Rob UK spec 1500 Midgets are fitted with twin HS4 SU carbs as standard equipment. If you can obtain that set up I can't see why you should need to cut anything as the US and UK bodyshells are identical. I once fitted twin HS2 carbs to a US 1500 (they came from a 1300 Spitfire). They fitted OK without chopping anything... James "jamesbilsland" 7343... MORE

Helo there everyone. Hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year. A bit late I know, but I have only just re-subscribed to the list after my extended holiday in the USA. Thanks to all of you who gave me a few pointers etc. I really had a great time, and I intend going back sometime in the next few years. I was based in Bullhead, Arizona, where my motel was on the river front. I visited the classic car display at the Riverside Casino in Laughlin, Nevada; spent two afternoons in Oatman, and went to the... MORE

Hi Group ! The exhaust on my '66 (single-rear-bumper) midget presses against the underside of the rear bumper where it exits underneath the rear valance. As I drive along bumpy roads there is movement which causes a scraping/squeaking noise which is very embarrassing ! This appears to be because the tailpipe turns upward as it exits the rear silencer box. I was wondering if the car is perhaps fitted with a split-bumper exhaust in error (I bought the car with the rear bumper not fitted). If I had split-bumpers it would presumably appear somewhere near the edge of the... MORE

LOL, Growler- Wish I could help you out on your pillaging but besides the AN needle for the Sprite carbs, I've not a clue. Isn't there an SU carb. supplier (somebody bought SU out "over there" just recently, as I recall from previous autox.team spridget posts) in the UK who might have this info? Web search, perhaps? As to different needles available by measuring at the 8 or 9 stations, I have the Teglerizer site for this, though I do thank you for the offer. And I definitely thankyou for explaining very clearly the functions of this SU carb... MORE

When I purchased my '66 Midget it had no speedo cable, so I thought it would only need a cable to get the speedo working. Unfortunately, I have now fitted the cable and it still doesn't work. If I spin a small screwdriver in the back of the gauge the needle moves, so I suppose it must be at the other end. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should check first. I don't want to take out the engine and gearbox only to find there's something simple ! Tim R. Essex, UK. '66 Midget "timboreeves" 7300... MORE

Hi Bob No I dont know Michael Palin, although I have met his wife, Helen quite a few times. I was at his house as I had to pick up a key to get a surveyor into their sons flat as I was selling the flat below and had to check the condition of the roof. Very boring, I'm sorry. I'm lucky as I sell property in an area of London where I get to meet quite a few famous people (although most of them wouldn't be known outside England. Gary L P.S. my office is quite unusual. Firtly I apologise in advance for my hypocracy in having a rant about non spridget related postings. And secondly for my blatant name dropping. My spell check tried to correct "Spridgets" to "Springiest" quite apt if you've ever seen my Frogeye hop around corners. And "Spridgeting" to "predigested" make of that what you will. Knowing the adoration that this list bestowes upon all things Monty Python. I had to pick up something from Michael Palin's house (Name dropping bit) and standing in his lounge is a model of a foot about 2 feet high. I assume it's the one... MORE

Yup they do although they are cast into the backplate so tuning/swapping them is not an option, on a previous Midge I ground these off so the back plate was flat and then used stubs but in my lazy old age I'm not that fussy. Hi all I own a 58 frogeye with later rib case gearbox it has the later gear stick from a Midget i.e. the one with a rubber/metal collar half way up. Question. Is it just a matter of replacing the later stick with the earlier one or are there other parts, different retaining bits etc? As for Guns. We seem to have a geographic divide on the issue. With those of you on the left hand side of the Atlantic feeling that it is a God given and constitutional right to bear arms and those of us over here... MORE

Anyone who does not have the good sense to keep their guns locked up where they should be is hardly going to remember to keep 1 or 2 Blanks as the first shot or shots in their clip or chamber. At close range you would be surprised how much damage a blank can do.The long and the short of it is that if you have children you should have your guns where they can NOT be accessed by them. The majority of gun accidents are caused by stupid people who have had very little or no training whatsoever who... MORE

The subject lines sums it all up!! Left this morning at 7:15 and drove into Dallas to Smiley's racing to attend a swap meet for race car parts. Much of what I saw there was dirt track related but many parts have good applications for the Drag Sprite. I had intended to hook up with Richard Wright from the Spridget list, but since I hadn't talked with him about where we should meet up and what we were wearing, it just wasn't looking to promising. While inside Smiley's, I called my wife on the cell phone to see if... MORE

Did you know, in the mighty British Navy at the time of Empire building, every sailing ship had cannon (the plural of cannon) for protection. Cannon of the times required round iron cannonballs. A ship's master wanted to store the cannonballs such that they could be available for instant use when needed, but in a manner that would not let them roll around the gun deck. The solution devised was to stack them up in a square-based pyramid next to the cannon. The top level of the stack had one ball, the next level down had three, the next... MORE
