Hi all does anyone know where I can buy/borrow a copy( obviously not wanting to contrevene any copyright issues) of the BBC's the car's the star (the one about a frogeye). Hi Guys I saw the recent diagnostic thing on the list, sorry but I forget who posted it, tried it and found I have dodgy wheel bearings on the near side. Thanks to whoever it was who posted it coz I thought it was kingpins and bearings are much easier. The only thing is when I got it all stripped down (about 30 mins) I found the bearings were not only worn but they were loose in the hubs, I think the only solution is to replace the hubs. Is this a common problem and is there any other... MORE

I just wear a baseball cap pulled down to my sunglasses. What I have been looking for is what I believe is called an English golf cap.. It looks similar to a beret with a short bill in the front. If anyone can tell me where to get one, I would much appreciate it. By the way, I live in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rick "Acosta" 1754... MORE

Hi Terry not sure about the sun visor thing, but it's great to have that problem again here in the good old UK. Happy Motoring Dave "David Dixon" 1735... MORE

I find a golfing visor works well. Or failing that, a baseball cap with a large peak. Margaret South Lincolnshire (UK) Between two evils, always pick the one you never tried before. mmbrock88@... 1736... MORE

Hello from Down Under, My Mk 4 sprite is nearing the paint stage ,having been fixed after its recent attempt on my well being. Does anyone on the list have any experience of "Hammertex" or "Hammertite" paint? It seems as good thing to paint the underside of the car with,it has a textured ( hammered) finish, and seems virtually" un chippable". I have been told that it is commonly used on the underside of rally cars,if it is so good, why is it not used all the time? Regards Chris B Perth, Western Australia "chris broughton" 1720... MORE

Having just purchased our first Midget (1969 Mk III pre-face lift), is there anyone close to the middle of the UK (we live near Warwick), who would like to realise a little cash by selling me their MIG welder? Also I need rear floors (or complete full length panels) and heelboard/ rear bulkhead/ spring boxes? Anybody got any surplus panels please? I shall then have more to spend on other items later on during the (no doubt expensive) restoration... "Graham Roberts" 1717... MORE

I thought the whole purpose of the internet was to rip off other peoples ideas or should that be using others experience to your advantage The very nature of a hints and tips list means that it is a compilation of ideas from a variety of sources BCSC don't claim on their list to have invented the hints, they have listed them for our convenience quote" BCSC have used a comprehensive list of tips for sprite owners" John Fowlers List must also be a compilation and as such is not an original idea therefore accusations of plagiarism are unfounded... I took a look at this site and I am *very* unimpressed. The page http://www.bcsc.co.uk/sprite2.htm titled "Sprite Maintenance and Improvement Hints" is a thinly edited and totally uncredited version of John Fowler's 1979 article for the Austin Healey Sprite Drivers Club ( http://reality.sgi.com/ahsdc ) magazine "Goblins' Gazette". The article is also titled "Spridget Maintenance and Improvement Hints" and can be found at http://reality.sgi.com/ahsdc/goblins/tech/modify.htm This article has been on the web since 1994. This is extremely unethical. Shame on you Jonathan Peck and BCSC you are plagiarisers. I have a printed copy of the web page in question and CC'd... MORE

Went and looked at an interesting Midget last night with the possible intention to buy. It was a 1977 1500 but by 94 it was knackered. So the owner decided to restore it. (This is in the UK). Instead of restoring it back to standard she restored it as a 68. With chrome bumpers etc. Leather seats. Walnut Dash. Its a light metallica blue. Still the original 1500 motor but with a spitfire overdrive gearbox. Used original body although usual stuff like sills floors, basically the whole front from the back of the doors forward was replaced. However since... MORE

Hello this my first question for the list. I am having problems with changing gear when the engine is fully warmed up. It is fine when cold but very difficult when hot. I have bled the clutch but still no change. The bite on the clutch is very near the bottom anyway. Any ideas? Its it possible to adjust where the bite comes? Greetings. Does anyone out there know of a bright red Frogeye(with pure white upholtery including roll over bar cover) it's very distinctive. I think the licence no contains the word "hog". I saw it parked outside a condo in Key West during Bike Week about five years ago. It's the reason I now own a frogeye. I'm sorry, but as a Yankee, I must stand up for the Public Transport system in UK. Although there are many faults with your system, I find it much easier and convient to use than our system. I live about 6 miles outside of Philadelphia PA and yet getting into the city is a real mess and often it is just easier to drive in rather than try to take the dirty, irregular and often late system. While in both London and Newcastle (upon Tyne) I used the public transport system to go as far as Stratford Upon Avon... MORE

David, Really sorry to read in your last note that you will not be able to do what you want to do, but that just goes to show how appalling Public Transport is here in the UK! It really doesn't do much to inspire confidence in the transport system, in either us Brits, or overseas travellers when our transport services show such a lack of cohesion and inability to provide a workable system! LONG LIVE THE CAR! Paul. paul@... 1653... MORE

Mike - I was told by Keith Brading the ride height for the driver's side was 24" from ground to inside top of wheel arch, with the passenger side 1/2" lower. But I run mine slightly higher and both the same. It seems to work fine and gives a fraction more clearance between my backside and the road! The originals were certainly a touch tail high - though they didn't seem to stay that way for very long. Regards, Paul Lawton Healey Frogeye Cheshire, UK LAWTONPaullawton@... 1643... MORE
