Hi Bree, I know just how you feel, as about 18months after I got Ava, my Mk3 Midget, the clutch went. As it was winter, I decided to wait until the spring to have her repaired. By then the body had become unsafe! I couldn't afford to have her repaired. So she was laid up until funds were available. Meantime, passing a local house we saw Poppy up for sale, at an affordable price. Like you, I was getting withdrawal symptoms, so my husband bought her for me so I would not be Midget-less. The idea was to sell... MORE

No idea - just passing on what my tame mechanic told me. Afraid I haven't spoken to him for a few days, so I'll pass on anything interesting: I had a look after I got the replies and could not find what I thought I was describing (if that makes sense!). Car's off the road again after it failed its MOT (UK roadworthiness test) o n rear springs (too much sag to driver's side - ring any bells) and a bit of welding. Should have it on the road by next weekend - another sunny weekend missed - AAARGH!... MORE

Yeah call me crazy. The Midget should be running in about a month. The Mini PU awaits a lot of floor panel welding but should see progress once the Midget gets its Kent cam, Kenlowe, Alden Yellow, Datsun 5speed, and a set of progressive valve springs I got in the UK ten years ago. Could have got that engine for 400! Oh well! Well, here it is in a nutshell. I have contacted local clubs(if you call 300+ miles away local) here in Louisiana, to try and find a reputable builder to mechanist who KNOWS this engine..WELL! No luck. So I either ship it to Rivergate, or the guy Brad knows; or try this http://www.brittek.com/majorenginekit.html and do it myself w/ a friend. I have re-ringed a buick 3.8 iter, but this is different! This is where I am at: Today I am stripping the car..completely.I am selling of the entire interior minus the... MORE

Coming a bit late to this thread, but here's another piece of information about the "K" series. This did indeed replace the A+ in the Metro - it became the "Rover 100" in the process. The "K" series also powers the MG "F" and "TF". (The "F" was based around the clever Hydragas suspension from the Metro - clever, but too difficult to make it work reliably in the longer term for a sportscar. They ditched the suspension and replaced it with coils, gave it a facelift and called it "TF") Anyway, although the "K" seires is a completely... MORE

In the UK torn boots should be an MoT failure but they quite often don't spot it, prefering to fail the car on a handbrake or wheel bearing that doesn't feel like the one on a modern eurobox. "Jeremy Cogman" 9153... MORE

Bree- I see you're still looking for a LBC. An active British (all make) MG, or Healey club would be a good place to inquire. Is there one near you? If you'll give me an idea where you live, I can give you the contacts of whatever clubs might be close. Happy Easter. "tloutrec" 9128... MORE

Well, Tim- Obviousy I am concerned with relevant day to day matters which guarantee my continued participation insofar as LBC's are concerned. Fr'instance, Phred is my "watchcat" (quite ferocious). Nobody gets close to my LBC or parts storage facility. An invaluable member of the Capn's household (you will agree) and thus, worthy of honorable mention, accordingly. Planes are mechanical contrivences as are LBC's and occasionally act up and require "real time" operational problem solving skills, just like LBC's "Stub" manifolds are all the rage for those of us running Judsons and wishing to convert to the relative trouble-free SU... Just a word about the durability of the A-series engine. My sprite came with a 948cc. I pretty much used the car as a daily driver. Being 16 and still trying to figure out how to read the Bently service manual, all those British terms" I did not really know too much about tuning. Well I drove the car for a few years as the oil pressure dropped lower and lower until it had no pressure at idle. But I kept driving it. Finally I came across a 1275 and made the swap. I took the 948 apart and... MORE
