Hey, Guys: Going north to Newburgh to "intercept" RT. 84 East and crossing the Hudson at that point, Eastbound, is real fast and easy. The shortest distance between two points isn't always a straight line, in the air or on the ground! And YES, the "time" and "day" of the week have everything to do with this, in either "reality". In the New York City area, one must also take into consideration sport's events in "ground operations"! Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 10317... MORE

What Pilot Rob said. Start with 24psi in the front, 22psi in the rear and vary the difference until it feels right. For some reason modern motorists put 30-35psi in their tyres, this is unnaceptably high for a Midget. The highest I'd try would be 28psi, if you think you need higher pressures than this then you're doing something wrong and should start again at 22/24psi. Oh and air pressure is free, anti-roll bars etc arent. Good luck! Growler "Grant Bowyer" 10132... MORE

Dear listers, Please excuse the almost off color slant, but I thought this brief glimpse into the air transportation of Cap'n Bob, might be interesting to some of the rest of you. Cheers, Bob in San Diego "Robert D. Gardner" 10131... MORE

Paul- Be guided by the knowledge in Grant's post regarding the rear rollbar but "prove" it in a parking lot on a dry AND rainy day to your satisfaction. The rear bar "brings back" some of the "oversteer" removed by the "heavy" front bar so sudden "breakaway" can definitely occur. Tire, tread, compound and air pressure all bear on how "sudden" and at what point in "G" force this will occur. Try it with and without the rear bar and decide for yourself. Locating the back axle (side to side) with a Panhard set-up does seem like the best... MORE

Yep oil cooler mounted behind the air intakes under the big fat rubber bumper. Doug 77 Michigan Doug Pletcher 10070... MORE

Robert I can believe that. It seems that on the test bench it moves quite a bit of air but on the car it appears to be much less. The problem is I can't fit it as a puller on the 1500 the fan original fan mounting is in the way. Oh well off to Ebay. Thanks Doug 77 Michigan Doug Pletcher 10036... MORE

Mmm my thoughts too. If the fan is close enough to the rad (mine is about 1/4" away) then the air can't help but come through the rad but with a blower it's probably going to do it's damndest to not go through, the rad being a higher 'resistance' than the atmosphere. If you do have a kenlowe throw away their silly mounting kit (or add it to your useful junk box anyway) and fab some brackets to pick up off the fan shield if you have a v-flow rad. "Jeremy Cogman" 10016... MORE

Jeremy Not a silly question but it is connected correctly. Blows lots of air through the rad. It is set up as a pusher. When on you can feel the sir being pulled through the grill work. I don't really know why it won't keep the car cooler. Doug 77 Michigan Doug Pletcher 10008... MORE

Really silly question, forgive me, but did you check it was blowing the correct way i.e. pulling air from the front of the car to the back. "Jeremy Cogman" 9980... MORE

TURE ENOUGH!! Happend to me as well, fortunately I smelled the fuel and shut it down before anything went that far south!!!!! It is not a bad idea to check your hoses, reach under your air cleaners and feel for splits, do it once a week. You know, when you are adding oil..... Brad "Brad Fornal" 9991... MORE

Nope. No harm done. At best, you'll fill up the carberator float bowls and the fuel pump should stop running at that point. If it doesn't stop running after a few seconds with the engine off, look for leaks from the carbs. On the earlier cars, the carbs are located directly above the exhaust manifold and any fuel leaks drop onto a hot pipe causing less than desirable results. I'm not sure of the configuration on the 1500 engine. Curt "Curtis Carlson" 9960... MORE

I took the wheels to the blaster and had them blasted and the basecoat of pewter (silver) applied. Then, after they were dry (200 degree oven, 45 minutes), I masked off the black area using blue painters tape (same adhesive as 3M post-it notes). Then, instead of using the painters tape to cover large surfaces, I crimpled (?) aluminum foil around the large areas I wished to mask off. The Aluminum foil works well because it masks large areas, conforms to irregular surfaces, and has enough "grip" so it doesn't blow off in the wind from the paint gun.... MORE

I've never had a problem with the windshield fogging up. But when I redid the cooling system and put in a new heater and fan, I did hook up the defroster again (it only takes a couple of minutes to put in new hoses on a bugeye). I figured that if the engine started to heat up, I could get more air flowing over the heater element by putting the fan on without having hot air blowing on my feet on a warm day. Bob Irwin rlirwin@... 9856... MORE

How often does the windshield fog up with the top down? It does on those warm moisture laden days in hilly country, as you go from warmer to cooler air. Keep a chamois handy in the side compartment. This can happen very suddenly (but nothing that your hand can't clear rather instantly until you can get the damn chamois out of it's "can"!) Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 9844... MORE

CAR IS 1971 MG Midget 1275cc Hello Folks Well I just back on to see the list today and thank you all for the advice. But now I have a big problem Yesterday I got the oil changed and new filter, I also toped off the gear box with some new oil and everything was good. Today I go out to take a ride and it has a hard time starting, but she got going I roll down my drive way and then go to take of and nothing. The motor was going the tech was going but I... MORE

I have a new battery, and new cables for same. New plugs and coil, i hae not replaced the points , condenser, cap, rotor, yet. What happens, is , Riddingdown the road, running fine, suddenly Tach goes to zero, sometimes it jumps back up again, other times it just dies. At first i thought maybe fuel contamination or cloged fuel line or filter, but that doesnt seem to be the case. Seems like its electrical, but all other elcetrical systems work. BTW< I am in Baltimore, MD if anyone is in the area. Mark MarkAlanB@... 9818... MORE

The LBC was still not happy, running OK most of the time, but with occasional =93stutters=94. After reading previous posts, I checked the roto r arm more closely. It still looked OK on close examination, apart from being a very tight fit (this was mentioned, wasn=92t it?). The little bu***r got more cantankerous. Swapped the rotor arm and the car was fine. Tried mine in another car, and that wouldn=92t start at all. New rotor arm, and all is OK, and I=91ve now got a spare in the car So since Jan 2nd this year when I first had... MORE

You all may remember last week I was having trouble getting my Sprite to st art cold. Well thanks to Doug Pletcher, who so graciously helped me sort it out, realized that the choke was not fully engaging. I didn't have the pro per bolt holding the air cleaner and it was stopping the choke prematurely. Thanks to all for your advise. TimS '63 Sprite MkII Detroit, Mi "Summers, Tim" 9466... MORE

I've done this a dozen times with no problems, especially if the engine weight is already of them. A couple tricks are to use a coarse thread bolt and either a deep socket or a short spanner to wind or unwind the nut. I also a sleeve spacer or a stack of washers to offset any not needed extra length I have with the threads. This probably also reduces friction making the on and off process faster. I can get a pan on or off in about 10-15 minutes taking my time. Gerard "gerardchateau" 9387... MORE

I've not seen or heard either of them running , an they've both been standing , out a the car for several years. The engine... MORE
