Listers I'm back from the States now, I spent two weeks in Florida , drove 2,879 miles between Palm Coast north of Daytona to Orlando several times, Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Tampa. Only saw two Midgets. One for sale, BRG RWA in Miami and one going into a mall near Tampa , Blue I think. A couple of general driving observations. 1) Interstate driving - most people drive at 10mph above limit - like UK 1a) except for those driving at exactly 1mph below the limit in one of the middle lanes, refusing to move over or speed up... re carpet etc. can't say about a mkiii but just had a complete set done by heritage in canada for my '60 BE. twasn't cheap by a long shot, but the quality is outstanding. they give you several options as to what you have made, wool, acrylic, etc, and they have all the patterns down pat. mine slipped right in. very good service too. ken horner '60 BE "pblock4x4" 13610... Thanks for that Bree, it's always nice to have some feedback after helping someone. If you don't hear from them afterwards, or at least about them, you don't really know for sure just how effective your treatment was. Margaret South Lincolnshire (UK) mmbrock88@... 13597... MORE

Gents, I realize the offerings from VB and Moss are shit... I've seen them, bought them, or installed them all at one time or another. (until I recently sold 3 100-4's, my Healey count was 14... and more than 24 total cars...) I have in the past, made my own as suggested. The point, however, or my question, was whether any of the known "concours" suppliers are making correct kits for Sprites. Roger Smith has suggested www.heritagetrim.com . I've asked some questions of them via e-mail and await their reply. I'm aware that someone named McGregor does nice work... MORE

If you have the thermostat out, you need a blanking sleeve in it's place to prevent turbulence. This could be part of your problem. What procedure did you use to flush the radiator. Running water through it is probably not enough (even at pressure). The oily deposits/blockages will not be removed without some chemical or detergent help. Is your timing correct? What did you set it to? Without the pollution stuff it should probably be set using UK timing specs. Gerard "gerardchateau" 13585... MORE

Hey "youse guys", A couple of questions for "youse" regarding MKIII Sprites... MKIII's have the 2 piece top frame... apparently there were stowage bags for these? Just where, due to their odd shape were they to be stowed? Also, Where and how was the top supposed to be folded up and stowed? Is this stuff just s'posed to rattle around in limbo in the boot, or is there a method to this madness. Also, regarding carpeting and interiors.... the big Healey guys can get so anal about orginiality sometimes, you'd think that if they ever sat in a Sprite... MORE

Hi, my Sprite failed it's MOT on the handbrake not working properly. I can be truthful to everyone here, it has failed on the same thing for the past three years, but the testing station I go to just passes the car and tells me to get it fixed. Obviously they can't remember for what, and if it failed the year previous. I only travel about 500 miles a year and have just never gotten round to doing it. I know, I am a bad lad....lol. Right, I want to put that right and fit a new cable because... MORE

Mike, I went through this a few weeks ago, and couldn't find a key anywhere so made one - it was quicker to make it than continue searching. I think these plugs are some archaic British pipe standard. Assuming your plug square recesses are not stretched or tapered ( they should be perfectly square and not "dovetailed"), you can make a key from any 1/2" square drive tool - e.g. short extension bar. Needs to be made from good hard steel, not mild steel. Dimensions: 0.445 to 0.450" square by 0.350" deep. If you make from 1/2" extension bar... MORE

"Are there any insurance companies out there who will....." Sure, loads of 'em. This is called regular insurance (in the US, now, not UK, etc.) but collision is not usually available. Some people in certain states can get AAA insurance which does offer collision on "classics" based on stated or agreed upon value. Now that I think of it, this may just be total loss and not necessarily linked to collision. Not sure but... We should here from other listers on this.. I think Annice and Bob have AAA? HELP!! :) Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 13515... MORE

David, Is the tool to which you refer what I call a "rivnut" installer - kind of like a pop-rivet tool, but with screw-in/out mandrels for various size "rivnuts". I used to use a tool for steel rivnuts in UK which was very good. I now have a made-in-China cheap device which comes with only aluminum rivnuts, and they are virtually useless - the threads pull out of the al rivnuts before fully compressed into place. Is your ref for steel rivnuts? Tony P. "anthony pooley" 13461... MORE

Hi all, My '58 frogeye (AN5/4406) has the early frogeye rear suspension (Horler says that this change started at AN5/4333 and intermittently to 4507) - BMC obviously had some early spare parts to use up. This means the car has a smaller radius arm bracket, shorter lever arms and longer drop links at the rear than later cars. I bought the car as a "project" and the PO had removed these things (probably rusted away) so do not have originals. That's the techno babble out of the way...now the question; where the **** (heck!) can I get these bits?... MORE

Nelson, In the UK, a reconditioned new front suspension will probably cost over 500 pounds sterling - about 750 USD, I guess. SOme quotes I had were over 1000 pounds sterling. I did find some second hand units for about 100 pounds sterling per side - but you are taking a bit of a chance with the number of miles left in the bushes, king pins etc. It depends on what you need, but on my '58 frogeye, very few of the original parts were serviceable. It also depend on how long you want to keep the car. Regards Chris... MORE

Stanley- I can't speak for the Morriservice kit but the early Rivergate kits did involve some cutting and fettling, however..... These kits get better over time. Rivergate has made improvements galore over time (as they ennumerate on their website) and I am sure Paul has done the same with the Morriservice kit, as well. All are aimed at making the transition just as easy and painless as possible. There is very little these days that has to be done to install these kits. They are pretty much bulletproof, though there will always be a little "fettling" to be done... MORE

Perhaps a little background information would help understand my ending up here asking so many questions. Recently Gerard turned me onto a fella that was selling his 62 Midget MK1 that had been sitting on blocks in an old wood working shop for 18 plus years. It had been last run for a couple of months in 1986 and had also been in storage for a few years prior to that. Time is defiantly not kind to brake systems and the sound of an engine starting for the first time in 16 years sounds a bit like a demolition... MORE

I am rebuilding my 62 Sprite and understand that switching over to disc brakes in the front would be a good idea. I have not done any work on the front suspension before and not exactly sure about how to handle the project. There is currently a drum to disc conversion materials on e-bay and I'm unsure what to look for or what to consider a fair price to pay. It is in Canada and I will be passing through that location in a few weeks so I could see the items and pick them up personally but the... MORE
