kna 335 175/70 good all around choice. Not too large, not too small! Won't "overpower" stock suspension set-up but will give "improved" grip over standard 145X13 or 155X13, also fittable. Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 10049... MORE

I have a '75 Midget with a Stromberg 150CD carburetor. Spring has sprung but I haven't had the pleasure of driving it yet. I have fired it up several times and the fuel streams out of the bottom of the carb around the sealing plug. The sealing plug is worn and loose - but I assume that the float is stuck also stuck. I don't know how to "unstick" it. Any suggestions? This car has a mechanical fuel pump that I replaced last season. Could it be a problem of too much pressure on the fuel line? Thanks for... MORE

Well after surfing the internet for over a week, I finally found some new lower a-arms. British Racing Green has a pair and are now on the way. Thanks to everyone who responded to my looking for them. It sure seems strange that most of the places/sites I tried have them on back order. Apparently there is a run on them right now as everyone must be rebuilding their front ends at the same time. Well they should be in Monday and I will once again be driving the Midget by Wednesday. I have the rear leaf springs installed but can't find anyone who has the front lower a-arms in stock. Everyone seems to be waiting for back orders to arrive. A while back I asked if anyone had some GOOD lower a-arms for sale and got one or two replies. Unfortunately I lost the contacts. If anyone has some good lower a-arms for sale, please let me know as I am tired of having to borrow my friends van to get to work. Please reply if the a-arms you want to sell are GOOD and have no play in them.... MORE

If you turn the key back to "off", but leave it in the ignition, the steering should not lock until you remove the key. Definitely works on my 72, as well as numerous other cars. WRT fuel pump, if it is an SU type, it is designed to deliver much more fue l than the engine can use, so that the carburetors never run out of fuel even when the engine is running flat out. So the pump designed to operate when required, rather than continually. Not sure about other types of pump, though. Charlie '72 RWA (First ever... MORE

On my 78 Midget, there is a small electric fuel pump towards the rear of the car. I believe it is wired to the "ignition independent" fuse, as it operates as long as the key is turned to "accessory", whether the car is running or not. Here is my issue: To avoid fumes in the garage (my wifes' main issue with the car) I roll it in unpowered. To do that with steering control I need to have the key in, on accessory. The fuel pump is therefore running during this time (10-15 seconds), I assume attempting to feed... MORE

Hey, Bob- Just read in the Free Press that the Supreme Court validated the "individual's" right to bear arms under the 2nd Ammendment. How about that??!! Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 9900... MORE

Did this once on an old car =96 intentionally, I might add. Had a Citroen CX estate =96 the one with the trick suspension. Great car, bought from a dodgy dealer to move house with a year=92s tax and test. Pulled up to stop sign once and the headlight fell out. Needed a hammer to free the starter motor to make it work as the PO had removed the heatshield =96 you know the type of car I mean. Anyway, when it came to the time to tax and test it for another year, it was obvious that it... MORE

"....it's 80F"..............exactly. If your discs are dragging you will definitely notice the "drag" as the hotter they get, the hotter they get and the drag coefficient goes up accordingly.... and gas mileage goes to hell dramatcally. You sure this is not just normal heat for the "ambient" conditions? Drive the car and quickly jack up the front end after getting things nice and "hot" and spin a wheel. Any excessive drag will then become quite obvious, when compared to "spinning" the set-up when "cold". Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 9887... MORE

"Saved" by Mr. Archibald! Correctomundo, Paul! The book is called: "How To Keep Your Volkswagon Alive - A Manual of Step by Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot" by the infamous John Muir, a hippy-zen type of guy who obviously know his business, VW-wise. And how do I know this, Paul (you might well ask?) Because the back-up vehicle to my Vizard-tuned 1311 RWA '74 Spridget (which did the 5,000rpm sustained run between Stamford & Bridgeport, CT up Rt. 95...flawlessly, I might add!) was a (GEX 1600 powered) '67 VW Beetle. I have a new battery, and new cables for same. New plugs and coil, i hae not replaced the points , condenser, cap, rotor, yet. What happens, is , Riddingdown the road, running fine, suddenly Tach goes to zero, sometimes it jumps back up again, other times it just dies. At first i thought maybe fuel contamination or cloged fuel line or filter, but that doesnt seem to be the case. Seems like its electrical, but all other elcetrical systems work. Correct. Toe-in is the only adjustment. Caster is determined by the upward rise of the frame rails (and why they shouldn't be straightend). Camber can be adjusted in a couple of ways but requires either offset trunnion bushings or some modification to the shock position or shock arm length (via spherical bearing). Gerard "gerardchateau" 9776... MORE

You are correct, Jason Gross. Only toe-in was "adjustable". The other two parameters can change due to accident damage either through lateral or vertical over-"loading". Most good front end shops can set "toe" to compensate for some of this as long as they are not "out" beyond what an "adjustment" from standard "toe" can ameliorate. That's why I mentioned an "offset" upper bush (in a previous post) to bring negative camber of the passenger side "in line" with negative camber on the driver's side. This is exactly what I had to do to get my driver's side "matched" to... MORE

Tim, You don't have that much thread to accomplish your goal. You can remove your steering or steering column if your goal is to "re-center" the steering wheel. "gerardchateau" 9733... MORE

Olivier; There are two leaves which have 'brackets' attached, they hold the springpack together in the middle. I removed the leaf below each of the 'bracket' leaves, and also the 3rd leaf from the top. Beware that removing leaves will weaken your springs and introduce localised stress- the original springs seem to cope quite well, but I wouldnt try it on Moss replacement springs, they have a reputation of being of quite low quality. The 100% correct way to reduce your spring rate would be to have new springs made. Perhaps some of those fibreglass springs I keep hearing... MORE

I restored the steering wheel on my Sprite about ten years ago, and it has held up well. Here's what I did: First I scrubbed it with detergent and a stiff plastic-bristled brush. After it was dry I brushed on a coat of catalyzed polyester, the liquid portion in one of those fiberglass repair kits. This was followed by lots of sanding with wet 240 grit paper to get everything smooth, and care to maintain the profiles. Then two or three coats of Krylon primer, mostly sanded off with 400 grit wet paper, followed by two coats of Ace... MORE
