"London can be magical on a Sunday morning" Exactly!! Your's is a beautiful city and I felt the same way about Manhattan back in my youth. I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. I remember Saturday night dates that turned into Sunday mornings in Central Park tossing a football or frisbee around; then a sprint across town to Friday's on the East side for breakfast (picking up a New York Times on the way for "proper" reading material), the sound of the MGA's Abarth echoing against the quiet city; magical? Yeah, it was!! (Bob Shlafer, doing his thing... MORE

Hi Doug, Definately not for the faint hearted, but I think the Frontline one is even more involved. See http://www.mgcars.org.uk/frontline/gearbox.htm. Your best bet would be to put an A-series engine in your car and install the Datsun kit. Believe it or not, that would be the easiest and most economical Speaking of snow, I bought my first Bugeye on March 26th 1968, I remember it snowed that week (if not that day) and we had snow that year right into April! Hi Firstly apologies to everyone for using this international group to make a local request. And I'm gonna shout. HELLO, ARE THERE ANY OTHER SPRIDGET OWNERS OUT THERE WITHIN THE M25 AREA? (apart from Mike) BECAUSE I CAN SEE VERY LITTLE SIGN OF LIFE. I'm trying to get some feedback from London based Spridgeteers with a view to getting together for a run once or twice a year. I've posted messages on this and other groups before as well as putting flyers on 4 midgets parked localy. Lets just say that the results have been at best, underwhealming. I'm... MORE

Hello all! Entries are open for the 2002 Targa Florio - the site of a number of DHMC forays with Sprites and also BMC factory efforts with Midgets. So, while I'd love to take my car across and run this event, the shipping costs to/from Australia (not to mention the 6 months the car will be away!), make this an unattractive option. So I was thinking that maybe a co-drive in a UK/European spridget would be most satisfactory!!! Seriously, if the idea of running in the modern revival of the famous Targa Florio is of interest, and you have... MORE

Dodgy one this. Done this lots of times in the past when I had minis etc. I have had studs firmly welded to the housing making it impossible to turn the studs or lift off the housing. I've had threads strip when trying the old two nut trick , even had the studs snap off level with the top of the housing. Just another joy of owning a British car with an A series engine. Ended up going for broke and tapping wedges between the housing and the block after a good soaking in penetrating oil. Sometimes you'r lucky... MORE

This is quite an interesting story. For clarification though, MGR owns the brand Austin Healey (as well as quite a few others). There's an article on the BBC web site about all this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/audiovideo/programmes/pm/newsid_12600 00/1260084.stm But to summarise: "John Sanders, the marketing director for MG Rover, was equally surprised since he was adamant his company owned the Healey name and had received no approaches from BMW. " "At first, a spokesman for BMW Great Britain said they still owned the rights to Austin Healey, but then Jorg Dinner of BMW in Munich contradicted that, saying Austin Healey belonged to... MORE

Thanks RH, I made this dash by hand around 1970. It is 1/2 black walnut with the edge doubled to 1 inch thickness so I could create the same beveled profile as the original dash. The contours are identical to the original. All the gauges are coutersunk and there is a maplight and power antennae switch tucked into the recess above the ignition switch. The lighting knob is also hand made from black walnut and is identical to the original. All the switches are original except for the toggles in the console section. Notice the notched out area where... MORE

A lot can be said for improvising with 'tacky stuff'. Back in the late 1960's, (before I knew him) my husband's Riley 1.5 develloped a leak in the sump, so he filled it with a piece of well chewed gum to tide him over till it was properly repaired. Needless to say it got forgotten, and some years later sold the car on to his uncle. That piece of gum was stull in place many years later when the car finally came off the road for the last time. It must have been for about 10 years!! Can anyone... MORE
