David As I understand it the Black Sheep Brewery is independant and is owned by a member of the Theakston family. He didn't 'get on' with the rest of the family and set up his own brewery next to the family business (hence 'Black Sheep'). The Theakston brewery was sold to Allied & Newcastle some time ago (and its products are not what they once were). The Black Sheep brewery is still going strong... On your next visit to the UK you should visit Masham (pron. Mas-ham) in N Yorkshire which is the site of the Theakston and Black... MORE

The MGF is not a chopped and re-arranged Metro. It is a largar copy of the Honda Beat. Honda and Rover were the same company at the time, which is why Honda would not sell the Beat in the UK. I have a Beat, and have friends who have F's, and you would be amazed at the likeness. Hi Again All, Forgot the bit about ignition in the last post! Did US spec 1500s come with factory fitted electronic ignition!?! We just got clockwork only over in UK I believe? Although apparently you can swap the ignition off an awful BL car called a Meastro, as uses same dizzy but electronic version. Cheers, Phil '79 1500 andhalf a '71 1275 FilMidget@... 3789... MORE

Hi All, 1493cc innit? There are a surprisingly high number of VERY low mileage 1979 Midgets in the UK, as I think people bought one to tuck away safe when it was realised Midget production was coming to an end. Most of them seem to be black (colour of last batch of 250 made or something?) I seem to remember advertised prices of 8000 Sterling (12k Dollars?) - doesn't mean they actually sold at that of course! Even if that 1500 is 117k miles and has been resprayed 3 times, if it looks good (perfect?) now and runs well... MORE

I had my Mk 3 Midget re-shelled some years ago now. The bottom half of the old body was rotten!! I compared the cost of having the old body repaired, and a heritage shell fitted. There was not much difference, so it was suggested to me that I opt for the shell, as that way the whole car would be new metal. Also, if the old one had been repaired, there would always be the risk of rust forming around the joins, and on the weaker bits of the original body. Not to mention the smoothing out of the... MORE

Nah! Most likely she wasn't a "joiner" and had the car for her own pleasure, like me and a few other Spridget owners in my area with the exception of one guy from Greenwich, who owns a real beauty of a Frogeye; a real gorgeous "show" car if there ever was one! Tad, I think you answered the first question yourself, England = Rain! November is a glorious month, all the leaves on the trees are a lovely golden brown, the air is crisp and fresh with a light frost in the mornings... (except in London where it's always damp, foggy and cold) Don't know about the racing, I'm sure other listers will be able to help you with this. F's are quite small, you can get them in most suitcases !! I'm always up for a gallon of beer or two... Stuart Sprite '71 (London) "Stuart Toller" 3725... MORE

hello listers. i have a few questions for those of you on the rainy side of the pond. Myself and the family are traveling to merry old England November 23-30. I think we're going to stay in London but that hasnt been decided for sure at this time. 1. what kind of weather should we pack clothes for? 2. is there any midget racing going on at that time? if so where? hell for that matter any type of racing would be a treat. 3. think i could get an 'F' into my carry-on baggage and smuggled past u.s.... Asked AP Lockheed UK if they could supply the "Set Bolts(?)" and they replied that they buy them in only in sufficient quantity to build the bodies they make. Basically, they wouldn't supply me any new bolts for one of my colleagues. These bolts, like Torsion bars on Minors and MGCs, are designed for one initial application only. "rob thomas" 3937... Finally solved my overheating problem this weekend, I was standing in front of my sprite after fitting some new chokes and jets congratulating myself on the difference they made when I felt a breeze around my legs (I was wearing shorts due to our unusually hot weather here in the UK!). Further investifation revealed that some joker had fitted a mini fan to front of my engine which, instead of sucking cold air in from outside was BLOWING hot air from the engine through the rad. New fan and voila, normal temperatures have been restored... BTW, I mailed Zoe... MORE

While you all have been arguing my total question has gone unanswered. Thanks for listening to the rant. "Jason Gross" 3607... MORE
