Well, yes and no. The garage is full of cars, and we are working towards having a private museum of small and unusual cars and related (as well as non -related) memorabelia. You have all probably gathered by now that we are getting on a bit in life, kids have all left home, we are grandparents, but don't feel a day older than we did last week!! My problem is that I have just had my engine re-conditioned by a friend who is not a mechanic but still good with engines. He re-conditioned his own engine in his Austin A30 a couple of years back, and it still sounds like a sewing machine. The problem being, my engine still sounds like an old one. I have had renewed just about every part of the engine. I need someone to listen to it, and then maybe pinpoint what could be causing it to still be noisy. Can anyone on the list in the UK recommend a good mechanic (that knows the A series engines like the back of his hand)?. I would be willing to travel as I am having a few problems with my newly fitted reconditioned 1275. Thanks for any advice in advance, Gary King (Newcastle UK) 69 MKIV Sprite "Gary King" 4231... Hi Rick, Just noticed your location. Are you anywhere near Laughlan? (I hope I have the correct spelling) My sister went out there in May this year to live, and I will be joining her for Christmas and New Year. Sadly I will not have my Midget. I don't think she would stand the heat anyway. Margaret South Lincolnshire (UK) Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, but today is a gift! mmbrock88@... 4227... MORE

All this talk about France has reminded me ... Planning a trip down there in the Sprite next month and as space will be a bit limited I'm going to have to sacrifice some of the tools and spare parts that I normally carry around so we can get a couple of pairs of socks in the boot (trunk). So my question is, If you could only carry around 5 things in the back of your car in order to effect a repair to get to the nearest garage what would they be? List so far is: 1. Mole... MORE

The pictures of my Maestro - Sprite electronic ignition conversion are now on my website at www.spridget.co.uk Apolgies for the lack of content on this site its just that with writing websites all day for a living and working on my cars / house / garden the rest of the time I don't have a lot of time left to do my own site... ...Maybe when the winter draws in and my car goes into hibernation... Bobby baby you miss the point it is erroneous to call your concoction "French" as they would be horrified, what Margaret has described is what the French would consider French toast!!!! ;-) AW "Andrew Worley @ Mi-King" 4163... MORE

Oh yes it's fuel , I remember. I've been using a copper or high copper alloy (who can tell, got it from Moss) fuel line for 10 years and approaching 100k miles and I've never seen any sludge (in my fuel system that is). Must be strange kiwi copper that causes the problems! "Jeremy Cogman" 4162... MORE

Yeah, right, Andrew! Considering the amount of time they give us to eat while "on the road", it's no wonder we eat at all. Make up for it when I get home, though French Toast will always be a morning (or early afternoon when I don't get out of the house early enough on my days off!) favorite. I have a Smart Car, (As well as my Midgets). It was designed in conjunction with Swatch, the watch people, and made by Mercedes. It is marketed through Smart Centres, and can be ordered over the internet. If you get tired of your chosen colour, all the panels can be changed for another one. It is 2.5 metres (8' 6") long, and is the shortest car on the British roads. Great fun to drive, and no problems with parking!!
