G'day Jeremy I can supply a "pedal pivot repair kit" (two sintered bronze bushes and a new pivot bolt) for $24 USD including postage. regards Colin "Colin@SpriteParts" 22676... MORE

I had my MC sleeved with brass but there seems to be a problem the pistons don't move freely. I know that the bores need to be opened up a little. How do you know when enough material has been removed? I planned on using 600 grit wrapped around a dowel with tape to make up the difference. Also there are two small holes into each bore from the top are both supposed to be open? Thanks for your help, the 65 Sprite is getting very close to being reborn. Martyn "snook32907" 22677... MORE

Hi; I was hoping you will be able to help. I was out today with my '61 bugeye. First gear has always been noisy, today as the revs climbed, the noise became almost a banging from the rear of the trans tunnel? Noise disappears when shifting up to 2nd. thanks Michael (Iver28) Rifton, NY. mcmcsey@... 22680... MORE

Jeremy, et al. Any good machine shop should be able to make you a set of bushings for your pedal pivot points. I have made numerous bushings for other applications out of a porduct called (in the business) Oil-lite (sp)......it is a medium hardness red brass alloy impregnated with oil. We have used it here at the plant for years for babbit type bearings on applications much more demanding than our brake pedals. Just my tuppence worth. David A. Well, John... You've got a normal Sprite, then. LHD ones develop a list to the left...theory is over time, the Unibody structure takes a "set" and since it is normally the driver's side which is occupied the most, that's the way the body can be expected to go. The "stock" rear springs were too stiff for the car to begin with ...the 10 leaf are worse in this respect. You can take the car to a spring shop and see what they can do for you. I am not a "spring man" so I do not really know... but... MORE

As there was a thread recently regarding front end alignment, beginning with message 22461, I have posted a couple of photos of a simple apparatus that I used this week to estimate and rough-in the toe in on my Sprite this week, in case it might be useful. The apparatus comprises a 48" construction ruler, and a pair of 18" x 24" L squares. The short legs of the L squares are clamped to the opposite ends of the ruler, such that the long legs extend outwardly from the ruler and parallel to each other, such edges being separated... MORE

G'day Dermot There were two different 1098cc engines. The first ones (engine prefix 10CG in a Sprite/Midget) had the same 1.75" main bearing journals, and the same bolt pattern on the flywheel/crankshaft, as the 948cc engine. These engines were fitted to Mk II Sprites, Mk I MG Midgets, Morris Minor 1000 and Austin A40 Farina. The engines were all essentially the same except the Sprite had a different cam grind, and double valve springs. And of course twin SU carbies. It soon became apparent that the crankshafts weren't strong enough for the increase in capacity, so the next generation... MORE

They look very official, logos and all. I have received them in the past and have spoken to ebay. They say they will never send such mail for account information. As Bob states forward the fraud emails to ebay. I have also received official looking ones from PayPal which are also attempts to gain credit card information. Beware is the word. If we all just use the same last name, wear cowboy hats and somehow all fit into the Spridget, I'll bet somebody in Texas or San Francisco will let us stay for free, just to get us out of sight of their regular customers. The last time I was in San Francisco the desk clerks asked me to say Ya'll and Awl (oil) for them everytime I came into the lobby. I finally just went and set on pier 39 with the seals until the novelty wore off. Then they got me on "fixin' to". "I'm fixin to buy... MORE

Bill, When you say 'Gold' do you mean yellow (Yellow Ochre in BL-ese) or brown? (Autmn Leaf) In 1973 the interior colours changed from black and Autumn Leaf to Navy and Yellow Ochre so you might have either. I'm not 100% sure of which body colours had which interiors as I've lent my Original Sprite and Midget book to a guy in work. The colours available over this period (and my recollection of which interior colour they came with) were: Black (Autumn Leaf or Black/Navy, never Yellow Ochre?) Glacier White (Aut. Leaf or Black/Navy) Bronze Yellow (Black/Navy) Harvest Gold... MORE

How about the Californian gets flown to London to meet Jeremy who drives him about Great Britain for a week before we meet up with Jim who carries the tool box as we all fly back to San Francisco where of course I will have to show them around for a week or so before we take the roll bar to Texas to install it. Naturally Jeremy and Jim will have to see the sights of Austin. I will rent a car, drive them to see New Orleans where they catch a plane back to London. I will visit... MORE

Does anyone have any idea where I might find a roll bar for a '63 Sprite? I'm not going racing or anything like that, I'm just trying to recreate the look of a car that I had in college. I'd like to be able to put the top up if I have to.(though I haven't yet) Everything I've seen is for later models. Also, Colin, if you're out there, did I mention that the master cylinder had already been re- sleeved and the rebuild kit worked fine? Thanks for the info. Thanks, Jack Texas "austinbud2002" 22541... HI Jack, I have one that I removed from my 63 MK1 which to the best of knowledge would be the same as for the 63 Sprite. Check group photos in folder "Don May" to see my 63 before I took the roll bar off. Is that what you remember yours looking like? Have no idea where you would find a new one. Perhaps someone else on the list will. The top does fit over it. Should you not find one locally contact me off list an perhaps we can work something out. Not sure how a person goes... MORE

Guys.... Alan.East-Jones is looking to buy a BE here in the states and bring it over to the UK. He's found what appears to be a restored BE located in Manchester, NH. Are there any listers in that area who might be willing to take a look at the car on his behalf? Isn't there a Bugeye pro rebuilding shop up there in that area? Cap'n. Well... I don't think he is pulling your leg, David... rather, I think there is a misunderstanding. Moisture in brake fluid is, as far as I know, a bad thing in any event. Non-silicone fluids hold moisture in suspension whereas the silicone stuff does not. So, you could say silicone, by allowing the moisture to puddle at system low points (like the calipers wherein the moisture can cause corrosion!) keeps the moisture "away" from the rubber seals? Which one is worse when it comes to corrosion, is anyone's guess insofar as your's truly has no idea!! Loods like your... MORE
