The gun control change was *not* 12 months ago, it must have been 4 or 5 years now. Firstly a little background: I am a gun owner *and* I support the bulk of the current gun control laws. Since the change in gun laws, you can still own a firearm, there are some restrictions such as * no automatic or semi-automatic weapons * extremely restrictive rules for handguns * some justification for owning a gun. Some legitimate reasons include "I am a farmer", "I want to hunt in state forests" (i.e. no real drama). * strict storage rules (secured... MORE

PLEASE head these bloody gun / anti-gun debates that surface from time to time with "NO LBC" content - so my filters divert them straight to Deleted Items. I have a Midget. Not a gun. Cheers, Steve Clark, Southampton, Uk "Steve Clark" 13852... MORE

Dear Bob in San Diego, One of the best courses I ever took in college was called "Logic and Rhetoric". It taught me to question things people say and to check on supposed "facts" before swallowing them whole. Your message caught my eye because it reeks of propaganda. A quick check on the Internet would have shown that these "facts" are indeed all false and part of a campaign by the NRA to further their cause. First of all, the gun laws were changed in Australia in 1997. The statistics should be a little more updated. The following are... MORE

Bill, I have heard that somewhere in SC there is a reproduction shop that makes the original floor coverings for the Bugeye. Will try and get the name for you but since you are in SC try the internet for british restoration parts. Bob 60 AN5 Tampa, FL MTGBRKR1@... 13845... MORE

On the other hand we in the UK still have a very low level of gun crime (but rising unfortunately). However I suspect the reason is because our gun controls were in place before they were widely available. The problems arise when they have been available then you say that law abiding people have to give them up. "Jeremy Cogman" 13833... MORE

re: Jeremy Cogman's and DLancer's posts. Amen! Especially concerning periodic lubrication of the front end - absolutely; cheap insurance. Don't skimp on this anymore than you'd skimp on brakes. Both can be very costly. It's all a question of "pay me now, or pay me later".... and a lot better ride and more enjoyment for your buck if you pay small amounts "as you go" with respect to a strict program of periodic lubrication. One reason these cars didn't perform as well as expected over the long run in terms of longevity was the fact that most Americans, unlike... MORE

If the car has an engine in it, try WRITING to the Heritage centre. Give them all the details you have, i.e. VIN no, Engine no, and, if you can , the original colour. Sometimes it is easier to get an answer from a letter than a phone call. Margaret South Lincolnshire (UK) mmbrock88@... 13820... MORE

The VIN no can be ANYWHERE on the car. A usual place is on the driver's door pillar. The registration document should have the number on it. Margaret South Lincolnshire (UK) mmbrock88@... 13816... MORE

Mike Satur in England has a very good reputation for trim stuff. The only thing of his I have bought6 is the boot trim kit and it was excellent. Poke around on mgcars.org.uk I'm sure he advertises there somewhere. "Jeremy Cogman" 13804... MORE

Hi Was wondering if anybody has ordered carpet kits or any other interior supplies from MCOC in England? How was the quality? service? I am in need of a carpet kit for a 1500 and live in the states. Have heard so many bad things about carpet from the usual suspects and thought if these were superior it may be worth it. I am not doing a show car, but being a bit of a perfedtionist it has to look and fit good. I have also considered going with a kit from British Parts Locator but I am a... MORE

Where are you. I have one without head rest pockets but its not worth exporting it half way round the world.. If someone wants to pop over to Southend in Essex, good old UK, fair enough. tery "Terry Isherwood" 13858... MORE

There's someone around either on the list or on the mgcars.org.uk bulletin board who is a US spec. 1500 carb expert, can't think who though. Are any of the linkages on the carb stuck? I know SUs but this carb must have a fast idle mechanism to increase the idle when the choke is activated, is that OK? I assume you've backed the idle screw right off and it's still doing 3k yes? Have you posted the question at the ww.mgcars.org.uk bulletin board? There is alot of overlap with the people here but it's not 100%. "Jeremy Cogman" 13786... MORE

the 3k rpm engine is stil with me. My local (chevy, ford, dodge) mechanic gave up on it after checking the timing, vacuum, compression, and linkage. Before I take it to the local extremely high priced British repair shop, IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN CHECK as to why this stupid car is idling at 3k rpm after it warms up? The diaphragm is intact. There are no vacuum leaks. The timing is perfect. The water choke is functioning perfectly. Linkage, well, that's the first thing I checked. I can't believe that running it at 5k rpm for a couple... MORE

Hi Chris, Sadly, no, there was no price reduction. But I got a good deal all round, including good seats, at no extra cost, in exchange for my tatty ones. And he sold my old shell for me to a young lad who wanted to build a Midget to race. I still get 'freebies' from time to time. Like the other week, when making enquiries regarding seats for a Mk 1 MGBGT that my husband bought for a song to restore, he gave us a pair! All right, they need refurbishing, but at least we have seats to work... MORE

When I had a Heritage re shell on my Mk3 Midget about 10 years ago, I had a new hood fitted, as the old one was getting a bit sad looking. Somehow, the garage fitting it managed to put a small rip in it, just behind the header rail above the door, on the bit behind the turn up. He put a few stitches in it, and lots of superglue. To this day it has not leaked! Margaret South Lincolnshire (UK) mmbrock88@... 13748... MORE

At the golf club where I work, vandals were creating havoc, mostly at the dead of night. A tractor was stolen, the clubhouse was broken into and the fruit machine smashed to get a few coppers. One of the villagers sells security equipment, and suggested a digital camera. Not your ordinary one for taking pictures, but a small device that is powered by a battery, and can be placed anywhere, indoors or outside. It is loaded with a smart media card, just like a digital camera, and takes still shots at regular intervals. The timing can be set according... MORE

Yes, I get your point. And, strange as it may seem I had a FOX run into me the other week, while I was driving my Honda Beat. Driving along a straight road, not a very wide one, and not another car in sight either in front or behind, it was suddenl y there in front of me, and did =A31,000 worth of damage to the front of the car. The worst part of it is I can't claim on anyone elses insurance!! Mine paid out, nut I had the excess of =A3250 to pay. Margaret South Lincolnshire (UK)... MORE

Chris- (err, I think we agree?) The glass bonnet is a better deal for anyone comtemplating the "switch", in all respects and DOES save the steel ones for the guys who want to keep their Frogeye's "original". The glass fibre is much easier to lift, much easier to fit as a forward tilt item and results in nearly a 50/50 fwd/rear weight balance. Unlike the steel bonnet, it can be more easily removed if necessary for TOTAL access in minimum time with minimum effort. Had mine not been in such great shape on the Frogeye I bought (or someone... If you live in the UK there is a swap you can do with a Triumph Spitfire or 1500 o/d gearbox. If you are starting from a 1500 midget the swap is easier than starting from an A series car. However most folk these days (on both sides of the pond and as below) opt for a more modern 5 speed gearbox of which the 5th will be an 'o/d' ratio. Hey, Jason- No promises 'cause it's been years since I think I MAY have seen such a car in an LBC magazine (British Car) years ago... California and Tom Colby of Speedwell come immediately to mind. Not his car, but a car equipped with a lot of Colby's stuff, raced out in Speedwell's geographic area. It's just a "picture" which popped into the "forefront" from "within"....I could be totally wrong....this is strictly intuitive from the "right" side of the brain (what's left of it, that is!!).
