I was watching around the place, and noticed a sign "CAR BOOKS", I thought.......lets take a look......ummm... lot of uninteresting stuff......when suddenly a red Midget image fulfilled my... MORE

James. what do you mean by cockpit surround. The metal lip is rusted where the screws and mushroom things for the hood were fixed. The piece of rubbery plastic is a little damaged where the screws passed through. I'm not sure if I have a rubbery thing on the car I'm putting back on the road . its fitted with a hard top at the moment , and I've got a front wing and bonnet balanced on top of it. By the way I live in GWC , England. Drop me an Email Regards Alan 3 gauge dash and... MORE

My 72 RWA (registered early 73) had the one with the circular holes. The rim got so manky that I persuaded my wife to buy me a Mota-Lita replacement with a leather rim for Christmas 2000 from the MGOC in the UK. Can you refurbish steering wheels? The rim has lost its surface and is getting pitted; the spokes are pitted, too. Charlie 72 RWA (2 rebuilds and 4 1/2 engines so far...) "heardcd" 9646... MORE

Yes it's soundproofing or more acurately sound deading i.e. it doesn't block sound it stops it's production by stopping the drumming effect from large flat panels. Most large motor factors in the UK sell it in self adhesive sheets. I'm sure those in the US must sell it too. In the UK there is a product called Vinyl Cote (kote, koat, etc) which will not only restore faded vinyl but allows you to change the colour entirely. Sounds dodgy I know but from what I've heard it actually works very well. "Jeremy Cogman" 9641... MORE

Sorry folks I know this topic has gone on long enough but there was no way I could let this offensive ignorant bilge pass but I'll try to keep it brief. There is a difference between freedom fighters and terrorists. Freedom Fighters don't blow up innocent civillians in shopping centres, kneecap young men for dating someone of a different religion, rob banks, kidnap racehorses etc (and there is alot of etc.). Some of the British ruling classes behaved appalling in Ireland but we can't change that now and the fact today is that a majority of the population of... MORE

TRADITIONAL CAPITALISM: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull. Your herd multiplies, and the economy grows. You sell them and retire on the income. ENRON VENTURE CAPITALISM: You have two cows. You sell three of them to your publicly listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother-in-law at the bank, then execute a debt/equity swap with an associated general offer so that you get all four cows back, with a tax exemption for five cows. What makes you think he'd fit in in FlameWars? LOL!! Cap'n- Go here; http://www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&access=&mode=tlist&subject=106 and try the "church of the nativity" link. Lots of irritable old men and some rather lovely young ladies arguing hotly about politics etc. Hang on a sec, Alan, you dont think myself, Gerard, and Growler are the same person? Eek! poor Gerard, I think you should apologise at once! :-) Cheers! Growler BTW, I have a 'message rule' set up on my PC which ignores anything with "no LBC" in the subject. Hi, I'm about to rebuild a 59' Sprite (AN5). I hesitate between a straight rebuilt of the normal front suspension (with new Amstrong shockbrakers) or its remplacment by a Frontline kit with telescopic shockbrakers (details of the kit are at http://www.mgcars.org.uk/frontline/frntsus.htm ). Is this a good idea? Is it worth the expense? And shall I replace the rear suspension as well? I'd be glad to hear advices from fellow list-members who have done (or decided not to do) the same. Cheers. Olivier Caeymaex '59 Sprite, Belgium "Olivier Caeymaex" 9534... MORE

Oliver- My Frogeye came equipped with a Wheelrite tube shock conversion all around, the same type I used on my Vizard-tuned '74 Spridget years ago. Each system has it's pros and cons but I am convinced the conversion is not necessarily done to increase "performance". Most are using levers on race tracks, today. The reason people usually go this way is because they cannot obtain good, well rebuilt lever shocks and get sick and tired of having to replace the poorly rebuilt units (which seem to be the norm) which seem to abound in the marketplace. I know that... MORE

The IRA labelled as terrorists? Wonder who done that? Oops must have been the English Government.Couldnt it be that there are Irish people who just want to rid the North of Ireland of an English presence so that they may reunite their country, heal its wounds and live in peace? I think the IRA could more accuratley be called "Freedom Fighters" I do not condone the methods of the IRA but I understand their goals. Protestants and Catholics co exist quite peacefully South of the border and have done for many many years. The British have an awful habit of... MORE

Captain (and other interested listers), Just a few counterpoints to Cap'n Bob's comments. BTW, these do not come because I support one side or the other: I think it may be part of the British nature to side with the underdog. There have been atrocities in the Middle East for centuries. Past Israeli Prime Ministers have, in a previous existence, strung up Brits from lamp-posts during their struggle for independence. Some 50 years on, it is not seen as an issue on the world stage. But they would still say they were justified in revolting against an occupying power... MORE

It's your computer, David. My monitor is recalibrated every month, and the pictures look fine. Try turning down your contrast a touch and turning up the brightness. The picture "splines_closeup" should show a bright white hilight, tapering from silver-grey to gunmetal grey at the edges. Between the brownish-grey splines should be dark brown in colour. Jeffrey- The front indicators are off a Mini, but they're the same as the ones on a Bugeye. The front is one-piece steel. Chas: (I am not offended, BUT....!) The Israeli's have the right to protect their country and citizens from "bombing" whether it be from B-52's or any other means, just as we do (and just as we are doing!). While I absolutely agree the Palestinians deserve their own state (we ALL do), the purposefully directed attacks against unarmed civilians is directly opposite to the Israeli purposefully directed attacks against the "armed" (in line with our own "methods") both of which accept collateral civilian casualties as this is as unavoidable as killing our own guys once in a while (neither of... This does sound like one of those hoaxes you see, though I could not find it listed =96 who knows? The American Friends of The Hebrew University (www.afhu.org) seem real enough. Though the Saudis do have a few problems living with Western ideas of freedom, it is a bit rich to send this round while the Israelis are shooting innocent Palestinians and shooting at the palce we Christians celebrate as Christ's birthplace. Before anyone flames me, I agree with Jeremy: none of the parties involved are angels. IMHO, we just need to get some perspective on this. Both sides... MORE

I agree. The thing that binds this group together is the common ownership of spridgets (oh , and frogeyes) 8o) You go to any MG owners meeting and the subject of most conversations is not MG technical but is loosely connected. For tech stuff only try this website , http://www.mgcars.org.uk/index.html midgetsprite technical or general sites. However this site / group is also here to give help and advice to fellow Spridget (oh, and frogeyes) owners. Which it does , and very well .Thanx to Gerard, the Bruces. Bob. In Malta they are supposed to drive on the Left, like in England. But mostly they drive in the shade. Can't ever remember cobble stone streets there though. Try and get a bus ride on a 50's bus.Last time I was there that was the only form of public transport- very cheap and entertaining. All bus routes start from Valletta. Get to the Mosta cathedral. I'll be in Malta from the 7th to the 13th of April on business so I'll be off the list during that time. Of course, I'll be looking for LBCs in my free time while I'm there. I've got both my cameras so I'll be taking photos for the magazines I write for if I find any interesting cars. Malta was a British colony, and they drive on the right, so I'm hopeful. I'm also thinking of taking some photos of empty roads, cobblestone streets, harbor quays, etc and superimposing shots of my race car over them. That may... MORE
