Yes Don, They are fundamentally the same, but the 1275 is different in quite a few areas including torque specs. If you plan to rebuild the engine, you will need 1275 specifics. You can get by with the Haynes I suppose, but I find so much inaccurate info in it, I don't trust it. Gerard "gerardchateau " 17047... MORE

Hey all, Just uploaded pics of my Midget. It's still for sale! I've practically rebuilt everything you can name. I have over $2,000.00 in parts reciepts and quite a few spares in the boot. New Leopard print upholstery. Just needs paint and someone to love it. Check out the pics in the album titled "Bela's Midget". Make me an offer I can't refuse! TTFN... Starting to work on a 1275 engine from an early 1969 MKIII that has been sitting for 23 years. In good shape when last ran. From the look of the plugs when I pulled them it was in good tune at the time it last ran. The air injector pump is frozen solid and had no belt to it. I have no desire to leave the emission controls in except for the crankcase breather as they are no longer required for that age car. Does anyone have any tips I should know about or can point me to a... MORE

I added some pictures of the problem. They can be seen at http://community.webshots.com/album/57232965sMPerg It could be a factory issue. The paint is a perfect match inside and out. The hinge bolts are scuffed where someone has adjusted the lid, but there is no obvious sign of a replacement. Thanks Mark Howard "mbhnm " 16995... MORE

Mark, you've probably got a totally original factory fit one - if it fits well, it's probably been altered! Seriously, yours does sound a bit worse than normal. As Ashley Hinton says elswhere, try it with a new seal and don't forget the four rubber buffer blocks that fit in the body channel on the hinge side and latch side. Then adjust the hinges. The trunk lid on my 1972 Midget does not fit properly. The trunk lid appears more squarish than the body, the body is a little more rounded in the hinge and latch area. The lid rubs at the top center and sticks out (from the body) about an inch on either of the lower corners. In the latch area the body sticks out about half an inch past the lid. There does not appear to be any body damage in this area so I assume that someone replaced the trunk lid with the wrong one at sometime even though... MORE

Hi all, Just had a panicky call from my wife informing me that her brake lights on our 1500 don't work (her daily driver). Going to swing by Halfords on the way home but being at work and without my Haynes I have no idea what rating? Could anyone help? Also I'm aware that it could also be the switch itself that has packed up, does anyone have any diagnostic tips? Have to get this done tonight before she goes to work tomorrow or my life will not be worth living :-) Thanks in advance, AW Newcastle UK ****************************************************************************... I was looking at my car real close and comparing it to the pictures in my book tonight, and noticed a few things I hadn't before. You can see where the catalytic converter has been cut off, and a short piece of pipe has been welded in place. Also the air pump is missing. The only traces are the original air pump mounting holes and the pulley that once attached to the belt driving it. If i'm drawing the right conclusions, the air pump doesnt help the performance of the car in any way, it's just another thing for... MORE

In answer to your question about aviation, I very much regret to say that my answer must be in the negative. :-( I always wanted to be a pilot, but due to a small problem with the differentiation of very pale red/green I was never allowed to sit at the sharp end of one of those rather beautiful machines that fly, at least, not in the services, and all the other jobs were a bit of a let down after that. One of the things that I have always wanted to do. A bit senior for it now. As... MORE

Mum has a black (with red trim) mk2 Midget which we have good reason to believe was black from new. Graham Paddy (co founder of the organisation that eventually became Moss in the UK) told us that there were a very few black factory cars. "Jeremy Cogman" 16945... MORE

Don, I read all the posts on this topic. Where is it cracked... rim or at the spokes? You mean to tell me this guy is a vintage car enthusiast and he behaved this way after you graciously let him stuff his stout (fat ass) into your car? No one else here, other than you and I, know just what condition your wheel was/is in, so they won't fully appreciate your anguish. I've also seen how beautifully you restore the old radios. I'd ask the guy to pay for it to be fixed. Gerard "gerardchateau" 16924... MORE

Don, I too am the proud owner of an original steering wheel. Its on my 60, and it had minor cracks and pits. Its amazing what some of the compounds will do to fill in and cover then with a little paint it satisfied the 5 year old in me not to have to look at it the way it was. I know it not for the purist but we are talking 5 year olds here. And as someone once said " looks are deceiving" . Happy holidays Bob 60 AN5 Tampa MTGBRKR1@... 16892... MORE

I have a 1960 Bugeye with original brakes on the back and disk brakes on the front. Last year I rebuilt the calipers, put on new pads, rotors, hoses, brake shoes, and rear brake cylinders. In short, I think I did everything I can except the master cylinder. The brakes are orders of magnitude better than when I started. However, I still have to push pretty hard to get the car to stop, and a "panic" stop would be difficult. Is this just the nature of the sprite brakes, or am I likely to get significant improvement by replacing... MORE

Keep in mind that Dex-Cool is not compatible with the old standard stuff - be sure to do a complete flush. Additionally, I have experienced situations where regular antifreeze was used in a Dex-Cool application that resulted in a major reaction with some of the wet metal components (thermostats eaten away to almost nothing, water pump impellers destroyed, etc.) Israel "Israel Engle" 16865... Re the bonnet chrome strip (moulding). The last MG Midget to have this is a 1968 Mk3. The side chrome strips on the wings: the last car to have this is 1969 So a 1965 MG Midget Mk2 must have all the chrome strips. You can get the side chrome strips but you can not get the chrome bonnet strip (moulding) part no. 14A7074 but you are in luck I have the last one. On the panel behind the battery tray: no hole in the middle, you must have rust in the panel. from Ashley Hinton my web site... MORE

Hi all, Just wondering if there's a possibility that my Midget came from the factory without the chrome bonnet and side strips? It's a Midget MKII (1965) and I cannot find any holes in the front fenders/wings nor the bonnet/hood. Maybe these parts were replace due to an accident, or could they be original? Some more questions: - Could someone provide me with a detailed picture of the Midget firewall? I'm particularly interested in details around the rain-gutters (are they always so messy / dented? especially the ones on the outer sides) and the protruding shapes in the firewall... MORE

really sure that its M11 thread. That must be one of the most NON Standard metric threads around. Go with a 7/!6" UNF plug tap and some grub screws (set screws) Retaian with high temp thread lock.
