Thanks mike for your input. My cable has gone at the speedo head end were it is nearly a direct line in, so no stress should be there. the other end from the box is straight thro' the tunnel so again is straight. Many thanks to dave of Cambridge for organising todays run much enjoyed me and grandma.( Wife was unable to attend). Off to france germany and holland next week in the midget, so we are deciding what we can fit into one suitcase, shoes not included. will give you an update on return or via the net... MORE

Hi chaps, I bought the lowered/uprated springs from Moss in UK - 330lbs/inch and -1.5 inch seems familiar, though I could be wrong. Found then fun, but just a touch low, and have since fitted 2mm spacers at bottom of springs. Cheers, Phil FilMidget@... 2549... MORE

Sounds great Mick, I am half way to running my 1275 in (upgraded from a 1098) so I know what it is like to run at low revs. Must be a worse feeling with a 1310 under the bonnet. Happy Spridgeting! Gary King (Newcastle UK) 69 MKIV Sprite "Gary King" 2540... MORE

Make that 1380 :-) My 2c worth. Mine also pinked until set up on rolling road (new bigger jets for the Weber) 116bhp@6300 rpm (286 cam) Also have new sports Distributor, and Luminition. Use Millers ALL THE TIME with super unleaded. Car pinks without it! Important, the rolling road can set the car up for less power without Millers. OR you can use it in the test session and get them to go for 'max power'. Down side is if you get deep in France and runout you limp home at 4000rpm and half throttle to avoid pinking. Go... MORE

Hi Jeff Actually I know Normandy fairly well, I once owned a cottage in the Bay of Mont St Michele and I agree with you 1000%, wonderful part of the world. I shall be spending a few days in Normandy and catching up with some old friends, but I also want to explore further south. I have never taken a Sprite to France before and can only imagine how great it is going to be. Nice to hear from a kindred spirit. Best regards Dave "David Dixon" 2521... MORE

The Lenham Motor Company still exists in Harrietsham, Kent - although they no longer make fibreglass panels for Spridgets. You can still get Lenham panels - I believe a company in Germany produces them... My step-father has a Lenham Le Mans GT MK1 Sprite in the garage which he promises to get back 'on the road' one day... Regards James "James Bilsland" 2498... MORE

Great idea. I think I'll go for the bigger 17" x 35" sunroof, so when it gets really hot I can get more air into my car. I wonder if we bought in bulk, we could get a discount?..............lol Gary King (Newcastle UK) 69 MKIV Sprite "Gary King" 2466... MORE

Hi Guys Is there anyone on this list who lives on the West coast of France, since I will be driving my Sprite along it down to Spain and back over the next couple of weeks. I would be delighted to share a bottle or two of red with a few Spridjeteers along the way. Also has anyone got any suggestions for places not to be missed. British Leyland were aware of the over heating problems and changed the very last (79 onward) of the 1500 midgets by incorporating two large vents in the valence under the bumper to let more air through the radiator. I added these to my 78 and stuck an oil cooler behind them. No problems since. Hi all, I have uploaded some photo's at http://photos.yahoo.com/gaz8555. that I took at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire (UK). Not all of Sprites, but I thought you may like to see them. As last year, it was an exellent day Rowan Atkinson was there (Mr Bean) racing his car, I can't remember the name of the car, sorry, but he only lasted half a lap and crashed his car... .....oop's. Hi, Guys Just thought I would sound-off to the List, since my family isn't into car stuff, and does'nt understand envy, lust, & being happy for another guy - all at the same time. I think you guys will understand. A friend, Fritz (who has a very nice 59 Bugeye as a daily driver) came by the house late yesterday to show me his new "project." Jumped into his Bugeye & drove over to his place (end of LBC content). In his garage is an absolutely gorgeous '58 Mercedes Benz 190 SL convertible! One of his sons had found... MORE

I guess that those of us involved in the UK modified Midget racing scene are the ones who find the book of most interest. I should declare an interest as it is my step-fathers car featured on the cover... (yellow modified Midget). John Baggott has effectively written an account of his own racing experience along with a homage to Steve Everitt who was sadly killed in a road car accident in Greece in 1987. Steve was an amazing guy and dominated UK Midget racing for nearly 10 years. We all knew he could have made it 'to the top'... MORE

Ditto. I managed to break one after a kerbing. Overengineered in terms of weight but extremely solid. See one fitted and you'll worry about all the times you entrusted yourself to that crappy top arm design. Haven't owned a spridget in the last 10 years that didn't eventually get one fitted. Saves you the cost of a kingpin rebuild since I AM CONVINCED IT REDUCES WEAR IN THE BOTTOM LINK sufficiently to pay for itself after about 50000 miles of UK driving.
