Wow!! How about that, Don! Fellow UK lister comes to the rescue. Great list, eh? Nice to be "wrong"!! :) Way to go, Ashley! Cheers! Cap'n. Bob (Ret'd) '60 Frog PilotRob@... 17083... MORE

Don- Gotta be an "economy of scales" matter with respect to mfg. separate slats, Don. Quality also is not what is used to be because when you think of it, had it remained so (before the price of basic "power" (oil) went way up) we could not afford (nor would we be willing) to pay 4 times what we used to when oil was <US$15.00 per bbl. It pays today to build "assemblies" rather than individual pieces in many instances, I guess, rather than both. PITA, obviously! The chrome Frogeye chrome bumperettes are nowhere near the quality of what... MORE

1) Does it sound like nuts and bolts rattling in the cylinders? If so that's 'pinking' i.e. pre-ignition and this can wreck your engine because it will generate loads of heat that can melt pistons and burn valves. It can be caused by quite a few things but a likely source is excessively weak mixture. 2)Is the exhaust noise from the engine bay or somewhere along the pipe. 3) You are right, a standard 1275 should idle at 1000 or a bit less. No A-series however highly tuned idles at anywhere aprroaching 3500. Again fast idle can be a... MORE

THE AFLUENCE OF INCOHOL I had 12 bottles of whisky in my cellar and was told by my wife to empty the contents of each and every one down the sink OR ELSE!! So I said I would and proceeded with the unpleasant task. I withdrew the cork froin the first bottle and poured the contents down the sink with the exception of one glass whick I drank. I pulled the cork from the second bottle and did likewise with the exception of one glass which I drank. I then withdrew the cork ftom the third bottle and poured... MORE

This is one of many humorous things I have in my posession. Most of them are over 30 years old, but I still find them amusing. There's nothing the matter with me, I'm healthy as can be, I have arthritis in both my knees, And when I talk, I talk with a wheeze, My pulse is weak and my blood is thin, But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in. Arch supports I have for my feet, Or I wouldn't be able to be on the street. Sleep is denied me night after night, My memory is failing,... MORE

Hi all, Just had a panicky call from my wife informing me that her brake lights on our 1500 don't work (her daily driver). Going to swing by Halfords on the way home but being at work and without my Haynes I have no idea what rating? Could anyone help? Also I'm aware that it could also be the switch itself that has packed up, does anyone have any diagnostic tips? Have to get this done tonight before she goes to work tomorrow or my life will not be worth living :-) Thanks in advance, AW Newcastle UK ****************************************************************************... Sounds as if you and I drive alike!! Fast on the open road when there is nothing else in the way, more sedately in traffic, cautiously in poor visibility and bad weather conditions, and leasurely in the Midget!! (except in the first condition above!) As for knowing when something is not quite right...... yes, we get to know the sound of our cars, be they classic or modern, and instinct together with experience lets us know. I was taught to drive with the attitude that all other drivers are raving lunatics...stay well away from them...if they want to pass... MORE

In answer to your question about aviation, I very much regret to say that my answer must be in the negative. :-( I always wanted to be a pilot, but due to a small problem with the differentiation of very pale red/green I was never allowed to sit at the sharp end of one of those rather beautiful machines that fly, at least, not in the services, and all the other jobs were a bit of a let down after that. One of the things that I have always wanted to do. A bit senior for it now. As... MORE

Mum has a black (with red trim) mk2 Midget which we have good reason to believe was black from new. Graham Paddy (co founder of the organisation that eventually became Moss in the UK) told us that there were a very few black factory cars. "Jeremy Cogman" 16945... MORE

Well I looked at my BMC body service parts list # AKD 3567 and can not find that the H AN5 was offered in Black (BK,1). But I have an Austin Healey Sprite Sales Brochure (publication No. 1590/B) that clearly shows a Black bugeye on the cover (cannot see the interior), BUT it only list exterior colors as: Cherry red, Leaf Green, Old English White, Iris Blue and Nevada Beige. It also shows a yellow car on the back page with the Specifications. I think this might be an early, lets say '58 publication ?? Bill French '59 Bugeye... MORE

^ _ _ ^ =o= ....zzzzzz...yeah, right! I'm trying to get some sleep here!! :( But I hear you guys... Pletcher and Houston are unaware that most knowledgeable cats (union types, anyway) are now using Dex-Cool in winter which is not only biodegradable but safe for animals, of which we are one! Further....a 50/50 mix injested before our nightly hunting forays, will allow us to stand temperatures well below freezing for extended periods of time.....which is not to say we use it year round. Extensive testing by our union, Cats United, has proven conclusively we run cooler in summer... MORE

I dunno, Bree... It's all very strange!! }:(-< I "tune in" today and review the mails (er, males?) and I find about a zillion (ok, 10) about Larry Macy's move and what to get him as a gift....which boils down to a large phallic symbol to be mounted in his driveway or front yard and if this is not available, we get him a flesh colored condom hat (topped off with a stylish French Tip, no less!), which even I admit will go very well with his scarf. Re the bonnet chrome strip (moulding). The last MG Midget to have this is a 1968 Mk3. The side chrome strips on the wings: the last car to have this is 1969 So a 1965 MG Midget Mk2 must have all the chrome strips. You can get the side chrome strips but you can not get the chrome bonnet strip (moulding) part no. 14A7074 but you are in luck I have the last one.
