I need a good working starter for a 1275 that I think is blown. Need to start with a compression check. The one in it looksgood inside, but turns real slow on the bench. Anyone got a good used one for sale or loan?? Hate to invest in a new one if the engine is shot. Bill French frenchww@... 22224... MORE

the best method is to get them balanced on the car - in the UK, Ford RS dealers had the equipment to do this as it was a particular point on Sierra Cosworths, but with the demise of that car, I don't know if they'll still have the gear. David "David Jacobs" 22123... MORE

Hello all: My midget has developed a slight fuel leak in the main line running under the floor boards. The shop (specializes in Jaguar and other British autos) I've made an appointment with to correct said leak, has given me an option of the normal metal or new plastic fuel lines for replacement. I was told that the two cost "about the same" and will work equally well as many new cars are using the plastic lines. What say you experts online? Does anyone have experience with the plastic lines? What are the pros or cons of this replacement?... MORE

Hello chaps I'm hoping this isn't a problem, but here goes. We took the Sprite (1967 Mk IV) out for a run this afternoon, and we got onto some nice empty country roads in Yorkshire. Two or three times, as we approached small villages, we had to slow down from 60-70 to about 30-40. Each time, as the speed was coming down, I heard several (it varied from one to about four) flatulent sounds from the neighbourhood of the exhaust pipe, almost like backfiring. My brother (who claims to know about these things, but drives a Mustang, so there... MORE

George, Couple of points: Tyres can apparently get "flat spots" caused by brakes being warped or out of "true" And, on complaints - I find letters work far better than e-mails - at least in the uk. For some reason e-mails are treated as ephemeral, and if not dealt with immediately, are unlikely to get a reaction later. A letter to the complaints department, including a footnote to say that a copy is being sent direct to the CEO is more likely to get you a positive reaction. (sorry if I am covering something aready stated, but I have... MORE

Does anyone have an idea where I might locate a master cylinder for a 63 Sprite? No luck with Moss or Victoria British. I ordered the rebuild kit but, I'm not sure that it's going to solve the problem. Is it possible to use the master cylinder from an older car? There seems to be plenty of those around. Hi Having just put the half shafts and wheels back on my car - I have found that the diff freewheels if i turn the rear wheels. Go to the group homepage and search the archive there will probably be top (or hood as we confusingly call it over here) fitting advice in there. You also probably want to get a least one manual, factory, bentley or haynes. The other book that will be useful to you is the Lindsey Porter restoration book. This definitely has a hood fitting section in it. A search of the archives will also reveal some useful recommisioning advice but as a starter don't forget to: Change all fluids including hydraulic fluids. Grease the front suspensions. Check the wiper blades they... MORE

There is a meeting of classics at the Ace Cafe on the North Circular, about half an hour out of Central London in the evening on the second Tuesday of every month. I've not been but it has quite a high profile as it is 'promoted' by one of the big mags over here. I believe you get a really interesting turnout there. I'm sure one of the London listers can comment on nearness of tube stations / bus routes etc. Gary and other "cross the pond" friends: Paula and I are flying to London, arriving June 18. We... MORE

For those who are interested (and who live close-ish to London) there is a drive across most of the bridges spanning the River Thames in London on 1st June this year, short notice I know. Max I lay the hood on a flat surface inside up I then fold the panel containing the rear windows inwards so the inside of the window rests on the inside of the roof I then fold the rear side windows inwards being careful to fold the hood fabric between the windows and not the window. Next I roll the hood up from the front end so the header rail (with the two over centre clamps tucked in) finishes up in the middle with the hood rolled around it and the outside of the hood on the outside of... hi, Ive had the front suspension rebuilt recently (about 3-400 miles ago) and the near side wheel seems to exhibit some negative camber whilst the offside wheel does not. It did this before the suspension was rebuilt so it hasnt been caused by that. Its had new shaocks as well at almost the same time (slightly before the rebuild) Am i right in saying that the camber is non adjustable? It seems to drive ok with no huge difference in either right or left hand bends but it is concerning me slightly as I think its safe to assume... MORE

Michelle You could try http://www.autosparks.co.uk thats where I'll be getting my wiring equipment from. They can supply ready made full or half harnesses, or if you have special requirements they can make one up for you for about 10% more. Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 21839... MORE

Hello everyone!!! I was wondering if anybody had any information regarding wiring harnesses for a 64 Sprite...My boyfriend and I am in the process of restoring one (oh, I am so glad this long winter is almost over and I can get to work) and we have spent the winter buying parts and fixing things that can be done inside. I did purchase a wiring harness, but it is only for the main electrical components, not for dashboard~ headlights. My boyfriend is very handy with this type of thing, but I do not know where I can find information/instruction... MORE

The clutch was engaged when the petal was up. Not supposed to do that. Now recall that I had the Brakes and Clutch Repaired in Cincinnati about 5 years ago. All was fine, as good as it gets with the orig. design brakes for many short trips. This included a new Master cyl. and Slave cyl. Well, after posing the question to the "Club List" the best idea was that the relief hole in the master cyl. was plugged not allowing the presser to bleed off thus allowing the slave cyl. to move the pushrod back and engaging the... I don't think any brake fluid will cause damage to the seals in the system since by now all the seals will have been changed a time or two and all those made now will be from modern materials designed for modern fluid. The brakes on these cars never were good so I suspect you would find it difficult to detect any small differences in the fluid between different manufacturers with normal road use. I think the most important thing is to change the fluid every year or two so that you know it is in good condition and... MORE

FWIW. I have a friend who has worked full time for the past twenty five years repiring and restoring British cars. He's no jack-leg, in fact his restorations are national winners.
