Or I do have 2 qts of Vermilion Red (bright Orange), Chromabase and you apply a second coat of clear to really bring out the shine. It is an original MG color. I had it mixed at $118. per quart and changed my mind. Make offer. Bob, Portland, OR "Robert Webb" 16762... MORE

The only silver Spridget I ever saw looked really nice. Not too shiney metallic, a fairly flat silver like racing Porsches of the 50's and 60's. Mum's car is a rare factory painted black mk2 Midget and that looks nice. Or if you are not shy how about McLaren orange. "Jeremy Cogman" 16761... MORE

The haynes manual has an excellent section on this though the factory manual is a bit brief. Everyone speaks well of the bentley manual so I uspect that this is good too. "Jeremy Cogman" 16760... MORE

just curious, I'm spending the winter sanding and fixing everything wrong on the body. I'll be ready to paint it in the spring. My question is, if your midget could be any color, what color would it be? I am not leaning towards anything, I just wanted to get some opinions... thanks... "chuibuddy" 16750... MORE

Interesting point. The website http://www.mgcars.org.uk/midgetspriteclub/sprite/spriteaus.htm though lists YHAN 1 as bieng Australian. I have the heritage certificate somewhere, which confirms that it was a CKD kit. If you want more information, give Colin Dodds an email. Hi Chaps! Took the Midget out on the road for a test drive today after a year- long mechanical rebuild (rebore, pistons, etc ). All seems to work OK, although I really shouldn't have painted the exhaust manifold! Drove proudly around for a couple of miles getting used to the new single-box exhaust note with the bonnet (hood) removed to let the remainder of the paint burn off the manifold. Felt a bit less proud when a little lad said to his mum, 'Oh, what a poor car'. Anyway, one peculiarity I'd welcome some help on. Having checked the... MORE

I have a 1974 MG Midget with a four-speed that needs to be rebuilt. Does anybody in the Chicagoland area have a shop that they could recommend? DSutteiii@... 16691... MORE

You know, Dave Jacobs... That's what I thought, too. Figured an A or B box with 1st locked out, but the Metropolitan's box has a non-synchro first and is column mounted instead. Maybe it's an A or B box with 4th locked out through a higher diff? I am not knowing but supposedly, this is all standard Austin A 50 running gear according to Slightly Classics. The truck-like floor mounted handbrake on the extreme left side of the driver's compartment (LHD) was sort of unexpected, as well. Very cool little car! Cap'n. Much appreciated, Brad. Engine oil it is. But now we are not too sure it's an MGA gearbox at all though we know that its an the engine is a "15F-H-" model. You see, it powers an original 1960 Nash Metropolitan!! ("Beep, beep.... beep, beep....his horn went beep, beep, beep.......!") Anyone have a clue as to what gearbox was hooked up to the MGA Series "B" type that came factory installed in these cool little cars (not that anyone should, but......!:) Cap'n. Yo!! Anyone owning one of these great cars... Could you tell me the factory recommended gearbox lubricant for this type? For the "B" I know it was motor oil but for the "A", I can't recall whether it's the same or gear oil. TIA! :) Cap'n. Bob (Ret'd) '60 Frog PilotRob@... 16656... MORE

Right on the money Bob! I want a daily driver that will be able to jump on the interstate and cruise flawlessly, or run down to the parts house to fetch parts for the truck, or whatever. I'm not interested in a racer right now. The last one I built was just too damn scary! For a driver that is... So I' interested mainly in low end and mid-range performance. The ZS on my 1500 is the 150 I think. The throat meaures 1 3/8". Which I believe is the 38 mm carb. It uses the smaller diaphragm in... MORE

David, Your are correct. I forgot about that and was just figuring max flow rate. Good for a two stroke SAAB but not for our 4 stokes!!!!!! I stand corrected. I thought the numbers looked high but the math (I was using) worked. Well, Neson- From the way I understand it, most add on stuff is designed to be negatively grounded anyway. Sure, you can change it around to positive when installed, but...! Rust-wise, I am told that negative ground is better in this respect, but I'll be damned if I can remember why! :) We need a metalurgy type, here, who can explain this....most definitely I need one!:) Cap'n. Understand, Biff. I, too, am trying to get a "feel" for this considering I'm going to a 1.75 HIF44 for my 1293, from the stock 1.25 set-up. It's got the aluminum head which is supposed to flow 30% better than stock so the flow figures for a 1500cc motor might be more or less applicable. Don't really know though. Cap'n. Cap'n. Bob (Ret'd) wrote "211 cubic feet per minute" Is this WOT at redline? No that was figured at 4000 rpm. Redline would be higher. Not having a 1500cc tach available I used his 4000 rpm (self imposed redline?) to compute the 211+ cubic feet per minute. 5000rpm = 264cfpm 5500rpm = 291cfpm 6000rpm = 317cfpm 6500rpm = 344cfpm Of course these figures assume 100% breathing. Real or actual cubic feet per minute flow figures would be less. I have been doing my homework trying to figure out what CFM my 1500 really needs. According to the formulas I found on this page (figuring my engine has 91.5 CID) I only need 106 cfm at 4,000 RPM. Does this sound right to everyone? Are my calculations wrong, or have I missed something? I found a great deal on a brand new 35mm Mikuni that I am hoping will solve all of my headaches. Is this carb too small? I bow to the wisdom of the board. Beladona 78 MG Midget 1500 Redlands, CA PS- As far as... MORE

Given the choice, i'm probably a "drive it guy," trying to enjoy the car while making it last. (heck i replaced the big heater air-duct under the hood with a piece of 4"clothes-dryer exhaust tubing, which works well, so i'm not really trying to get it to "factory specs") This little sliding pin in the "brake warning box"... does it also function as a shut-shut off when half the system goes out to prevent further fluid and braking loss, or is the "shutting off" i have experienced just a coincedental consequence? Guys- I forget which site we were having a discussion last week on Judson blowers, so I am forwarding this message on octanes used in a high compression 948cc motor installed in a racing Bugeye owned by Jacques LeClainche who belongs to the Spridget Autox.Team List. This motor is most likely runnng between 13.0-14.0 to 1 as are a lot of racing Series "A"'s running "O-ringed" today. What makes the post interesting is that 30-32 degrees of total ignition advance (which is the normal total for a stock 8.8-1 1275 using normally available premium pump octanes) is still being... MORE
