Now if I had the cash Bob I'd gladly...buy two tickets, a shuttle crossing and go myself. Still, time to start planning for next year. I shall be ordering tickets for us and my folks as soon as this year's race is over. Any of the American contigent in a position to be tempted. No space in our cars I'm afraid but several companies do MGB / TR hire in Britain. "Jeremy Cogman" 11973... MORE

Amen to this. I used one of the adapters and it put the spin on so close to the chassis rail that it was a real pain. Get the filter unit from a car with spin on to start as David says. Moss / VB etc should sell these or get a secondhand one. They are ten a penny in the UK as every dead Metro / Mini has one. "Jeremy Cogman" 11968... MORE

It's about the size of a valve head and needs about a 30lb pull to get it off. Amazing people Bull, so much junk you don't need but really want! JC. "Jeremy Cogman" 11927... MORE

I understand, Jeremy. Guess the expense for shipping and import could get a little out of hand, eh? Sports & Classics of Darien, CT does bulk boat import from suppiers in UK. S & C can also get Peter C.s shocks... Wonder whether any sports car parts supplier around your neck of the woods does any business with the foregoing? Just an idea. There must be stuff going the "other way". Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 11931... MORE

Replaced the pedal return spring and the front rubber hoses. Still no full return of the pedal. The old hoses looked fine inside (even dissected them). Still, they were old. The calliper pistons seemed to still have firm pressure on the pads even with the brake hose disconnected. Had to push the pads back off the rotor to get the hub to turn freely. Should I have had to do that even with no fluid pressure applied against the pistons? The callipers didn't look in too good of a shape - old, rusty, bleeder screws seen better bleeding days,... Good one !!!!! - Jorge Dear Bob, Very old UK joke (a groaner), bare bones of which are: A guy breaks out of a lunatic asylum, enters a laundry, seriously molests several of the lady laundry workers, and runs away. Hi List Hope someone in the UK can help me out here, I once had a contact name for a Guy in the Nottingham area who rebuilds Frog eyes professionally. I shall be passing close by Nottingham at the weekend and would love to pay him a visit so has anyone got his number, postal or email addresses. Thanks Dave "David Dixon" 11719... MORE

Mike, Almost all of the Midget/Sprite threads are American National Fine, known to some as SAE fine , or Unified UNF. 5/16 24TPI is a VERY common and easy to get machine screw or bolt thread. The thread would be axactly the same if it were on a hex-head bolt. Assuming you're somewhere in North America you should be able to find a whole range of National Fine bolts & screws from # 6, #8, #10, & 1/4 up to about 5/8 or 3/4-inch diam with absolutely no problem at Home Depot or equivalent. No correction intended (unless Miss Whiplash is your thing! :-) I think it=92s all a rip-off anyway. As the trade-in is only on new cars, it tries to put you in a new car instead of "recycling" by buying second-hand. This allows the car-makers to continue to over-produce instead of building at a more =93sustainable=94 level. All it does is depress the price of second-hand cars, IMHO. As for diesels, I=92ve just got a V70 D5 estate to replace my old 4.0L Cherokee. It was done for the new tax regime in the UK, which is based on CO2... MORE

Maybe because that is not a fact, just a statistic. Talk to one side of the argument (the Environmental Transport agency), and they=92d say it=92s 25% of the car=92s total. Talk to the other (say th e car makers) and they say that a car=92s production accounts for only 10% of its lifetime=92s pollution. (Lies, damn lies and statistics=85) I=92m no t making this up, see the Daily Telegraph from a few weekends ago (18th May). http://motoring.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/main.jhtml?xml=3D/motoring/2002/0 5/17/emfror18.xml&sSheet=3D/motoring/2002/05/23/ixmot.html And it all depends on how you classify pollution. Hello all, We have just managed to negotiate the same rates with the hotels as this year for our annual London to Edinburgh run, which takes place January 24th - 26th 2003. This run takes us over the Yorkshie Dales, on one of the routes used in the 1930's. It is great fun, and we have a get-together in the bar in the evenings. If anyone in the UK (or anywhere else!!) is interested. please e-mail me off list for further details. In the past, we have had some people from Holland join us. It would be great to... MORE

Interesting point Bob, but if you must know, it is actually a poor quality chrome issue that has people sending them back. As you know, you don't send stuff back to the UK unless you want to lose more money or they pay for the return (then they lose money). That's why they won't send them to me. I want to offer a big thanks to everyone that offered help on my unusual lug nut situation. I received a great deal of assistance from many of you and a few leads actually went somewhere. I don't have the problem 100% solved yet, but there are two possible solutions. One is fading quickly but the other is my fallback position so one way or another I think it will happen.
