I have a Mk1 (1961) & a Mk3 (1970). Each has it's own characteristics. But the Mk 3, with a 1275 engine, is the sportier of the two. The Mk1 is more basic, and needs to be treated with a little more tenderness and respect. It won't be pushed, whereas the Mk3 will. The Mk3 is also sturdier, and has lots more power, especially getting up hills, and is easier to manoeuvre on tight bends. It depends on what you are looking for in a car as to which model you choose. Sometimes you are limited by what's available,... MORE
Can anyone recommend a decent Midget specialist around Southampton area in UK?? I am looking to check for a clean bill of health and then would like a god pont of reference for various suspension upgrades, engine & brake modifications that I am planning. Can anyone please help me in my rebuilding endeavours with my North American Midget: 1. What is the correct routing for the main steel fuel line (from pump to carbs) - inside the propshaft tunnel or underside of floor? - if inside, which side? I have rear brake line running through tunnel on right-hand side - should fuel line be anchored at same points as brake-line clamps? - if right-hand route inside tunnel is correct, at what point does fuel line cross over to left-hand side, and would this be above or below gearbox (or bell housing)? 2. My fault James, no need for you to apologise! It was just me winding things up a bit when I asked if that was Richmond, Yorkshire, UK!! My sense of irony, that's all. It applies to lots of place names in your little country which were named after the places "back home" where the original Settlers hailed from. Now, what about that meeting in Carlisle??! Couple of points Shaun. Pricing seems a bit of a cartel - probably fixed by BMH. All suppliers seem to be asking very close to 2500, but have various sweeteners - eg MGOC give 6-months' 0% finance (but payable by 6 monthly instalments) and 10% off all MGOC purchases for a year + free delivery. MGBHive (where mine is coming from) want 2500, with free delivery and 100-worth of free stuff. You cannot order direct from BMH. Choose your prepper / painter carefully - definitely worth shopping around. Have they done Heritage shells before? Are they going to take... MORE
Jorge , The old MG records are kept at Gaydon , which is the British Leyland herita ge car museum complex (Now owned by Ford, I think), It's 10 miles from wher e I live. You can buy a heritage certificate from them which will tell you when the car was made, when it was despatched, the colour of paint and inte rior trim etc. I think that all you need is the chassis Nr. (VIN Nr.) costs about =A325 fo r a certificate I think. This is to pay a historian/ record keeper employed by the museum to... MORE
Mine is in the boot (trunk), and I had to replace the original manual a few years ago when it stopped working properly. I now have an electric one, and no longer have problems. At Last, another Mk 1 Midget!! My Poppy was built in December 1961, which make her just over 40 years old. Still has the original body (with very little repair work done) and engine (with botton end rebuilt) Runs a treat, but has today gone to the car hospital to try and have the exhaust put right. Aparently, they don't make them any more, so one has to be specially made. Keep your fingers crossed for her!! Margaret South Lincolnshire (UK) mmbrock88@... 10781... MORE

Allen, I now have a happy running Mk 1 Midget with a new rear hub and bearing, it all went well including bleeding the brakes as indicated. The hub that I took of had taken a beating, the splines that lock the wheel studs in has all worn away on 2 studs and were pretty gone on a third. Does anyone have any experience of wire wheel coversions? This is the type that goes on to a standard axle, the centre lock hubs bolt on like a steel wheel, then a specially offset (took a while to work that... MORE
