Hi guys, Recently found this group and love the mix of technical info, humour and complete rubbish! Used to own a '63 1098 and a '58 tuned 948 Sprite about 10 years ago. The later Sprite had an ashley hardtop and looked like nothing else on the road. Have just bought a RWA 1275cc and want to go hillclimbing on the odd weekend. Couple of questions - thinking of an Oselli engine. Anyone had any experiences? Any good alternatives? Looking for about 110bhp and will need it to be fairly driveable and reliable. Will the standard halfshafts handle that... MORE

Anyone know how to get hold of replacement windows for the quarterlights in my hard top? (UK please) ...Not sure on the type of hard-top, it came with the car. It's quite angular and not the prettiest thing in the world... Cheers ST stuart.toller@... 5103... MORE

All, I know a popular one this, but to save me searching through countless old posts full of non LBC content (lets not open that can of worms again!!) I would like some advice. My 71 sprite (1275) is in dire need of an alternator (don't ask why a 71 car has got a dynamo). What is the best alternator to use? (bear in mind I'm in the uk..) I'm after quite a lot of power due to my sprite being fully technologically advanced and running a PC (again, don't ask - yet!) As ever, all help appreciated... ST... MORE

You ass-u-me wrong Bob, at least as far as I know, oil coolers are not standard on 1500's - although by all acoounts they should be... ...just my 2 old english pennies worth. ST (Still with Sprite '71) "Stuart Toller" 5043... MORE

In the USA, PON, in the UK and Europe, RON, I believe. So, you are using 91RON (equals 88PON, more or less) and Doug is using 94 RON. Hmmm; substantial enough difference, for sure. :) No big deal, just curious in view of past posts on 1500's and performance aspects. Don't know much about 1500's, obviously; tonight I found out they run different oil pressures than their Series A forebearers. Always something to learn!! Cap'n. Bob '61 :{) PilotRob@... 5041... Bob Thanks for the kind words. Car back in 1986 was around =A35000 fully built. In 2000 the last cars, Type Approved, K Series sold for =A318000. So what's it worth today ? Hard to tell, on average more than a steel frog. Very few of the original 150 odd made ever come up for sale. One of the ear ly 1275's was advertised recently for =A37500. The later cars change hands for =A312000- 15000 ! They tend to be purchased by people who want a Geoffrey Healey Original, it s a broad church. Airline pilots (hello Capt. Bob),... MORE

Hi, Mike: You are the first and only person I know who has one of these! I hear now, the Company is out of business(?) or is it simply up for sale(?). Would you mind telling me something of this "modern Frogeye" such as engine and driveline spec.? What sort of gearbox and rear axle ratio has it? And, of course, your subjective opinion and feeling as to what it is like to drive as compared to, let's say, a regular Frogeye with possibly a stock 1275 or something like that, provided, of course, you've had that sort of... Hi Willy, Don't put off taking your Mom for a ride in your car. At nearly 90 years young, my Grandmother-in-law loved being driven in my Midget, despite having to be helped getting in and out. More recently an Aunt in her late 80's enjoyed the drive so much she wants to know when I am going to visit again!! We will all at some time get to the stage in our lives when little things can bring so much pleasure, so go on, give your Mom a treat. She will enjoy it. If the weather is a bit... MORE

Thanks Guy, The twist seems to be between the front bulkhead and the suspension crossmenber and it's an inch high on the left side - the side which shows most signs of accident repair. I've got the drawing and dimensions for doing this in my original BMC workshop manual. Also look for ripples in the Sounds expensive! It probably has been driven like this for years, so it can't be that bad! Andy Gibson andrew.gibson@... Hi all, Near me in Nottingham (UK) is a Midget that not only has the Frog(bug)eye front end, but also has a bug(frog)eye back end grafted on. The present owner told me, after coming back to a confused stranger (me) peering under the back end of his car (looking for type of springs), that the work was done by a fireman in his spare time. From the brilliant seemless quality of the work I think he should have been a bodyshop man instead. Cheers, Phil '79 1500 nearly back on wheels & '71 1275 buried under assorted automotive 'treasures'... MORE

Hello list, just incase you are interested I have just uploaded some more classic car photos that I have taken at local rally's (UK). There are some of Sprites & Midgets amongst them somewhere. G'day from down under, When I wanted a discrete stereo put in my mk4 sprite,a local store/fitting joint came up with this idea. The "system" is in the boot( it is only a little bigger that a radio/cassette player_____but includes a 6stacker cd player.)The aerial is hidden under the car pointing down, and slightly forward, near the passenger side overrider( this is a rhd car). This aerial is the same as a mobile 'phone unit. The four speakers are placed with two in the space behind the seats,i.e pointing up,although this did need two holes cut in the car, these holes are only... MORE

Wings & Wheels British car show at Santa Monica, CA this Sunday, Sept, 30th. Anyone on Lists attending? I am planning on driving up to W&W show, would like to place some faces with names of other Listers if they are in attendance. Unfortunately, Bugeye is far from ready so will be driving non-LBC. Also, am planning on going to San Diego British Car show in Fallbrook the following Sunday, Oct. 7. Would like to meet up with other Listers if possible. Hi, I'm new to this group. I'm preparing an Arkley Midget (originally was a 1965 MkII) for competition use - Autotests, Sprints and Historic Road Rallies. I've posted a couple of photos of the car, taken in June on the day I bought it - partly dismantled, with several boxes of removed bits. Can anyone offer advice on how to level a front cross member that's almost an inch higher on the left side than the right side? It appears to be left over from long ago front end accident damage that preceeded the Arkley conversion and I didn't... MORE

Hi I've just posted some new (now on the road) photo's of my frogeye on the "Photos" section. I've taken the old ones off to leave more room for everyone else to put up pictures of their little beauties (cars, that is!) It's the first summer that I've owned her and even though I'm in the UK I've only had to drive her once with the roof up. I thought I'd upset the purists with the dashboard. Welcome to the list Pete. You have joined at the right time, it has been a bit hectic lately but hopefully that has past now. Another question about the frame to body seal on the windshield (windscreen). I understand from many responses in the past that one must lub. the track to get the seal installed. This is a hard job, in fact I just paid a glassman to do it and he glued it in rather than sliding. One must use a real slippery lub. ie, liquid dishwashing soap or K Y jelly so I have been told. Question, ass-u-me ing that one gets it in correctly, the front lip needs to be pulled forward as the frame comes down to the body.... MORE
