the 'Jet Black' special edition), rather than the MG. Losing the bypass hose is a definite bonus though I still have the failure of my plug in the waterpump failing. It's difficult to quantify these things but significant. When I first put it on I had a hand filed needle and even then the differen ce was noticeable, say somewhere between 15 and 25 percent. I probably gained another 10 percent once the car had been rolling roaded, my hand filed needle was a little lean at the top end. Engine is a 20 thou overbore 1275 with 9:1 pistons and a 276 camshaft with matched aldon distributor. Back then it had a standard midget head though these days it has a standard 1275 (not MG) Metro head. Carb... MORE
Bob Thanks for this - most interesting. I have also been looking at various carb setups to replace the existing 2 x 1 1/4, mainly I have to confess because a single carb is easier to set up, and tune and no need to balance the pesky thing - yeah I'm lazy ; ) I've looked at the Weber 45DCOE and 40DCOE, but for my application on a virtually stock 1275, I don't see the benefits. The setup I cam considering is the MG Metro carb - the SU 1.75 HIF on a decent manifold - that may well... MORE

Great news. My worries about some black trim around the wheel arches was unfounded. Went back and checked it out today. it was simply some after market trim that is easily removed with no damage. The good news is after installing a starter I happen to have, I was able to start the car with no major problems and it is running fine now. Took it out for a test drive. So I will be able to drive it home. Happy rwa camper. Don "Don May" 19388... MORE
Well I have sold the car, but it was a 1500, with a stock spec UK alternator, and as far as I know it was a standard fan belt. Couldn't get the straight 1/2" extension onto the plug socket, but worked fine with a plug socket moved with an open ended spanner. No problem! "Guy Weller" 19316... MORE
Went and did it. Just bought a 74 RWA. We all know owning a 74 rwa is more important than clothes, shoes and all that other stuff. So what if I will look like a homeless person driving a sport car. Problem now is getting it home. Had hoped to get it started and running enough to drive the 47 miles home but the reason it had set for a year is because the starter died and I did confirm that it is dead not just a sticking pinion gear. All the smog stuff is still on it or... MORE
