Hi guys Some of you may have come across this book before, I hadn't until I spotted =3D=0D one on ebay recently and bought it. It arrived this morning and I have to s =3D=0D ay - it's quite superb, by far one of the best books I've ever seen on restoring =3D=0D Midgets and Sprites. It's strength lies in the detail it goes into in pretty much all aspects of =3D=0D restoring Sprites - particularly the components. What is does not deal with is bodywork. It's really written for the person =3D=0D who is re-shelling their car with... MORE

I have recently purchased a 1978 MG Midget rally sport with limited edition plate on dash. The part catalogs dont differentiate this edition. What is different about this car from the standard models? "westect" 20238... MORE

Steve You need to have it checked thoroughly. I'd never buy a Sprite sight unseen - way too risky. It's very very easy indeed to tart these cars up cosmetically to look good, with festering rotten bodywork lurking underneath. I was very thorough when I checked out my Midget before I bought it, and since I've been working on it, it's a lot worse than I expected rust wise. Take what I'm saying with the caveat that my experience of these cars are limited to those in England where many have lived a hard life and been driven in... MORE

James, That looks like your turn signal relay. It should have a light green/brown and a green wire connected to it. The other night I was thinking '67 not '76. I have a 65 Midget that's coming out of the shop today with a new coat of paint. This is a total rebuild that I'm having to do a little at a time. Right now, I'm just concerned with making her rust resistant. I need an alignment. Can any alignment shop do this or do I need someone that works on older european cars? "Virginia" 20208... MORE

Please could I get someone to open the bonnet on there car a look at the fuse block right behind it there's a relay, and tell me the color of the wires, and if possble their termination points. Respectfully submitted..............................Proud 76 owner James in Tn. "jboyd8" 20201... MORE

Yes, Ottawa does seem like a place LBCs would cave in to the courtship of rust. I have stressed this point with the seller. He claims it has never been winter driven and he has the full history of the car. Of course, there's no way to know what POs did, but in the end the question is whether there is rust or not. I have asked if there is a suitable specialist near him who could pay to inspect the car. There is not, but he does know of a GM mechanic who apparently restores MGs in his... MORE

Hi everyone. I have a '79 Midget 1500 which I have been working on getting roadworthy for many months. Car has orig. ZS150CD4T carb with water choke, first the history: Cleaned out tank All new rubber fuel hoses New mech fuel pump carb has had basic rebuild incl. gaskets, cleaning, new gross jet, choke made operational, new decel bypass valve(which did not work so now holes are taped off) manifold is tight, not to mention everything else, tune up, timing set, etc. Problem: Car starts ok, will idle fine, I have let it idle for a 1/2 hour at a time. It does seem odd to buy a car in Canada from California, doesn't it? I've been checking eBay and Collector Car Trader online, and it's amazing what a dearth of cars there are listed from California. I just wonder if they're easier to sell in warmer climes or something. Don just offered the advice of checking craigslist here in the bay area, so that is a great tip. I am looking for an early 70's mkIII, round wheel arches a bonus, and in the best condition possible. I know, it may be a tall order. The TR6 has taught... MORE

90% sure the one I purchased did. I didn't fit it myself so that's why only 90% sure. Pretty sure it was a heritage part. I'd just ask your supplier to be sure. "Tim R." 20174... MORE

Brad I missed your posts about the luggage rack but strongly agree. I am in the process of purchasing a new rebuild project which has one which I will be looking to sell. The final haggle will take place tomorrow and so assuming everything goes to plan I will have the rack in the next week or so. Not sure which side of the pond you are I am in the UK. Yes, but without the unicycle or mountain. Honestly, it all depends on how long your legs are and how much you weigh. Snug but comfortable if you are an "average" 6 footer. Bill - I have the tendency to be impatient in wanting to get back on the road too. The only encouragement I can give you is to say that if you are very meticulous in following the SU rebuilding and tuning instructions, you will find that the SUs are really very good carburetors, and your car will start easily and run great for a long time if you do the job carefully. An extra hour or two spent now will result in many pleasant hours on the road. Try to see whether you can rebuild your carbs so well... MORE

There shouldn't be more than a slight rub. Depress and release the brake pedal a few times and see what you've got. You should be able to spin the hub with one finger and no more than slight rub. If it's more than that, there's something wrong. If the brakes were working okay before you changed the pads, you'll probably find rust and crud in the calipers is preventing the pistons from moving freely. They may have been okay before, but when you push the pistons back, you get into areas on the pistons which have been exposed to... MORE

No kidding, Martyn Eastwood.... I would have thought with your last name you would have purchased Eastwood's cold galvenizing paint!! :):) But, seriously, thanx for the tip. I did not think there was truly a paint out there that would truly hold up to the heat over time... nice to know!! :) Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 20125... MORE

Ah, OK!! The paint is for looks and protection of the metal until it gets used...then the paint will flake off due to heat and the natural finish will show through. In time, the natural metal will of course, rust a bit. But this happens to some extent even on professionally coated headers as well. So....you got your wish. Natural finish... no paint!! Cap'n. Jukka... I think you are referring to the old Castrol "R" which was used many years ago before the advent of synthetics. However, I will leave this to fellow listers over here who are currently racing their machines and probably know more about this than I. Suffice to say you should do a websearch on "automotive racing oils" to bring your- self current on what is available today.... motor oil technology has come a long way in the last 40-50 years and I think most large companies such as Castrol, Mobile & Valvoline along with the smaller firms such... Cleaned up the two running toys, and went to a local "park and gab"session. No registration fee, no dash plaques, and no judging. Just a chance for anyone with any interest to stop, wander in, and talk about cars. Of course, all the kids come running to the Sprites, and I had more than a few parents hang around and chat for a half hour or better. I was sitting down when a guy and his son came up. The son stood by the 68 and dad went off a few steps to snap a photo. I immediately jumped... MORE

New fulcrum pin repair kit arrived yesterday. Looked at the bushings. Odd looking collection, only two looked like the stock ones or the photos in the catalogue. What I can only assume are the inter arm bushings are not the style in my BMC repair manual, do not look like the stock ones pictured in the moss catalogue or the ones I removed. No metal flange/washer on one end, just a straight metal tube through the rubber bushing, which would indicate that the rubber rubs against the inside of the arms rather than the metal flange ends on the...
