Nigel, If I were close by I would certainly be happy to look at it. As a point of curiosity why are you re-wiring? My experience is that it's usually not the wire that is at fault rather oxidation on the connectors and that is a matter of cleaning and repairing wire ends that strands of wires have broken at connectors. Other than that there is the problem of previous owners adding and subtracting stuff then leaving strange unmarked or non color coded wires dangling about. In the electrical section of the Haynes and Bentley manuals there are wiring... MORE

I need to get a Workshop Manual that covers the '73 MG Midget with a 1275. The two I have, BMC and Ball and neither covers this Midget very well. Does anyone have a good one? What is it and where could I find one? Out of print I am sure. Bill French Hilton Head frenchww@... 17887... MORE

-Hi Nigel I am not an expert on this, as I only have the one experience with my bugeye. But let me share with you, and any one else on list that would like to hear some things. I purchased an interior kit from moss, when it came I was very disappointed in it. The grain on some of the pieces in the kit didn't match others, nor did the color. (Green) I toyed with the product for weeks before I decided to send it back, it just wasn't the quality I expected for the money (seem to remember... MORE

G'day Mark et al The first time I did a gearbox rebuild (maybe 30 years ago) I used a non-factory manual, and I seem to remember it was Haines. I ended up with 2 springs and plungers left over. Could have been my inexperience of course. But I later compared the manual I had used with the factory Manual and found them to be almost word-for-word ..... except for the entire paragraph missing about where to put these springs and plungers. I couldn't suggest more strongly that you use the official factory Manual, for this and any other jobs... MORE

Brad, Yes we can drive LHD cars in the UK. Most of the prototype minis I drive are left hookers destined for, usually, the US market. A guy a few houses down the street has an Ex california MGB , de rubber bumpered (de fendered?) but retained as LHD. Actually after driving several thousand miles in Continental Europe and the States I find that driving on the right is more natural, my LHD wife prefers driving her MGFon the left. I never thought about US spec tail lights until I bought some boxed repro ones from a show here... MORE

I still work in the Great British car industry. Owned MG , BL / Rover cars all my driving life. (Had a F**d Focus Ghia Co.Car for 12 months but that don't count 8o) I hate the idea of Brit cars being made in India , Taiwan, China etc etc It was bad enough when the Co. I worked for starting sourcing from the far East , the Quality went to crap , but it was lower priced. Hence the Co. I worked for has slimmed from 7000 when I started , to less than 200 personnel today.(I'm pretty... MORE

From: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/?news/ae_news_story.php?id=3D33139 The string-back gloves are off... MG Rover is aiming to knock its rivals for six with a sensational reinvention of the Midget. Inspired by one of the most successful cars the firm has ever built, the drop- top is aimed at the likes of the Ford Streetka and Smart Roadster - both of which were revealed to international acclaim last year. Other rivals include the forthcoming Volkswagen Polo Spyder and SEAT Tango, but, to guarantee success, it's thought the newcomer could cost as little as =A310,000 when it goes on sale in 2005. Measuring around 3.5 metres... MORE

Strange as it is parts are now less expensive and accessible for the do it yourself folks than they were in the sixties. Then about the only places to have a Spridget repaired or to buy parts was at the usually one local British Motor car garage and they were always ridiculously expensive compared to other garages. They tended to cater to high end cars and the attitude was if you can afford a Jag you can pay more. That left Spidget owners who had paid all of 1500 dollars for their car at the mercy of high end... MORE
