Interesting point. The website http://www.mgcars.org.uk/midgetspriteclub/sprite/spriteaus.htm though lists YHAN 1 as bieng Australian. I have the heritage certificate somewhere, which confirms that it was a CKD kit. If you want more information, give Colin Dodds an email. I wasn't meaning to get into serious debate about this gun thing as whatever view I may have personnally, it make no difference to the outside world! - Bit like , "Lets have a vote to ban meteorites" I think you are right, but it is by no means agreed yet. Police can, and do carry arms, but they are only issued in response to specific, identified situations, and not carried by UK police as part of their normal equipment. Guy "Guy Weller" 16685... No debate intended Guy Weller, none at all. "Discuss", yes! Argue, debate, NO! Opinions are like...well! Everyone has one! :) I was simply curious, having read about UK authorities considering the arming of police about a year or so ago, in view of historical significance. Didn't know how this had turned out. Thanx for the update, GW! :) Cap'n. Bob (Ret'd) '60 Frog PilotRob@... 16687... MORE

I can't imagine BMC going against type, so it's most likely supposed to be a 3 synchro 'B' series gearbox, as fitted in MGAs, MGBs and countless other saloons of the period. I (or rather Neil Cairns on http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgccz/technic/codeseng.pdf ) can confirm that the 15F engine is the correct one for a USA spec Metropolitan. Regards David "David Jacobs" 16678... Anyone out there with a 58 to 66 Spridget needing one of the best books to work on it?? Go here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1872668656 goes off at midnight central time. I was out looking at yard sales today, and found a neat little box. It is 11" x 12 1/4" x 1 3/4" and appears to be made out of balsa or some similar type wood. The face of it has printing on it, the top says Classic British Automobiles. There are 5 cars on it as well. 1933 Bentley 3.5 Litre, 1948 Jaguar XK120, 'Out For A Jaunt' 1902 Wolseley,... MORE

Yeah, no problems Don, I'll delete my old photo's. Anyway, how about just 1 photo each of our LBC's with names, so we can put a name to a car or face if you so wish? Gary King (Newcastle UK) 69 Sprite MKIV "Gary" 16643... MORE

in the UK, you can find deals on entry level MG TFs (115hp 1.6) for less than 14,000 (around the same as a 1.6 MX5/Miata over here) and sometimes as low as 13,000 - just about scrapes under your U$20,000 limit. Food for thought? David "David Jacobs" 16576... MORE

It sure looks like the manual choke is original. I mean, the pull on the dash seems to be original, theres even a place where its slightly sunk into the dash (i dont know if theres just an empty hole there on the dash of automatic-choked cars) Dang, victoria-british ought to open a repair shop too...i might even buy parts from them if they did (they're less than 20minutes away, but i still order from Moss) I kind of hope something comes from that earlier post that asked *exactly* what suburb of KC i'm from (again, liberty, just in... asuming the advance springs are anything like correct, something else must be restricting the motion of the points' rotating baseplate - the connecting wire maybe? With the cap off, can you move the baseplate by hand? Does yours still have vacuum advance as well? If so, that can be checked by the usual sucking on the pipe method! (I also have a 45D fitted to my 1380 A series - it came from Moss UK as a 'performance' item and as it is one of the later designs, it has the sliding points which are supposed to last better/wear... Hi, 13 years ago I paid =A3200 for a Mk3 with a dented bonnet; fibreglass wings , one of which was ripped open; broken windscreen; no MOT or tax; but the engine was good, as was the rest of the body. Another =A3250 got her on the road. The overall condition then was what would now be classified as 3/4 by the MGOC. Perhaps this info. will give you a guide as to what to pay now. Incidentally, Ava had a Heritage shell rebuild 10 years ago, and is still going strong! Margaret South Lincolnshire (UK) mmbrock88@... 16411... MORE

Well I ended up drilling a couple of small holes in it and just broke it out, not too bad. Went on to the next step trying to remove the inner snap ring. Holy sh==. What a nightmare, I tried everything I could get my hands on, 2 different snap ring pliers, long needle nose, and whatever else. Was starting to think it was some kind of British joke. Finally took it over to a mechanic who got it out for me and to my surprise it doesn't look too bad inside the larger bore so I think it is do-able.... MORE

Not many chevys in Britain. I've used my Sprite for over a decade all year round for over a decade. You just need to be aware of the handling of rwd cars. Invest some of that grand in skid training. "Jeremy Cogman" 16362... MORE

Hi Steve, Regarding the roll over frame... At present I am using the roll-over design that is listed on Gerard's site (tech tips). Boy, it is a saviour on your back, and easy to work on at any position. Not too sure about the weight, my guess would be around 500 lbs for my Bug Eye Sprite. If you decide to take this route it does help if you re-support the rear section (where the rear wheel arches are) with a 2x4 along the edge of the vertical section (when the car is in the upright position). Hard to... MORE

Heyup I've recently bought a '77 1500 and it's in lovely standard shape due to a full rebuild about 10 years ago. My wife is using it to drive 30 miles to work every day and I'm slightly concerned about the state it's going to be in by the end of our horrible winter! Anyone got any tips for keeping it i n one piece through the constantly wet / icey / salted / mucky roads??? A g uy I work with suggested buying a grease gun to use on a nipple near the ki ngpins. Yup, take it to a glass fitter. I can turn my hands to most things but after many hours wrestling with my new mk2 Sprite glass & seal I have up and gave a local firm 50 quid to do the job. I could get everything in but the two bottoms corners. Removal was easier but it was still stuck in with years of old grime and I expect the fitter wiould not have charged much more to remove the old one. On a related subject I now get water creeping betweeen glass and seal at the top of... MORE
