Hi Gary, You might like to join the MG Owners Club, they have a very extensive spares catalogue with many "standard" modifications for midgets etc...........just a thought ;-) From TVR to Midget the mind boggles, mind you you might like to convert your Midget to an Arkley, you would be surprised just how close a relationship there is between Arkley and TVR!! Regards Paul Arkley SS 1972 Midget 1275 see mine at http://www.tyzacks.co.uk/Arkley/Arkley.htm paul@... 785... MORE

Tim, Hi. Er......no I'm cheating, I have sourced replacement panels from MGOC, even so they are still not simple to fix and there is quite a lot of "Adjustment" required, but nothing like making panels your self.......well done! I'm working on a Midget MkIII 1972 1275, converted to an Arkley SS, you can see it at http://www.tyzacks.co.uk/Arkley/Arkley.htm, if you wish ;-). So far the job has gone fairly painlessly, though it is taking much longer than I'd planned.......but don't all "simple" jobs?! Hopefully it will look quite good when completed I'll probably post a pic or two when done.... MORE

Can anyone get for me the part number of the rear cylinders for the frogeye? I think I am looking at a cylinder with a 3/4 inch internal bore (against the Minor 13/16 or 7/8). I have some with Lockheed 84946c, or similar, cast into them and am wondering if they are frogeye ones. I need some with a 3/4 bore for the 8-inch rear brake kits and have not been able to locate the source of the only 3/4 i've got. Any Lockheed 90323 ones would be great as they also have a bleed niple cast into them.... MORE

Got photos of the 8-inch rear and 9 inch front brakes for the spridget, if anyone is in an 'anorak' mood. 9-inch front JUST fits inside an early (frogeye etc) wheel rim. Need to find an A35/Frog stubaxle etc to trial fit it. Anyone near Cardiff? Rear brakes are already on a spare Midget casing, ready to swop over on my '72 when I change the axle to get a lower diff ratio. Not so messy to change the entire axle and less chance of getting oil leaks. "rob thomas" 728... MORE

I've just posted a dozen sets to Tom Stone (on this list) in St Louis (Missououroieyie). Save the cost of UK-US postage? Might be going on E-bay? I can get about 100 more sets if anyone is interested? Timing marks either in the standard (invisible ) position or with new positioning at the 11 o'clock position so you can see the marks whilst setting the distributor. New rubber damped pulleys, too! PS Tom is CC'd, if you want to contact him. "rob thomas" 720... MORE

To narrow the source of the noise down, take the rocker cover off, fire (sorry, start) the engine up and place a LONG screwdriver (or length of copper central heating pipe - or as mentioned before, a sawn down broom handle)on the center of the rocker and the other end at your ear. (I use a screwdriver and place the handle on the bone just in front of my ear - for the pedants on line; No, I don't peel the skin and flesh back first!) You will hear all sorts of noises so listen and learn from each... MORE

Jim Your thinking is about right the rib case box you have should be fine for now but any aggressive use with a good 1380 engine can break them, the five speed option gives a strong reliable set up and gives an overdrive top gear of .82 : 1 this equates to a drop in revs of just under 20% in top compared with the old rib case, as for strength we are now running cars with around 200bhp and not breaking them. As for suspension and brake upgrades if you are going to do a lot of miles... MORE

Ed Cam follower Sometimes called 'tappets' as in 'tappet chest cover' (see previous thread on difference between 1275 & 1098...) Bucket shaped item made of chilled iron which sits on the lobe of the camshaft and which, in turn, the pushrod sits in. Definitely not adjustable! Jim It really depends on the spec of your engine. I do suspect however that you will end up breaking your 1275 gearbox - they aren't designed to put up with the torque of a 1380... I can't advise on which 5 speed to run as I have no experience with that type of conversion however your gearing will depend on what the 5th gear ratio is. Most 5 speed boxes have a 1:1 4th gear and an 'overdrive' 5th. This means that you will probably be overgearing your car (and thereby losing performance) with a 3.7 - suggest... MORE

Hi Bob, I'm doing exactly the same at the moment to mt Arkley based on an MG Midget MkIII, I have sourced my carpets from Prestige Autotrim. When you buy carpets from them you can buy a full kit Piece by piece of sound proofing felt 1/2" thick, which should do the job quite well. I'm pretty sure that you could buy the sound proofing on its own. You do not say where you live but you might like to try this web site: http://www.prestigeautotrim.com/ I believe they have USA base. I also used some sound deadening panels to... MORE

I know it was discussed at great length last year but since then I've had 'Houston problems' with my hard drive etc which led to me loosing all the info, so can someone remind me of the company offered by most last year. I was with Peart in NI but the other prices talked about last year always seemed cheaper than what I was paying. Also we are going to Canada in May ,Calgary to Vancouver, are there any spridgets out there, it could be good to see some with the fifth wheel on the other side ( of... MORE

I could be wrong (particularly in respect of US cars) but I don't think that a fuel filter is a standard fitment on an A series Spridget. Best place for an in line filter is between the fuel tank and the fuel pump (which is of course 'conveniently placed' under the car next to the right hand rear shock absorber...) Hi from Canada. Two years ago I purchased a 75 Midget (49,000 miles), someone had swapped out the original alternator along with the MG Midget pulley. It squealed loudly when the belt was correctly tightened, but to hear one self in the car, the belt was so loose that it discharged / and the car over heated.. I could buy a new Lucas alternator ... but none came with the pulley. The solution I came up with was to install an alternator from a 1976 General Motors Truck (60 Amps, typically works flawlessly for a decade, inexpensive at $50.00... MORE

I am in St John Ambulance, and go 'on duty' as often as possible throughout the season. Last year was my first season, (having just moved here from 'down south') covering the Superbikes, and one meeting of the 650 club, (Caterams etc) but this year it will be cars as well.
