Having been to Wisconsin on business, I can confirm that the aiport shops are full of cheese shaped head gear. They didn't tempt me. However, don't Briggs and Stratton engines come from WI too? Anyone put one in a Sprite yet? Chris Howes Wales '58 Frogeye "howes" 5568... MORE

I have just complete the body, trim and paint and the interior of my 1959 Bugeye. It has the orig. 948 cc and non-synco transmission. 104 K. It purrs like a kitten and is fun to drive...easy. I just returned from a club show in Chareston, SC and was not to impressed with the midget mk I and bugeye their. I should have taken mine ! When one goes to a "real" show, not concurs, how are the cars judged? Is there a point system ? Is it better to have an orig. non-carpeted interior? I would think well... MORE

Dear Spridget friends, I have heard that in the UK a special system is in use for classification of the condition of classic cars like MG's. For instance: class 2/1 condition. Can anybody give me more information? Are other systems in use in other countries? Chiel Bovenkerk, The Netherlands. "Chiel Bovenkerk" 5549... MORE

slightly off track I know, but I am looking for some advice on another MG.. .. Having seen the recent article in the UK magazine Practical Classics about tuned Spidgets, my curiosity about Turbocharged A series has been re-kindle d. I have wondered for a while if it was possible to fit the MG Metro Turbo se t up into a spridget, obviously it is possible. I have just been offered a cheap complete MG Metro Turbo at under =A3200 an d am asking if anybody has any experience with them, what to look for and t he pros... MORE

Had several Heralds in the 60/70s, 948 saloon, 1250 saloon, estate and convertable. Unique at the time as it had a chassis. Like most convertables of the time they leaked and rotted from the inside out. Looked the business though. Chassis rotted away, had several outriggers fall off but the sections are simple and easy to replace. Actually had a chassis break in half driving through South London. On accelerating it would come up and hit the floor whilst on breaking it would slam into the road. We opened the doors and wrapped the tow cable round and drove... MORE

=A3600 for a Herald Convertable is good, especially with a full MOT. So lon g as the chassis is structurally sound, the rest can be dealt with as and when necessary. The only thing not readily available is a new bonnet. Margaret South Lincolnshire (UK) Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, but today is a gift! mmbrock88@... 5391... MORE

Poppy, my Mk1 Midget, (Despatched from Abingdon December 1961) still has her original body, except for a floor pan and cross member, and also the original 948cc engine. OK, she has had a new coat of paint, (probably several!!) Lots of the trim is missing, and she has new seats, carpets and interior trim. Pretty original I would say! Sorry to disagree with Rick, but I can't see how a project that succesfully re-created a midget right wing from a stove top can be classified as a nightmare. Dear all of my UK friends, I am sure you have all heard about our post problems here with Anthrax. We tend to get very wrapped up in our own problems here. I haven't heard a word in the media lately about the devastating Mad Cow Disease. I know it was causing events to be canceled etc. What is it's impact on the common man over there now-a-days? Trying to fit a new dynamo, together with a new fan belt, when the new belt is a tad wider than the old one. To get a race engine built here in Australia will cost b/n about A$6000 and A$13,000 depending on who you use and what you want. The biggest, fastest engines (from the most expensive builder) with billet crank, carillo rods, steel caps, converted thick flange A+ block, etc etc are right up there in $$. If you are happy with a wedged/cross-drilled EN16T crank, Cooper S rods, Spridget or A+ block, etc, and are happy with 15-20% less HP, then you can do it for the bottom end of the range (~$6000). Depends on what you can afford to spend...... MORE

Jon If the 'new boy' comment is aimed in my direction I should point out that the power I quote comes from a recognised and highly reputable rolling road in the UK. Peter Baldwin tunes probably 50% of the front running A series race cars in this country. Last year Peter won the Mini Miglia challenge series which is THE front running series for A series powered cars in the world. Rolling road figures do vary depending on the road and the weather conditions but I assure you that my engine produced over 140bhp on Peter's rolling road. I... MORE

I have had the same problem with my Mk3 Midget running hot. When she ran on 4* leaded petrol, the temp. gauge read between 68-72. Since 4* disappeared from the forecourts, she has been running at between 80-90. I have been filling up with BP, as that is the nearest petrol station to where we live. Friday night I we went to the Lake District for the week-end, and I filled up with Shell. Next thing I know, the temp. is dropping. I filled up again on Sunday morning, the temp. dropped a bit further. About 20 miles from... MORE

Hi Everybody, My name's Martin Peake and I've owned my '71 Austin Sprite since 1982. However, its boy racer LCB exhaust fell apart in the snow of 1986, I went out and bought a Golf GTI and the Sprite's been in a series of garages ever since. A few weeks ago, I decided it was either sort the old thing out, or get rid of it. The body is fairly rotten, and I'm not convinced it's particularly straight anymore, so I've bought a partially-restored shell - all that's original is the transmission tunnel area. There's some welding to be... MORE

Thanks for the help. New guage on order. Can I simply disconnect the oil pressure line from the back of the old guage or do I need to drain something first? I have visions of loosening off the nut (once I can work out how to get to it) and oil spurting everywhere. There is also a second Smiths oil guage in a console which houses the radio. Don't know why this is there as both work, although giving slightly different readings. A short length of braided hose has simply has been taken off the back of the original... MORE

There are 1.5 forged rockers available in the UK for about UK=A3140-ish and they are complete with new pillars which re-align the rocker assembly.
