Brian, The ticket you buy to get you in the gate also gets you into the paddock. Not bad for $60 eh? Also $10 parking fee is waived if more than 4 in a vehicle. In a related issue 2 privateer Lola/MGs are confirmed entries. Unfortunately no factory team :( So far that is 3 of us confirmed. Anybody else? Tad R. Hi Mike, There is a later style package tray in the passenger foowell. Tnough of a glovebox for me especially with the door pockets. The clock is a rather large unit actually. It's out of an early Chrysler vehicle (new at the time), when that was the only "digital displays" we knew...'-) Today I'd redesign it with something much more compact. Too bad that's the only photo I have with it partially disassembled. I took it when I was disassembling the car for a second round restoration in the late 70's. See my earlier post in reply to Robert... MORE

does anyone know of a supplier here in the US of the color coded wire used by BMC? I want to add a circuit or two to my BE and want to keep the wire coding identical to later models. thanks ken horner "pblock4x4" 8374... MORE

Fellow Frogsters- Came across a restored 1958 Leaf Green Bugeye at the local Volvo dealer's "preowned" lot here in Stamford, CT. (800-281-8658, 203-978-5780 or www.stamfordvolvo.com) Car is spitting image of mine except for wire wheels but unlike mine is a "9+" on a scale of "10"! Absolutely no rust anywhere however, car is recent respray. Floors appear to be original unless somebody did an absolutely first class full floor welding job (always possible). Car is absolutely immaculate inside, outside and under bonnet, wherein all looks original. Body and engine ID plates missing. Did not get to check VIN number... MORE

Thanks RH, I made this dash by hand around 1970. It is 1/2 black walnut with the edge doubled to 1 inch thickness so I could create the same beveled profile as the original dash. The contours are identical to the original. All the gauges are coutersunk and there is a maplight and power antennae switch tucked into the recess above the ignition switch. The lighting knob is also hand made from black walnut and is identical to the original. All the switches are original except for the toggles in the console section. Notice the notched out area where... MORE

All. with a little help from my friends on the bugeye list I have succeeded in planning out the install of an SU pump on my '61 Bug and getting the correct brackets. This question is for you later model owners with a factory installed version. The pump has a vent nipple on the diaphragm. The parts book shows a tube attached to the pump and ending in a tee fitting. Where does the tube go? The only thing I can think of is that this is an engineer's dream to keep the pump working at atmospheric pressure if... MORE

Earlier I posted that I have used Moss' product to stop a rust problem in my Sprite's fuel tank, which it has done for twelve years with no new rust, cracks, or separation from the tank. I also remembered that I used the stuff to seal up a porous fuel tank on a kerosine heater, and that has been entirely successful too. One tip: after you have washed out the tank, it will take a long time to dry completely, especially in the seams if you just prop it up in a corner of the garage. Borrow (while she's... MORE

Gerard: JB Weld is probably not the best choice for repairing fuel tanks, as gasoline will eventually soften the epoxy. I'd suggest you try one of the fuel tank slushing compounds. I used Moss' stuff in my tank many years ago, and it still looks perfect. My tank did not have pinholes, but I wanted to stop the rust, and it has done an admirable job of that. It's pretty thick stuff, about like diff oil, and it dries fast, so it might well stop pinhole leaks. Bill Hirsch sells a similar product. Actually, I think Hirsch private labels... MORE

My neighbor has a 1500cc Rubber Bumper Midget which he bought new in Europe. It has twin SU carbs, and, I think, higher compression pistons and a hotter cam. All stock factory parts in the European cars. It runs lots stronger than the USA cars, and you should be able to get all of this stuff from one of the European parts sources, maybe even through Moss. Carbs, manifold and linkage might come from a salvage car in England. Seems like a good way to increase hp from a 1500 without having to reinvent the wheel. "tloutrec" 8324... MORE

John Here is what I did to my 1500. Bored it out .020. I understand that you can only go .030 on a 1500 so this would leave room for another bore later Standard pistons are dished and are 7.5 to 1, I went to flat top pistons making 9 to 1. Milled the head .080 should have gone to .100 though. I used a TSI 275-4 cam from TS imported Automotive. Of course all new rood and main bearings. Good idea to fit a new oil pump also. In addition to that installed a Weber DGV, headers and... MORE

Fairly easily done, depending on what you plan to use for an alternator. Adding a Lucas one is the easiest option as it requires the least modification, but it's not terribly powerful. Many others require fashioning brackets and modifying the mounting ear on the waterpump to alighn the pulleys. The one I like best that is not stock is this one: http://home.pacbell.net/davriker/Midget%20Web/Alternator%20Web/ Conversion.htm I'm not sure of the part avaiabilty in the UK though. I thought the splined ones were for whire-wheel axles only? If you've got steel wheels, you really need the one-piece steel wheel halfshafts. As depicted, along with the modification which makes standard halfshafts as strong as the expensive "unbreakable" ones, on my photo site; http://www.community.webshots.com/album/15283945PMbEoDsIKU HTH Growler "Grant Bowyer" 8213... Yes the scoring matters. If you install new halfshafts they will be marked by the scored face, the marks will become stress raisers, and you really dont want me to start ranting about stress raisers again, do you? I'm sure everyone on the list is heartily sick of my "stress raisers on halfshafts" rant.. ;-) Yes you can replace the bearing yourself if you have a bearing puller. Dont lose the shims between the bearings and the case, and dont forget which side they go on! Before you install your new bearing, put the diff in the freezer for... MORE

Well, the Mrs. and I went cruising the highways this past weekend. The weather was perfect and we just hit the road with the top down. Driving on the Interstate was a real pain around 65 mph as I still need to rebuild the front end and all of the rims are tweaked which require replacing. Keeping the speed down to 60 mph it was quite enjoyable as we headed out to Pahrump. Found out they have prostitute or cat houses there, but for some reason my wife would not let me 'stop in and check one out'. After... MORE

Hi All, I've just found a couple of Spridget workshop manuals in my local second hand bookshop - I bought one for Sprite II/Midget I and there is another that same and one for later models (can't remember if it was S III/M II or S IV/M III...). They're about 15 pounds but they don't do mail order, if anyone's interested Email me off list & I can go shopping & post it to you. Also, what oil do peole like to put in A series these days in the UK? Old fashioned or synthetic for hi performance units?... MORE

Hi Bree, Just a couple of things- Rust. You mentioned the doors, but the most important places to check are the sills (rockers, panels below the doors, whatever you call them in Texas) the base of the A-pillar (theh pillar the door hinges attach to) and the rear bulkhead, behind the seats, where the front part of the spring attaches. These are really awful spots to repair, and are also teh first places to start rusting. If you find rust in these places, RUN AWAY FROM THE CAR.... You can change an engine in a day. you can change... MORE

Hi there, Reluctantly I have decided that I must sell my beloved Poppy. Go for it I say. As you said the dashboard (we call them that too) on a mk2 is great and is a completely flat panel with 'crash pad' fixed on. There must be plenty of spares over there as they nevre rust. I don't see why a dash from an earlier car couldn't be persuaded to fit. Jeremy mk2 Sprite "Jeremy Cogman" 8159... MORE

Hi, "TT"- Depends upon the application. For the guy who's simply wants a good, stock motor to him around on a day by day basis, or the fellow who drives his once in a while on nice day "restoration", no. For the serious, street driven "tuned" application: don't leave home without it. Fr'instance, I am installing a Rivergate- built 1293 "tailored" for a Judson Super- charger. On today's readily available garbage octanes, heat is a big issue assuming you wish to run decent ignition advance to make installation of the blower worthwhile in terms of the extra power (torque)...
