Hi there! Sounds like you have the same problem that I have had intermittently for so me years now with Ava, my Mk 3 Midget. (Some of you may remember my cries for help a few months back) Several reputable garages looked at my little Ava to try and locate the problem, but all said there was nothing they could do unless things went wrong while they were testing it. Finally, on the way home from the annual Classics on the Common at the beginning of July, everything went! And I mea n everything!! Everything, that is, except the... MORE

Well thanks for all the useful advice regarding oil pressures. However it looks as though I blown the head gasket!! Engine will not start at all no matter what I do. I took the plugs out and they were soaking wet with.......well something, oil, water, petrol, I cant really tell. I've checked the compression and sadly the results are very diagnostic: cyl 1 180 psi cyl 2 140 psi cyl 3 140 psi cyl 4 170 psi Looks like gasket has blown between 2 & 3, and these are the plugs that are wet!! Paul, To my knowledge it is perfectly normal for the pressure to be high until oil warms up as when it is cold it is more viscous and hence offers more resistance to being pumped round the galleries. As it warms up it becomes more fluid and easier to pump and the pressure indicated drops at idle, then as you rev you are trying to flow a greater quantity through the same galleries and hence pressure goes up again. As to whether your pressures are excessively high I'm afraid I don't have experience of your particular engine but others... MORE
